Story
Pablo is a cute one-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull Terrier who was brought to the HSOV on February 21, 2025 after he was found on the 400 block of Franklin Street in Marietta Ohio. Pablo was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This handsome guy has a snow white short smooth coat with a brown patch on his lower back, a long brown/white tail, and an adorable chubby face with beautiful mesmerizing eyes, a liver-colored nose, and large super-sized ears which he holds semi-erect when he chooses to do so. Pablo has a sweet disposition and a friendly, outgoing personality. He loves attention from everyone who has meet him. Pablo weighs 47 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Pablo was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Surprisingly nobody called or came looking for this little man. Pablo was neutered on March 4, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Pablo went home with a foster family on March 8, 2025, and he became available for adoption on June 12, 2025. Updated information about Pablo from his foster family: "Pablo needs to go to a home without a male dog preferably or at least one who isn’t already THE BOSS for sure. Females he’s perfect with, and he is the BEST BOY!! He is a handful yes, but he’s just a puppy still and he does listen and I’ve been working with him. He has some separation anxiety from his previous “situation”. Pablo is house trained and is crate trained .. but definitely sleeps with me every night. THE ONLY reason I’m choosing to adopt him out is because of the fact he and Chevy aren’t ever gonna be homeboys. He’s the biggest sweetheart of all time. Just needs to be THE MAN of the house to speak." Pablo came back to HSOV on July 30, 2025 after an altercation with another male dog in the household, and his foster family made the decision that Pablo would be more suited for a home without any male dogs or have contact with them. It was touching to see Pablo quickly jump up on the couch in the shelter lobby when he returned and to snuggle up with HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers. Pablo will be adjusting to shelter life and will soon be looking for the perfect home. Pablo went home with a foster family on September 15, 2025.

Story
Steven is a handsome 4-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 6, 2024 by a Good Samaritan who found him on Echo Valley Road in the Waterford Ohio area. Steven was accompanied by his best friend Arlo (a 3-year old male Yellow Labrador Retriever) who is also in our shelter. Neither of these boys were wearing a collar, and they were not microchipped. Steven has a chocolate brown-and-white coat, a long tail, and an adorable chubby face with dark brown eyes, a brown patch around his right eye, a black button nose, and semi-erect ears. Steven has the cutest wrinkles on his chubby face which gives him the sweetest appearance. Steven and Arlo are continuing to enjoy their own 'bachelor's pad' in our Safe Haven Building where they have the freedom of not being in a kennel. Neither Steven nor Arlo accepts cats into their circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them. Steven is a muscular boy who weighs 68 lbs. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Steven and Arlo were held for three days so that their family would have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Sadly, nobody called or came looking for this magnificent pair of best friends. Update: Steven was neutered on September 24, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine. Thanks to HSOV Volunteer Jennie Payton Sherrard for spending time with Steven for these updated photos late in the afternoon on September 28, 2025. Steven's personality has blossomed over the past several months, and he was a joy to photograph with Jennie by his side. Steven was fascinated with the paparazzi and was a real 'ham' for the camera. Since Steven and Arlo are very bonded with each other, Jennie and HSOV Volunteer Angel Grosklos teamed up to walk both boys from their 'apartment' in the Safe Haven Building so that they did not have to be separated. Steven and Arlo are both neutered, so they could leave our shelter immediately (together of course) with an approved HSOV foster/adoption application.

