Story
CYBER came to the Harrison County Dog Pound in September as a scrawny owner surrender. He was so hungry, we thought he might lick the shine off his metal food bowl. He has gained weight and is now around a healthy 50 lbs. CYBER has been fully vaccinated and neutered and he’s ready, willing, and able to join a forever family. He’s extremely treat motivated and if you offered him enough treats, he might even rob a bank if you asked him. He wouldn’t even need a get away car because this boy can move it. He runs and he runs fast. He almost hops while he’s running and we get lots of laughs watching him. CYBER is a year old and still very much a puppy. He likes to carry things in his mouth and play with squeaky toys. He’s good with most other dogs, but we think CYBER would do better as an only dog because when he is done playing with other dogs, he is done and doesn't want another dog in his face. Due to his high energy level, he’d be better off with a family with older kids. If cats interest you, we guarantee they interest CYBER more. He becomes a barking fool when he’s near one and we’re not sure if it’s because he wants a feline friend or a feline meal. We would have asked him but he wouldn’t quiet down long enough to get a word in so no cats for CYBER. We were told CYBER is a Great Dane/Pittie mix. He’s thin boned like a Dane, but nowhere close in size. CYBER took part in the Cell Dog Training program at the local prison where he learned manners and basic obedience commands and he came back a new dog. He is much calmer and listens. He’d love a fenced in yard because he likes to run or an active family. He will fetch a ball and bring it back. If there’s 2 of you throwing a ball to him, he will alternate who he brings it to so no one feels like a 3rd wheel. He’s very thoughtful and inclusive that way. He will make an excellent watch dog because at times, he hears things no one else does and his bark will change to let you know someone uninvited might be in a yard a block away. Seriously, he is a loyal protector and a lady’s man but he needs a strong pack leader with a deep voice to let him know he’s not in charge and to keep up with his training. Story
Slater is a fun loving goofy dog. He is just over 1 year old. He has puppy energy and needs lots of interaction. He wants interaction with other dogs. He is a chewer and needs good outlets for that. Looking to rehome in a situation with more outlets for attention and physical activity outside. He is crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, knows basic commands. He needs improvement in good manners in meeting people and manners in the house. He likes kids but is clumsy and strong and needs training in how to interact (same with smaller dogs).

**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Scout. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in the Homeworth area and I was brought into the pound. I have been a very good boy here at the pound. I am smart, super trainable and super sweet and loving. I have been good with the other dogs that I've met here at the pound and I like to play. I am a good boy in my kennel and I appear to have been a house dog. If you're looking for a sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.
