**WE ARE CURRENTLY DOING ADOPTIONS BY APPOINTMENT ONLY. YOU MUST CALL TO SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN ADOPTING. PLEASE LEAVE US A VOICEMAIL IF YOU ARE UNABLE TO REACH US. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there! My name is Buck. I'll be 3 years old on March 29th. I weigh about 75 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound on 12/27/2024, which means I've now been here for over a year. I am really hoping to find a loving family to join soon! I once lived on a farm with lots of room to run, but then we moved to the city and when I got my outside time, I had to go in a kennel. I didn't like that very much, so I found ways to escape so I could run (I was intact, so that didn't help). I do well in the kennels and play yards here at the pound and do not try to get out of them. I was likely escaping and running at large because of females in heat. I am a very sweet boy, but I am big, strong and energetic. I would do best with a bully breed savvy owner that is assertive and not afraid of my size. I am very smart and I listen very well if I know you're not going to have my shenanigans. I can walk perfectly well on a lease, but will definitely drag you all around if you let me. When I first came into the pound, I did great with other dogs. The longer I've been here, the more reactive I've gotten to the other dogs. Although I would probably do fine in a home with other dogs once I've acclimated, I haven't done well on meet and greets here at the pound recently, so at this time, I would likely do best as the only pet. I was a house dog before making my way into the pound and I am said to be housebroken. I do a good job of keeping my kennel clean here at the pound. If you're looking for a big, sweet dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $152. We accept cash, check or credit/ debit cards for adoption fees. If you pay using a credit or debit card, a convenience fee of 2.39% will also be applied. If paying by check, you will need 2. One Check will be for the dog license, and one will be for your dog's adoption fee, which includes heartworm testing (for dogs 6 months of age old and older), parvo/distemper vaccine, rabies vaccine, bordetella vaccine, 3 days of panacur de-wormer, spay or neuter surgery, microchip, and a current Ohio dog license. We DO offer foster to adopt. (We will NOT accept cash for foster to adopt). We highly recommend you do a foster to adopt with your new dog if you are not 100% sure your new dog is going to work out in your home. Foster to adopt gives you a couple of weeks with the dog to make sure they are a good fit with your family before your payment is processed and the adoption is finalized. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. If the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills, in addition to their adoption fee if possible so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. We try our absolute hardest to never have to euthanize for space and have not had to do so for many years thanks to the ongoing support from the public and high adoption rates. Please remember; the adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm. Saturday, Sunday and holidays: 8 am - 12 pm. Adoptions are always welcome any day of the week/ weekend and on holidays. We are here everyday to care for the dogs and the best way to make our day is to see our dogs go to loving families. There is nobody in the office on Saturday, Sunday or holidays, so therefore, we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. We are only staffed to take care of the dogs and do adoptions over the weekends/ on holidays. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable. THANK YOU FOR YOUR PATIENCE AND UNDERSTANDING.- CCDP STAFF** Hi there. My name is Taco. I'm about 2 years old and I weigh about 61 lbs. I was found as a stray in the East Palestine area and I was brought into the pound. I can be a little on the timid side when I am around new people or in new situations, but once I get a chance to relax and get to know you, I am very sweet and affectionate. I do a great job of keeping my kennel clean at night and I appear to be at least mostly housebroken. I get along well with most other dogs. I seemed to be very unsocialized with other dogs when I first arrived, but I am doing better with them now that I am getting used to being around them. I'm even learning how to play! Story
Mabel has had a rough life. At 5 years of age she was brought to the Humane Society of St Thomas as a stray. She had horrible mange, extremely malnourished, green discharge coming out of her eyes, heartworm positive and heavily pregnant. Mabel had to be spayed immediately, even though she was full term pregnancy because of her poor health. Mabel needed our help! Mabel is so very sweet and people and kid friendly. She is reactive to cats and is dog selective when she encounters other dogs as she was crated so much of the time in St Thomas due to her health. Since arriving at Pet Search, her skin is looking better, she has started her heartworm treatment (which is fully covered with her adoption fee) and she just wants to be held, kissed and snuggled! Mabel loves to walk and is now realizing what "play means! She is around 40 pounds, so she is very manageable in size and weight to pick up., since she lives to sit on your lap! This very sweet girl needs a special person who will appreciate and cherish the love she has to share Applications can be found at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/PAPS/Dog KL#03301 Washington PA 15301

Story
His photos do not do him justice. He looks like a sad sack when in reality, Socks is a delightful, friendly boy. Socks - no doubt so named for his paws, came in as a stray from animal control. He was found by a senior couple who kept him for about a week and found him to be housebroken and friendly. He is excited about meeting new people and taking them for a walk. He currently weighs around 70 lbs. and is estimated to be around 5 years old. He also seems to be OK with some of the other dogs but a meet and greet would be arranged if there was interest in adding Socks to a home with another dog. His temporary foster parents came to visit him and hope that others will see what a sweetheart he is. More handsome in person than the camera reveals, this hunk is waiting to meet you.

Story
Meet Layla!Through no fault of her own, Layla found herself at the shelter after being surrendered because of her habit of chewing…well…pretty much anything she could get her paws on. Shoes, toys, maybe a suspicious-looking pillow or two — Layla has definitely been known to redecorate! But here’s the thing about Layla: she’s so much more than that one little quirk. During her time at the shelter, she has shown everyone what a wonderful dog she truly is. Layla has been fantastic around other dogs and has even done well around cats, proving that she can be a great companion in a multi-pet household. She’s affectionate, friendly, and clearly just wants a place where she belongs.Like many dogs, Layla may simply need a little structure, plenty of appropriate toys, and some guidance to help channel her chewing into the right things. With patience, love, and maybe a good stash of durable chew toys, Layla has all the potential to thrive in a home again.Layla deserves a second chance — a family willing to see the sweet, loving dog behind the habit and give her the fresh start she’s been waiting for. If you’re looking for a loyal companion and are ready to help Layla write her next chapter, she’s ready to meet you. 💛🐶Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!ADOPTION APPLICATION:All adoption applications are completed at the shelter unless otherwise noted.FOSTER APPLICATION:Want to be a hero for a homeless animal in need? Story
Meet Goober — and yes, the name fits perfectly. This all-white boxer is a walking cartoon character with an underbite so legendary it steals the spotlight everywhere he goes. He’s dorky, lovable, and completely unaware of his own… creative interpretations of bathroom etiquette.Let’s be honest: Goober currently has absolutely no idea where he should be peeing. Structure? Routine? Boundaries? He’s heard of them. Probably. Maybe. But with consistency and guidance, this goofy guy has all the potential to learn the ropes. What he lacks in polish, he makes up for in personality. Goober is playful, silly, and full of that classic boxer charm. He doesn’t mean to be chaos — he just needs someone willing to show him how to channel it.Goober’s Ideal Home:A patient, structured household that’s ready to commit to training and routine. Someone with a sense of humor is a must — because living with Goober will absolutely keep you entertained. If you’ve been looking for a dog who’s 50% sweetheart, 50% comedic relief, and 100% in need of a life coach, Goober is ready to enroll in your household immediately. 🐶✨Give us a call at (740) 314-5583 for more information!ADOPTION APPLICATION:All adoption applications are completed at the shelter unless otherwise noted.FOSTER APPLICATION:Want to be a hero for a homeless animal in need?