These updated photos were taken on February 23, 2025 when HSOV Manager Tracy Lynn accompanied him for some out-of-cage/kennel time in the lobby of our shelter. Pablo was 'over the moon' happy since he loves attention and playtime. Pablo was more interested in fun-and-games than posing for boring still-life photos, so most of his pictures were action shots (smile). Nader is a beautiful 4-year old female American Staffordshire Terirer who was brought to the HSOV on September 9, 2024 after she was found on Franklin Street in Marietta Ohio. Nader was wearing a collar but there was neither an id tag nor a dog license tag on her collar .. And she was not microchipped. Nader has a sleek auburn/brown short smooth coat with white marking on her neck/check, a long thin tail, and an adorable chubby Staffordshire face with amber-colored eyes, a red/liver-colored nose, and semi-erect ears. This sweet girl has a friendly disposition and loves attention. Nader enjoyed soft plush stuffed toys during her first day in our shelter even though she plays rough with them and they don't survive very long. These photos of Nader were taken late in the afternoon on September 9, 2024 when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash accompanied Nader for outdoor glamour pictures. Nader ran a few laps around Jared to show off her 'body beautiful' then decided needed some more attention from Jared .. And quickly rewarded him with some nice doggy kisses. Nader is a full-figured girl who currently weighs 76.2 lbs. She walked fairly well on a leash for Jared. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Nader will be held for three days so that her family will have an opportunity to reclaim her with proof of ownership. We hope that her family (or someone will recognize her and help us reunited Nader with her people). She is very sad being in an unfamiliar place and cries for attention when she is left alone. Nader went home with a foster family on July 25, 2025 who plans to adopt her after she is spayed. Nader was returned to HSOV on July 30, 2025 after there was a dispute between Nader and a small puppy in the foster family's home over a toy ball. Nader was 'resource guarding' what she felt was her toy. Update: Nader was taken to a veterinarian hospital on September 24, 2025 for her spay procedure, and it was determined that she was already spayed. Nader was given rabies vaccine that day.

Beefcake is a magnificent 3-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier/Pit Bull Terrier mix who was picked up in Marietta Ohio by a Washington County Ohio Deputy Sheriff and brought to the HSOV on July 3, 2025. Beefcake was not wearing a collar, and he was not microchipped. This handsome guy has a beautiful beige-and-white coat, white paws, a long tail, and an adorable symmetrically-marked chubby face with pale brown eyes, a liver-colored nose, and short floppy ears. Beefcake has the sweetest, most lovable personality! These pictures were taken on the afternoon of July 13th when HSOV Volunteer Jennie Sherrard accompanied Beefcake for his outdoor photo session. Beefcake loved attention from Jennie and turned on the charm. He seemed a little too interested in making the acquaintance of a few of our outdoor shelter mascot kitties that he saw in the distance. Beefcake weighs 70 lbs and is strong on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Beefcake was held for the mandatory three-day stray hold so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Beefcake's owner was identified but, sadly, he decided not to reclaim him .. So Beefcake is looking for a new home. He will be neutered before he is officially adopted. Beefcake could be fostered or fostered-to-adopt with an approved HSOV Foster/Adoption Application while he is awaiting his neuter procedure.

Neither Steven nor Arlo accepts cats into their circle of friends and cannot be trusted to be nice to them. Steven is a muscular boy who weighs 68 lbs. These photos were taken on December 7th 'through the looking glass' (the panes of glass on the door to the boys' apartment) since Steven wasn't quite ready to walk on a leash for outdoor photos. One (or both) of the boys had been licking the glass or putting their paws on the panes, so several of their photos are blurry for that reason (smile). In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Steven and Arlo will be held for three days so that their family will have an opportunity to reclaim them with proof of ownership. Update: Steven was neutered on September 24, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine.

Story
Sophie is a beautiful 2-year old female Boxer mix who was brought to the HSOV on October 7, 2025 by a Marietta Ohio City Police Officer who had picked her up in the 400 block on Eighth Street in Marietta Ohio. Sophie was wearing a collar but there was neither an id tag or license tag on her collar .. And she was not microchipped. Sophie has a dark brown/brindle-and-white short smooth coat, a long tail, and an adorable face with dark brown eyes, a splash of white on her muzzle, a narrow white stripe on her forehead, and large floppy ears. This little sweetheart has a friendly disposition and an affectionate personality. Sophie weighs 58 lbs and walks fairly well on a leash. These photos were taken late in the afternoon on October 18th when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Emily Beaver accompanied Sophie for outdoor glamour pictures. The sky was beginning to cloud over in anticipation of an impending rain storm, so the lighting was not conducive to showing off the true color of Sophie's gorgeous brindle coat .. We will take more flattering photos of Sophie if she is not reclaimed, but we really really hope that Sophie's family will see her photos on our Facebook pages and know that she is safely in our shelter. Sophie misses her very own house/family and would love to go back home again. Sophie was spayed on December 15, 2025 and was also given rabies vaccine.

