Story
NAME- Girlie (also responds to Girl). This is a new name for her. We do not know her original name.
***Girlie has been already vetted and health checked in Aug 2025. Paperwork can be provided***
Girlie’s story- Girlie was sighted multiple times by my partner while walking our dog on our road during the early morning hours for a few days straight in July 2025. I managed to lure her towards me at 645am weds July 23rd 2025 with some treats by sitting in the road and got a slip leash over her head.
She had a dozen ticks of various sizes all in both her ears and around her neck and head but not many fleas thankfully. She was not under weight but was very dirty, hungry and thirsty. Her paw pads were raw, peeling and blistered from walking or standing on hot pavement. She has elbow sores from laying on a hard surface. She had very bad coat and excessive shedding.
Girlie was found with no collar or microchip but there was a dent in the fur around her neck suggesting she may have had one on recently. My partner and I completed an online report for found lost dogs with our county’s website. We also posted her on neighbors app and multiple facebook lost and found pages including pawboost in hopes to find her family. No one ever claimed her or reported her missing. We believe she was dumped because we live on a very long dead end road with lots of trails and woods. People have done this previously.
Girlie since day 1 has shown to be consistent behaviorally. She leans into your heart and chest with her head and seeks gentle affection in hopes for your loyalty.
FAVORITE SONG- “Big Girls Don’t Cry” by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
AGE- vet approximated 4-5 years old based on the uneven ware of her teeth. We deemed her half way and figure she is a valentine’s day puppy as her b-day. (feb 2021)
BREED- DNA test results: 34% American Staffordshire Terrier, 30% American Pit Bull Terrier, 22% Staffordshire Bull Terrier and 14% Miniature Bull Terrier. 100% Terrier
WEIGHT- 62lbs as of Aug 2025
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION- Tan fur (darker side), short hair, flopped ears, long tail, shorter nose, black eye rings (looks like Cleopatra eye liner), light brown eyes, teets show on underbelly suggesting she had a prior litter years ago (as per vet observation), raised scar tissue bump on lower back spine area (no concern as per vet).
SPAY- prepaid appointment for Oct 22nd 2025 with mocrochip.
RABIES- yes, as of Aug 2025
HEART WORM- negative, recheck in 6months as of Aug 2025 per vet.
Grooming
-It took a few long baths and soaks but she if free from ticks and fleas, paws are healed and sores continue to be soothed daily. I personally did all of her initial care.
- Girlie has allowed me to lift her in and out of bath tubs indoor and outdoor.
- She also did well with a nail trim while distracted with treats by another person and lots of praise
- Tolerates basic routine handling with no known touch sensitivities.
- If anything, her ears were sore to the touch a while from healing after the tick removal.
Socialization info
- Very sweet, shy and gentle meeting new people. Has not yet been tested around any age child yet.
- Can be more nervous or cautious with some people but slow and calm interactions make her feel better.
- Has witness my cats a handful of times at a distance and up close around 5ft away. She seems nervous suggesting shes never been around cats before. She does not whine or bark and will take a treat as long as she is not overwhelmed by them.
-No interactions with any other animals currently known.
- Girlie loves our dog and seems to be interested in other dogs who are very friendly, quiet, calm, and respectful.
- May prefer smaller dogs
Trainability
- Girlie is highly food and stuffy toy motivated.
- She does not seem to know any basic obedience however, she is getting the hang of “Sit” on cue with a hand signal and is expanding her mind and problem solving skills with enrichment like puzzle balls.
- She also seems to enjoy an enthusiastic recall game of tag in the back yard.
Activities
- Girlie has moderate energy.
-Girlie loves her walks with her escape proof harness. Handler must have good reflexes, skills and strength.
- loves puzzles and enrichment.
- Enjoys edible and recreational chews.
- Can get zoomies in backyard.
**watch fence line*** may try to escape.
Emotional Behavior
*** She does not enjoy other dogs barking. Whether at a distance or within sight she whines and seems anxious or panicked and tries to flee/escape while pacing briskly and looks to go back inside the house. Girlie is the perfect example of the pitty yowls (cries). If you know, you know.***
(We believe this all started when both our neighbors dogs on all 3 sides of our backyard fences have barked at her very dramatically for several weeks and it has spooked her into expecting it every time she goes out so shes on alert and gets emotional and anxious.)
- Girlie is currently enjoying a few behavior modification techniques. They involve a consistent predicable routine of enrichment/exercise, food therapy and supplements, and inclusion (oppose to isolation) with great success and progress.
-Once bonded, Girlie may show signs of isolation distress (like whining or yowling) but, with the above interventions they are short lived as she is getting better coping with absence.
- Girlie is not destructful. She has never chewed anything inappropriate that is fixed to the house.
- She loves anything stuffed. Including pillows and children stuffed animals.
House/crate Training
-Girlie is potty trained. Shes never had an accident in the house. One separate situation caused a stress tinkle in the moment but after that, she has been 100%.
- She likes to go pee 3 little times or more instead of 1 or 2 larger pees. She like to mark her territory.
- Girlie poops regularly at least once a day but will hold her pee for several hours overnight from 8pm-6am.
-She will go into a XL crate with the toss of a treat but does not like to be nudged in or guided in with any touching. She will just back up quickly and hesitate to go towards the crate again.
-Girlie prefers to eat breakfast before her morning potty.
Feeding
- She tolerates all kinds of diets and proteins. Never any stomach upsets, loose stools or vomiting.
- Girlie enjoys foods like high quality human grade baked dry food, mixers, toppers, freeze-dried, dehydrated, gently cooked, homemade, raw and frozen goodies.
- She is not picky.
- Her favorite is eggs and sardines.
- if you want to know how and what we have been feeding her, please let me know and I’m happy to share.
- Side note, we noticed the more fresh food we feed her the more satiated, happier and calmer she is and with smaller poops.
-Girlie is on a few joint support supplements. She has shown some mild visible discomfort when squatting to poop and hesitates jumping up on furniture. She is much better now and has good healthy energy.
- Has a good thirst drive. We add decaf green tea or bone broth to her meals too. Will drink plenty fresh filtered water.
Other
- Girlie needs assistance jumping in and out of higher vehicles.
- Going to the vet made her very nervous and whiny with the other dogs around but once she was in a room she was very sweet with the doctor.
- Was good in the car while traveling 45mins to the vet.
- Tolerates seat belt attachment.
- No medical concerns or medications.
- Girlie’s last heat cycle started late Aug 2025- mid Sept 2025
***Girlie is very well loved by my partner and I. If for any reason you and your family are no longer interested in giving Girlie her furever home for any reason, we will gladly take her back into foster in our home and will travel for her.
***In addition, we would love to continue to be in contact with Girlie’s new family each month via text, call and/or social media platforms like facebook and snapchat. I am happy to give any advice, support and recommendations for anything she may need life long regarding her training, health, behavior, and well being.
If rehomed locally to me, I will also help with in person training and dog sitting when needed.
