Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Hi, my name is Marvel. I was in a county shelter in the south for quite a while until something called a hurricane came through. Then after many days of travel, I am at this beautiful place looking for my forever home. I am a very active boy who loves attention. I love to run and run. Toys are my absolute favorite thing in the world! I'm very smart and catch on to new things quickly. I'm learning basic commands and sit like a perfect gentleman while waiting for my meals.  I make human friends very easily. I seem to get along with most dogs, and want to meet any dogs in your home, just to make sure we'll be friends. I'm just not a fan of cats, so none of those for me. I'm super energetic, and prefer older children who can play with me and not be intimidated by my excitement. I'm a very good boy and know some basic commands. I have pretty good leash manners, unless there is a cat nearby. I'll need someone who can make sure I know that cats aren't made for good boys to chase. After a good romp in the yard or a long walk, I'm ready for some snuggle time. I have been neutered,  combo tested- all negative, vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated, and my preventives are up to date. If you are looking for a sweet adventure buddy, I'm your guy. Fill out the adoption applicaion on this website to see if we're a match.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 26, 2024, 10:27 am

is looking for a home as the only pet since he is not dog nor cat friendly. He always loves to have a toy in his mouth a majority of time! This big goofball needs an active home with a fenced in yard or someone who is willing to exercise him as he is an active boy. Hugo is a rottie/boxer mix (our best guess). He is UTD on vaccines, he is neutered, is microchipped. He was lyme postive, but has been treated. He is 5 years old and weighs in at 60 lbs. $125 to adopt. Apply at hshcwv.org/adopt.html

Story
Ham is an adorable 2-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier mix who was brought to the HSOV on December 6, 2023 and placed in an outside kennel sometime during the overnight- or early morning hours. Ham was wearing a wide blue collar and a seresto-type flea collar, but unfortunately there weren't any id tags or dog license tag on his collar ... And he was not microchipped. We hope that someone will recognize this good-looking boy! This handsome young man has a black short smooth coat with subtle charcoal gray shading, a patch of white of his chest, a long tail, and a beautiful face with expressive brown eyes, a black/charcoal nose, and short semi-erect ears. Ham has a sweet disposition and a happy, outgoing personality. Ham was quite the gentleman when HSOV Lead Canine Kennel Tech Jared Nash (who is also a fine gentleman himself) (smile). Ham thoroughly enjoyed his 15-minutes of fame and made the most of exploring new territory and making new friends. He watched carefully when cars pulled into our driveway as though he was expecting someone to be coming to take him home again (which always breaks our hearts to see that look of anticipation on a dog's face when they are being photographed). Ham weighs 61.4 lbs and is fairly strong on a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Ham will be held for three days so that his family will have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership.

Story
Nova & Rosie were both rescued from a place deep in West Virginia, where the breeders had too many puppies running loose, and some were being killed by coyotes. They were rescued with eight other puppies at the time. We brought them home when they were six weeks old. Their birthday is June 25, 2022. They are almost 2 years old. Both of them really are good happy-going, loving, playful dogs. They just do not get along with our elderly dog who is 12 years old. They have attacked her once before but that might be because they know she does not like them. Both Nova and Rosie are very good around our two-year-old granddaughter. They get along with our daughter’s dogs. Not sure if they like cats or not. They sleep in their crate. We have the microchip sets for them but we have not activated them yet. We really want to make sure they are being re-homed in a good home as they deserve to be loved and active with. They are very close and can’t be separated.

Story
Neptune is a magnificent 3-year old male American Staffordshire Terrier who was surrendered by his owner on April 24, 2024. Neptune may look familiar to some of our volunteers and Facebook fans since Neptune was originally bought to the HSOV on December 14, 2023 after he was found on State Route 7 in the Marietta/Reno Ohio area. Neptune was not wearing a collar, but a microchip was detected. Our shelter staff attempted to locate his owner through the microchip data but was unable to do so since the individual to whom the microchip was registered had re-homed Neptune to a 'friend-of-a-friend' and no longer had any contact information (sigh). This handsome guy has a sleek chocolate brown-and-white coat, white markings on his legs/paws, a long tail with a white tip on the end, and a beautiful symmetrically-marked face with dark brown eyes, a chocolate nose on his pink/white muzzle, and cute 'cartoon ears'. You cannot look at Neptune's mischievous-looking face without smiling. Neptune has a playful, fun-loving personality. Thanks to HSOV Kennel Tech Emily Beaver who accompanied Neptune for his outdoor photos on December 16th. Neptune thoroughly enjoyed his '15-minutes of fame' and (like all of the HSOV dogs), he loved Emily. Neptune weighs 62 lbs and is strong on the other end of a leash. In compliance with the Ohio Revised Code, Neptune was held for three days so that his family would have an opportunity to reclaim him with proof of ownership. Since Neptune was not reclaimed, he was neutered on February 15, 2024 and was also given rabies vaccine. We did our usual 'Happy Dance' when Neptune was adopted on March 2, 2024 .. But Neptune's time in his new home was short-lived since he was returned to HSOV on April 24, 2024. It seems that Neptune was jumping the fence in his new home and making un-wanted social visits with his neighbors' dogs (and was not playing nice) ... So we would suggest Neptune find a home that he would not have to share with other dogs or be allowed to leaving his property unleashed. Neptune is still a happy boy with a very outgoing personality. We have him on our "needs updated photos" list~

Story
Anyone else hearing 'Eye of the Tiger'? Our former heavyweight champion, Rocky, is looking for a comeback and needs your help to get back to his best. HSOP is just not equipped for training world champions, but report that his current workout is a brisk walk on a leash, multiple sniff reps followed by 30 sec reps of sit and hold. Rocky isn't all tough guy, though. He is looking for his Adrian, some one to scratch his back and that can be his family. Rocky is currently around 58lbs, 1.5 years. He did come in with a training partner, Duke, and may be willing to join an existing training team but HSOP staff can help facilitate that introduction. If you are interested in Rocky, you can fill out an application online at https://www.hsop.org/copy-of-adoption-application * Please note that PetFinder Inquiries do not count as applications, and we often do not see them. To speak to an adoption counselor, you can fill out an application on our website or give us a call at 304-422-5541! *