This good-looking guy has a snow white coat, a patch of brown at the base of his long tail, and a beautiful face with soulful brown eyes, a black button nose on his cute long muzzle, and extra-large floppy ears. Bolt has a super sweet disposition and happy, outgoing 'Type A' personality. Bolt adored being the center of attention when we took preliminary photos in the shelter lobby shortly after his arrival. This little sweetheart was a pushover for attention when HSOV Executive Director Amy Rogers spent time with him (and HSOV Kennel Tech Rachel Elizabeth offered him 'good boy' treats). Bolt appeared to have been accustomed to spending leisure time on a comfy sofa since he was quick to take the initiative to sit on HSOV Volunteer Wendy Jo Irvin's lap. Bolt is a wanna-be lap dog. Bolt weighs 31.8 lbs and could easily gain a few pounds to fill out his slim trim physique. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Bolt will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Note: We've learned that Bolt is NOT good with cats. Bolt went home with a foster family on October 22, 2024 who plans to adopt him after he is neutered. Bolt was neutered by the foster family's veterinarian, and he was officially adopted by his foster family on November 19, 2024. Update: Bolt was picked up near the Washington Street Bridge in Marietta Ohio on April 11, 2025 by the Marietta Police Department and brought to HSOV. Fortunately Bolt had a microchip, and we were able to contact his adopted family and he was placed on a 14-day hold for them. Sadly, his family decided to surrender him back to our shelter instead of reclaiming him .. So Bolt is looking for a new family who will love/cherish him forever and ever. He is such a good boy!! Bolt weighed 52 lbs when he entered the shelter on April 11, 2025. Bolt went home with a foster family on May 27, 2025 who plans to adopt him if all goes well. Unfortunately Bolt was returned by his foster family on May 28th 2025. Update: Bolt went home with a foster family on July 27, 2025 who offered him the hospitality of a real home environment while he waits for his forever home (so that he doesn't have to be in a shelter kennel). Bolt is still available for adoption. If you would like to meet Bolt, please complete/submit an HSOV adoption application so that we may arrange a meet-and-greet with your family.
We'll also keep you updated on Henry (Neutered)'s adoption status with email updates.

Story
Henry is a handsome 1-1/2 year old male Boxer/Terrier mix who was surrendered by his family on October 10, 2025. Henry was dearly loved by the family, but he had developed a bad habit of nipping/snapping at their children (and is the reason he was returned ..So we will a bit of Henry's background history with his current Petfinder/Facebook/Adoptapet listing: Henry made his original debut in our shelter when he was brought to the HSOV on July 1, 2024. Henry was an adorable 10-week old puppy at that time. Since there wasn't any location provided as to where he was found, it was unclear whether he was a stray or possibly an owner surrender. Henry had a brown short smooth coat, a long tail, and a cute puppy face with dark brown eyes, black shading on his chubby muzzle, and short floppy ears. Henry weighed 7.5 lbs on July 4th when he scampered across the floor scales. This little playboy had a happy, outgoing personality and loved attention more than anything else in the world. Henry had typical puppy behavior and was always looking for mischief to get into during the chewing stage of his young life. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Henry was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since nobody called or came looking for this baby boy, Henry went home with a foster family on July 24, 2024 who planned to adopt him after he was neutered (a requirement for HSOV adoptions to be finalized). Henry was neutered on October 1, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. He was adopted by his foster family later that afternoon. Henry enjoyed one-year+ in his adoptive home and was very much loved by the family. But when Henry began nipping/snapping at the children, they made the difficult decision to return him so that he could find a more appropriate home. These updated photos of Henry were taken on October 11th 2025 when HSOV Volunteer Hannah MClain and HSOV Shelter Manager Tracy Lynn accompanied him for outdoor pictures. Henry has matured into a magnificent young man. He has a stunning tan short smooth coat, a long tail, and a beautiful chubby Boxer/Terrier face with brown 'teddy bear' eyes, a black button nose, and short semi-erect ears. Henry had not yet stepped on the scales for a weigh-in when these photos were taken, but an estimate would be that he weighs 60 lbs or so. Henry is very strong on a leash. He quickly obeyed the 'sit' command for several of his photos. Henry would likely benefit from some obedience/training classes and perhaps an experienced 'alpha' person to help him reach his full potential. Henry is a good dog who needs a little assistance to become the best dog (smile).
