Story
Meet Jovie! This 1-year old soft and sleek house panther beauty came to us from local animal control after being found as a stray. Jovie has a childlike innocence and sweet personality and like any great pit bull, is able to Bluetooth pair with you on an emotional level. She is a people-person and oozes sweetness and love from her entire being, craving attention and insisting on being near her people at all times. She is happiest when someone is petting her, loves to give kisses, and crawls right up for a full-frontal hug. If you are looking for an EXTREMELY affectionate dog who LOVES to be as close as humanly possible and will gaze longingly into your eyes searching for more connection, then Jovie is your girl! Jovie is appropriately energetic and playful for her young age, hops like a rabbit with excitement, and runs like a baby donkey (which is charming, yet gawky, all at the same time!). This shady lady has the SOFTEST espresso coat and the personality to match, and wags and wiggles when she meets new people…her entire body shakes and her butt wiggles nonstop with excitement. Jovie loves her canine foster brother (but says “nope” to cats), has sooo many dog friends, and has an energetic playstyle. She is great in the car and calm in the house. Pint-sized humans make her nervous, so a home without the little littles is a must. This sleek and beautiful house panther just needs a forever family to give her the life she deserves! Jovie’s top 3 priorities: 1. A family who wants a dog that loves attention and is eager to freely give (and receive) love and affection. 2. A family willing to put time into continuing basic training since Jovie jumps up to seek affection and gets excited on walks. 3. A family who wants to be close to their pup and allows them to be near…always, which includes snuggling in bed and on the couch for a binge-watching session of, well, anything.April 21, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
Meet Winter (Winnie for short)! This 2-year old petite and unique red-merle beauty came to us from local animal control after being found as a stray. You can’t miss Winnie’s icicle eyes. In fact, she is vision impaired and will need 1-2 visits to the ophthalmologist every year to continue to monitor the condition of her eyes. But despite her limited vision, Winnie navigates the world with an endearing curiosity, using her other senses, like that perfect pink little nose, to take it all in. ♥ Despite her polar beauty, Winter has the warmest heart! In fact, with Winnie, you won’t mind the snow, the frigid temperatures, or the short days and long nights…just grab a fluffy blanket to settle in for a cuddle sesh! Because Winnie uses her mouth to feel out her environment, older or no kids would be best for this special girl. Winter’s top 3 priorities: A family who is willing to create consistent spaces and routines to make Winnie feel safe and at home. A family who is patient and kind and will allow Winnie to take her time really learning how to “dog”, including snuggling and cuddling. A family who is willing to take on her ongoing medical care, which includes 1-2 exams at a veterinary ophthalmologist every single year. April 21, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
Meet Cashew! We’re NUTS about this 1-year old teeny tiny goober who came to us after being abandoned by his owner. At only 25-lb, Cashew is the size of a bite-sized Snickers bar or a buttered popcorn jellybean, but more than makes up for it in loveable personality. We could stare into his soulful puppy eyes for days. And those ears…next level! He is said to be a pittie and pug mix, but to us he’s just the perfect blend of pup. Ever watch a squirrel frantically hide its nuts? There’s something comically relatable about it. Just as we stash away our favorite treats, these little critters squirrel away theirs. It reminds us of our own quirks, doesn’t it? And Cashew has his own quirks. Coming into our rescue after being juggled into multiple homes (through no fault of his own), Cashew needs a laid-back family who is patient and willing to go slow to create a safe environment. But it will be worth the effort! Cashew is shy but acclimates quickly with consistency, LOVES to work his brain and bond with obedience training, and has sooo much love to give. He quickly learns commands and focusing his brain helps him reset when he’s feeling uncomfortable. It feels good when something so ordinary surprises us in the most delightful ways and Cashew is no exception. It’s like the universe wanted to add a fun twist to our nut mix…and here he is! Cashew has really come out of his shell as an appropriately curious and energetic 1-year old who wants to spend time with his humans and 4-legged foster siblings. Other dogs give him confidence and he’s also great with cats. And this sweet miniature man curls up like a baby deer right beside his humans to snuggle, fitting his neck into the crook of yours for a perfect fit. He’ll Cashew Later (see what we did there?). Due to his size and lack of history, older kids would be best for this peanut M&M. Cashew’s top 3 priorities: 1. A patient and loving family willing to give Cashew the time he needs to come out of his shell. 2. A family willing to continue obedience training to bond with Cashew and give him a productive way to work his brain. 3. A family who loves to snuggle and will happily cozy up to Cashew on his terms to make him feel safe and loved.April 21, 2024, 6:20 pm

Story
Otto was born on August 19th, 2020! He’s a high-energy boy, but that also comes with high anxiety. He gets stressed out easily and could use a home where he is the only pet and with older children (age ten and up). He also needs a place to run, so a fenced-in yard would be perfect for him to run and play with some tennis balls. It is with heavy hearts that we have to find a new home for our boy. We don't have the space for him to run and be as happy as he truly needs. We want him to be happy in his new home. Otto truly is a sweetheart, and we want to make sure he’s going to the best home possible.

