Story
Meet Blitz! Blitz is a 6-year-old, 55 pound working dog. He's smart, food driven, and loves playing fetch. He sleeps through the night in his crate, is house trained, loves learning new tricks, and can be good with other dogs if they allow him to calmly greet them. Blitz would do best in an adult only home, with an owner who is active. He loves going on walks, runs, hikes and car rides. He can be wary of new people, and will need someone to continue to train him on confidence building. Blitz will walk in a heel when requested, he is a quick learner, super food motivated, and will LOVE his owners immensely. Update from foster Mom: With his people, he is the BEST dog, and he's good with dogs if they aren't pushy. He's a quick learner, a cuddle bug, and house-trained. He LOVES hiking with me in the woods, has an amazing recall, and loves playing fetch. I believe he would be the best dog on a farm, where he isn't forced to interact with strangers. I strongly believe that when he is off leash, he will choose to avoid strangers as opposed to confronting them. So why has this amazing already trained pup been with us so long? He doesn't do too well with strangers. We've gotten people interested, but seemingly they seem to ignore his "wary of new people" bit in his bio, and those who have applied want a friendly dog who is ok with meeting everyone. Are you someone who will allow Blitz to become comfortable with strangers slowly? Maybe an active outdoorsy introvert? Or okay with leaving your pup at home while you go out to be extroverted? Blitz is AMAZING. He just needs someone who understands he isn't too fond of people until he feels safe with them. This means not allowing others to approach him on walks and when out and about. No trips to Home Depot or TJ Maxx for this guy. He only needs outings with his new parents! P.S. This means he will take time to warm up to you too! If you are interested in finding out more about Blitz, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO-A-67 Blitz is being fostered in Grafton. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs, we are only guessing at the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our dogs based on personality, not by breed label. We expect that all adopted dogs will enroll in a formal dog training class with their new owners. Obedience and training classes are an excellent way to learn more about your newly adopted dog, gain handling and training experience, and improve your relationship with your pet.

Story
**Kipper's adoption fee has been generously sponsored** Meet Kipper 💛 At 12 years young, this handsome senior is the perfect mix of calm and silly. His foster describes him as easygoing, adaptable, and happiest just being with you. He’s gentle, affectionate, and loves people and new friends - whether that means joining you on a walk, curling up for a couch snuggle, or keeping you company while you work. Kipper is housetrained, crate trained, and knows all the basics (sit, down, paw, place, off, rollover)—and he’s still learning! Whoever said old dogs can’t learn new tricks has clearly never met this boy. He travels well in the car and is always up for a daily woods walk, a neighborhood stroll, or a burst of zoomies in the yard. Stuffed toys are his favorite, and he’ll happily toss them around before settling in at your side. At night, Kipper is easygoing - he sleeps soundly through the night in his bed. Kipper is looking for a cat-free home, but he has enjoyed the company of other dogs and may do well with a well-matched sibling—or happily as a solo pet. He’s enjoyed walking with doggy pals in the past. Could Kipper be the senior sidekick you’ve been searching for? **Kipper's adoption fee has been generously sponsored**

Story
Odin is a 7 year old purebred boxer from a local breeder. We are looking for a home with no other dogs/cats - Odin does not get along with other dogs. Odin gets very excited when meeting new people, as most boxers do! But when he gets to know you he is very loving and cuddly! We have a toddler that he is very good with, but we do keep separated sometimes just because toddlers are very unpredictable and we don’t want Odin feeling uncomfortable. Odin would do very well in a house with older children. Odin also loves to play fetch with his balls and of course loves to go for walks! Odin is taking daily anxiety medication (Fluoxetine) which helps tremendously with his jumpiness. Odin has also been to formal training and does well with basic commands and on a leash

