If you’ve ever wanted a dog who could enter a room and immediately make everyone stop what they’re doing, meet Show Pony.
This extraordinarily handsome Great Dane mix is around a year old, incredibly tall, and—let’s be honest—pretty majestic. He arrived at Chicago Animal Care and Control as a stray, and we have a hard time imagining he was wandering the streets for very long. A dog who looks like Show Pony would stick out like, well… a Great Dane on the streets of Chicago.
Fortunately for us, he made his way to Heartland, but we can't believe no one scooped him up for the two weeks he was at CACC. Everyone who meets Show Pony quickly discovers that this enormous dog has an equally enormous heart.
Show Pony is ridiculously sweet with people. He loves attention, loves being touched, loves hugs, and seems genuinely delighted whenever someone wants to spend time with him. During his medical exam, even our vet commented repeatedly about what a nice dog he is. He sat calmly for her, happily accepted his vaccinations without restraint, and seemed perfectly content to be handled—even when the handling involved a needle!
He is also wonderful with other dogs. Show Pony loves canine friends and is remarkably thoughtful about his size. He seems to understand that he is a big boi and is careful not to overwhelm smaller dogs. He can play, socialize, and hang out with friends of any size.
He is still only about a year old, so we suspect there is a little mischief lurking beneath all that good behavior. And honestly, we can't blame him! If we were a dog who was tall enough to casually investigate everything on the countertops, we probably would too.
So far, however, Show Pony has demonstrated that he is interested in investigating—not destroying. He gets to hang out in our director’s office because, quite frankly, everyone wants him around, and he has been exceptionally well-behaved. There has only been one incident involving a large pile of papers being "accidentally" knocked off a standing desk.
We have chosen to believe it was an accident...
Show Pony is still young and will need a family who understands that giant-breed puppies come with giant bodies, giant feet, and occasionally giant opinions. This boy is an incredibly affectionate, social, gentle, and well-mannered dog who seems to think his primary purpose in life is to be near people and make friends.
He is the kind of dog who makes an impression everywhere he goes—not just because of his size, but because of his personality.
Show Pony isn't just handsome. He is the whole package. We hope you will ask about him today!
Show Pony’s adoption fee is $300. This animal is neutered, up to date on core vaccines, and Heartworm negative.
