Story
Dimitri was able to be pulled into rescue on the day he was set to be euthanized. Dimitri is estimated to be around 6 years old, and is a whopping 92 lbs! Dimitri is a BIG boy, but is a giant love bug! He loves to go for a walk, followed by a nice long nap. He tends to use up his energy in quick bursts; either at the beginning of a walk, or a rousing game of chase in the back yard. After getting his energy out, he is happy to just hang out and relax, and has proven himself to be a great supervisor when you are doing yard work. He is very dog friendly with bigger dogs, and would love to have a dog friend in his forever home to hangout and nap with. However, Dimitri needs a very laid-back house mate, as he does have some changes to his spine that makes overactivity very painful for him. When getting his veterinary exam, it was found that Dimitri has extensive spondylosis down his entire neck and back. This means he has thinning cartilage between each of his vertebrae, which then puts painful pressure on his spinal cord, especially after strenuous play or activity. Dimitri’s condition is well-managed with pain medication, but he will likely need to be on these pain medications the rest of his life. Because of this, he does need a home with no cats or small animals, as Dimitri becomes hyper focused on them, and this overactivity is the kind that causes complications with his condition. Otherwise, Dimitri is a very well-mannered boy. He does not jump on people (or anything really, he needs a little help getting into taller vehicles because he can't jump), and is very gentle when taking treats and asking for affection. His foster mom has added some things to his diet to try and help his skin heal and his fur grow back in places where it is a little rough. He has already shown great improvement, and we expect he will only continue to feel better now that he has been neutered and had a much needed dental cleaning! Dimitri is crate trained and doesn't mind spending the night in his kennel (he goes in by himself!) as well as while his humans are out and about during the day. If you are interested in making Dimitri part of your forever family, you can apply to adopt him at www.lexpitcrew.org/adopt. We will be in touch as soon as possible! His adoption fee is $175.

We don't know much about her past, but we know that she may not have had the best of life prior to coming to Saved By Fate. She has come a long way after a leg amputation and lots of dental work, and has finally healed up from surgery. Tootsie is now looking for her own forever family. Tootsie is low-maintenance and mainly likes to lay around the house. She enjoys taking short walks (with breaks) and laying outside observing. She gets around just fine on leash, despite only having three legs. Some adorable qualities: Tootsie snores when she's sleeping and snorts and growls when she plays. She likes having all the attention on her at times because she's never experienced that before... but she's learning to share the spotlight with her foster siblings! In a forever home, Tootsie would get along best with a medium-high energy dogs. She's done great around puppies and other adult dogs. A dog who respects personal space when another dog asks for it would be best matched with Tootsie. Sadly, Tootsie cannot live with cats. She’s been around kids ages 9 and up and has done great with them. To be honest, she doesn’t care who she's around as long as she's getting attention or cuddles! Tootsie still has the occasional accident in her foster home, which she and her foster mom are working on, but she knows to use puppy pads and go outside whenever possible. Please don't hold that against her - it seems as though Tootsie was an outdoor-dog in her previous life. Because she is missing a front leg, she would do best in a home without stairs or hardwood floors. We think she'd do okay in a first-floor apartment. She is crate trained but isn't destructive if she's left in a room, confined with baby gates. Tootsie is a low-medium energy dog and doesn't cause any trouble. All she asks for is her dog bed and a couple of toys! Tootsie would love to have a family for the holidays, as this will be her first holiday season that she will get to enjoy. Her foster mom adores her but would love for Tootsie to have her own family to spoil her even more! We estimate that Tootsie is somewhere between 4-6 years old and weighs about 40 pounds. If you’re interested in adopting, please apply at savedbyfate.org and we’ll be in touch ASAP. Her adoption fee is FULLY SPONSORED!Tootsie has completed her vet care and can go to her forever home whenever. A meet with any approved adopter's current pets is required before starting the two-week adoption trial.

Story
Nala is the sweetest and cuddliest old girl (estimated to be about 6 y/o)! While she is playful at times, she likes to nap a lot and if someone is sitting on the couch watching TV, she will wiggle herself right into their lap. She was wonderful with the kiddos in her previous foster home, ages 8, 7, & 3, and was very attached to the youngest. She was also great with the other dogs in her foster home and ran like a crazy dog in the backyard. She also does fine with cats. Nala is house-trained and has never once had an accident. However, she is a kennel escape artist (normal wire crates) so she uses a heavy-duty kennel instead. Nala thrives in well-structured home environments with strong leadership, which is what we’re looking for in an adopter. She has skin allergies (currently being treated) and is on a specific diet (non-prescription). We are looking for a local-to-Lexington foster for Nala so she can attend our events and weekly training sessions. If you’re interested in fostering or adopting Nala, please apply at savedbyfate.org and we’ll be in touch ASAP! Her adoption fee is $200. A meet with any approved adopters current pets is required before starting the two week adoption trial. We are looking for an adopter who is willing to continue Nala’s professional training in order to set her up for success.