Story
Meet Jax! An eight-year-old Boxer mix who is ready to travel anywhere for his forever family! Weighing in at a solid 70 pounds, Jax might just think he's a lap dog with his affectionate, sloppy kisses and an unwavering desire to be close to his humans. Imagine this gentle giant curled at your feet, or better yet, joining in a lively game of keep-away with gleeful children. His joy is palpable, especially when he performs his signature "jumping jax" at the mere mention of a walk! Jax has a heart full of resilience and love, ready to bring warmth to any family. Though he prefers not to be left alone for long, he’s a perfect companion when around other dogs he knows or people—even if just in another room. He adores the great outdoors, and his enthusiasm shines during playdates and adventures at the local dog park. He’s sociable with dogs of all sizes, though his recall may need a little polish—Jax is ever curious about the wildlife he encounters! Living with Jax means embracing his high-energy spirit and managing his sensitive stomach with the right diet. An enclosed yard, constant companionship, and a routine filled with walks and playtime would ensure his days are as joyful as he is. Does your home have room for a big-hearted boxer mix with a love for life? Could you be the one to keep Jax's tail wagging happily ever after? If so, please contact us at adopt@joyfulpets.com, and let's chat about the joy Jax can bring into your life! Also, Jax is open to a long-distance adoption—love knows no distance when finding your perfect companion!

Story
Meet Hayley! A spirited ten-year-old Boxer/American Staffordshire Terrier mix currently living in Richmond, VA, whose essence is a warm embrace wrapped in a fawn coat with charming white accents. Hayley is a tender-hearted girl with an endless supply of love to give! At 35 pounds, she is the perfect medium-sized companion who believes that laps exist purely for her snuggles. She thrives on physical affection and will nuzzle your hands, curl into your side, or rest her head in your lap as if to say, “You’re my entire world.” Her daily joy comes from playing with stuffed toys and chasing after balls, followed by a cozy nap near her favorite human. She knows many commands including sit, lay down, stay, leave it, wait, stand, paw, and drop it. Her intelligence and eagerness to please make her training sessions filled with quiet pride and mutual trust. Though she hasn’t had formal obedience classes, she learns quickly with positive reinforcement and would love a guardian who continues nurturing her gentle mind. Hayley’s sensitive side means she seeks a calm, predictable home. Loud noises, crowded environments, or unexpected touches can make her anxious, and she may offer a warning yip or gentle nip to communicate when she feels overwhelmed. She has never bitten anyone but benefits deeply from guardians who respect her boundaries and understand her body language. She is especially tender about her paws and eats a lamb-based sensitive skin diet to keep her feeling comfortable and itch-free. When it comes to furry friends, Hayley prefers being the only pet. She has shown reactivity to unfamiliar dogs and is selective with cats, sometimes ignoring them, other times reacting based on their energy. Her ideal home would be a peaceful haven with no other animals, no young children, and guardians who cherish quiet walks, routine snuggles, and serene evenings watching the sun set together. Reach out today at adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn how this deeply affectionate girl could become your loyal companion and best friend!

Story
Meet Maya! A serene eight-and-a-half-year-old brindle-coated sweetheart currently living in Doylestown, PA, whose quiet presence is like a soft blanket on a chilly evening. With a gentle gaze and calm demeanor, Maya may take a moment to warm up but when she does, she’ll melt right into your lap and your heart. Weighing in at around 35 pounds, Maya is a medium-sized girl with a passive personality and a preference for the cozy comforts of indoor life. Her nickname? “Vampire dog” because she much prefers the nighttime for her outdoor adventures! She isn’t one to demand constant attention, but when she chooses to snuggle up beside you, it’s like being chosen by a tiny, fuzzy queen. Maya hasn’t shown interest in toys much, especially after realizing her companion Kalle can be a bit protective over them, but she finds her joy in soft bedding, calm environments, and being close to her trusted humans. She’s crate trained, house-trained, and takes everything at her own peaceful pace. Thunder makes her nervous and she prefers a slower approach when meeting new people. Quick movements can unsettle her, but patience and treats go a long way in helping her feel safe. Though Maya hasn’t had formal training, her quiet nature makes her a lovely presence in a calm home. She’s not a fan of cats and may be a bit shy around unfamiliar dogs, but she remains gentle and respectful. Maya has been Kalle’s quiet companion for years, and they’ve built a strong bond together. While Maya would be perfectly content in a loving home of her own, she would be especially happy if Kalle could join her in this next chapter. Are you ready to welcome this gentle little night owl into your heart? Contact adopt@joyfulpets.com to learn more about Maya!