Story
Meet Dalton! Dalton is an energetic pup who was nearly returned to the SPCA after just a few days with his owner, prior to our rescue stepping in. Dalton loves playing ball and tug and would probably do best in a home with an active owner who can help burn off some of his puppy energy! Dalton is up to date on his vaccines, neutered and micro-chipped. Story
Meet Menchie! Menchie is a sweet dog that had been starved prior to landing in the local high kill shelter. She was extremely ill with an upper respiratory but we got her back to full health once we saved her from near doom. Menchie loves belly rubs, any kind of attention, and has turned into quite a playful girl. She catches a look in your eye & immediately goes into play bow or scoots around with her but tucked. Menchie can be dog selective and seems to have a high prey drive so we don't bother testing her with cats. She can be relaxed in most situations yet playful when you rile her up. Menchie is spayed, up to-date on vaccines and microchipped. Her bucket list includes her forever family, so won't you consider making her wish come true? December 30, 2023, 12:05 am

Story
Meet Blitz! Blitz is a 5-year-old, 55 pound working dog. He's smart, food driven, and loves playing fetch. He sleeps through the night in his crate, is house trained, loves learning new tricks, and can be good with other dogs if they allow him to calmly greet them. Blitz would do best in an adult only home, with an owner who is active. He loves going on walks, runs, hikes and car rides. He can be wary of new people, and will need someone to continue to train him on confidence building. Blitz will walk in a heel when requested, he is a quick learner, super food motivated, and will LOVE his owners immensely. Update from foster Mom: With his people he is the BEST dog, and he's good with dogs if they aren't pushy. He's a quick learner, a cuddle bug, house trained, muzzle trained, e-collar trained. He LOVES hiking with me in the woods, has amazing recall, and loves playing fetch. I believe he would be the best dog on a farm, where he isn't forced to interact with strangers. I strongly believe that when he is off leash, he will choose to avoid strangers as opposed to confronting them. So why has this amazing already trained pup been with us so long? He doesn't do too well with strangers. We've gotten people interested, but seemingly they seem to ignore his "wary of new people" bit in his bio, and those who have applied want a friendly dog who is ok with meeting everyone. Are you someone who will allow Blitz to become comfortable with strangers slowly? Maybe an active outdoorsy introvert? Or okay with leaving your pup at home while you go out to be extroverted? Blitz is AMAZING. he just needs someone who understand he isn't too fond of people until he feels safe with them. This means not allowing others to approach him on walks and when out and about. NO trips to Home Depot or TJ Maxx for this guy. He only needs outings with his new parents! P.S. This means he will take time to warm up to you too! -- If you are interested in finding out more about Blitz, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: http://bit.ly/2JnZqK5 Blitz is being fostered in Worcester. The adoption fee is $250. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
Meet happy, playful and goofy Marshmallow! This 46 lb. bulldog boy is super affectionate, loves to meet people, play with toys and go on adventures. Marshmallow has been down a rough road but has kept up an amazing, silly personality. Marshmallow's owner was unable to care for him, and he arrived at WARL with a significant skin infection that was painful and required lots of veterinary care, sutures, and daily treatments. It was a great day for staff and volunteers when his fur started growing back and he was clearly recovering. Words can't really describe how exceptional his resilient and kind heart shines through. Marshmallow was a gem throughout his skin care routine, and actually looked forward to being cleaned daily with medical wipes, because he knew there were some nice treats waiting for him after each step. Marshmallow is admittedly working on a humping issue, so he may be able to live with another dog, but they would have to meet first as he comes on a bit strong! Same with kids, he needs just the right energy mix. An important thing to know about this pup is that he will require several veterinary visits per year to keep current on his prescribed allergy medication. English Bulldogs have complex medical needs, and his new home has to be able to ensure that he will be able to get the continued care that he needs. That is super important for him to continue, and his new home must be able to support him with this care. Marshmallow will pay it back with lots of affection, and plenty of happy snorting bulldog noises! If you think Marshmallow would be a good fit for your home, please head to our actual website worcesterarl.org and click on his picture to fill out the Dog Adoption Inquiry Form listed below to request a meet with him. That is the first step! All adoptions are by appointment, thank you.