Story
At first sight, you are sure to be smitten with this super sweet bulldog mix. His body is too cute for words! Virgil is about 5-years-old and weighs 53 pounds. He loves to get belly rubs, and show off his butt wiggle. He has been waiting awhile for his person and would love nothing better than to start his new life with you. Virgil has the traits of an American Bulldog, but somehow acts more like a water dog. He has an incredible love for water, especially when he can swim out to retrieve a thrown tennis ball or stick. It’s one game he never tires of. We like to say he’s a natural mer-man ‘wading’ for his forever family! Virgil is rather low maintenance. He is fulfilled by outdoor time, observing nature, and simply being with his people. He also enjoys walks and is good on the leash, though playing in water really makes his day. He has a funny way of turning meal time into fun time by batting around his Rolly Kong for kibble. Although he likes activity, he also has a lovely mellow side and enjoys quiet time. Among his many qualities, he’s also a dapper dude. Would you believe he loves being pampered and brushed? Virgil is very food-motivated and enjoys pleasing you. Since he is wary of strangers, his love of treats comes in very handy when introducing him to new people. If someone new approaches with a treat and lets him make the first move, voila! He’s a happy boy who will sit, lay down, or shake hands with you for more treats. Virgil has a sad background, but with the resilience of a champ he overcame abandonment. As a stray, he landed in a shelter with no ID tag, no microchip, very fearful, and left unclaimed. Because the staff gave him time and tender loving care, he started coming out of his shell. Soon after, Virgil attended a basic obedience class and then transitioned to a foster home where he is learning what a good, safe home is all about. Virgil now has a bouncy puppy-like strut and each day more and more of his personality comes through! He works with his foster mother daily. She reinforces all he learned in training and gives him new challenges as well. Virgil needs an adopter to continue providing direction and confidence-building activities. We know Virgil will thrive in a stable forever home with an experienced person or family who will help him recognize how special he really is. In this type of environment, he is such an easy dog. He just needs time to know things are A-OK so he won’t be fearful and anxious. With your gentle time and patience, you will earn his trust. Fortunately, Virgil provides all the companionship you’ll ever need. He doesn’t do well with other dogs, or cats, but he would be ok with older kids with dog experience. Since he alerts you to noise, he is not good for apartment or condo/townhouse living or tight neighborhoods. Ideal perks are a fenced yard and water access! Please complete an adoption application at https://www.brokentailrescue.org/adopt/ For serious inquiries, email maryloumaria@yahoo.com Thank you! Virgil is being fostered in Gloucester, MA. The adoption fee is $500. Like Broken Tail Rescue on Facebook!. Follow Broken Tail Rescue on Instagram! Story
Meet Coco — a 57-pound Pitbull mix beauty who’s equal parts sweetheart, snugglebug, and self-appointed bodyguard of love. 💗 Coco is very sweet, very smart, and very loyal — but she’s also got a bit of a resource-guarding streak and takes her “protect my people, snacks, toys, and space” duties seriously. She’s looking for an experienced dog owner who can help her feel safe, decompress, and channel her energy in all the right ways. Coco’s one of those dogs who wants her favorite humans close by — ideally the kind who work from home and don’t mind sharing their bed, couch, or general existence with a 57-pound shadow. She adores people she trusts and will happily curl up with you for belly rubs, naps, and snacks — basically, the holy trinity of dog happiness. She’s good with cats — as long as they’re independent types who won’t try to steal her bed or her spotlight. Coco’s all about peaceful coexistence, not sharing her throne. 👑 If you’ve got a calm, kid-free home, some dog experience, and room in your heart (and on your couch) for one fabulous, loyal lady — Coco’s ready to be your devoted best friend. 🐾💕 If you are interested in finding out more about Coco, please fill out an adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your browser: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/BRO/Dog Coco is being fostered in West Roxbury, MA.
