Story
Meet Cheetos who is being fostered in the Ottawa area. If you're looking for a fun-loving best friend to keep you smiling, Eleven month old Cheetos might just be your perfect match! This handsome young boy is full of curiosity and is always taking in the world around him. Walks are one of his favourite adventures—he loves watching everything happening around him, tilting his head as if he's trying to figure it all out. Cheetos is a smart pup who has already learned to sit politely for treats and takes them ever so gently. Playtime is where Cheetos truly shines! He absolutely loves toys and can often be found proudly carrying one around the house, hoping someone will join in the fun. His favourite game is tug, and nothing makes him happier than convincing another dog to grab the other end. He also enjoys playing fetch and spending hours running and exploring outside. At home, Cheetos has a softer side. He loves lounging on cushions with his legs draped over the edge or resting his head on a pillow while watching the world go by from the window. Once he feels comfortable, he's an affectionate cuddle bug who enjoys curling up beside his people and even stretching across your lap for some love. Cheetos gets along wonderfully with other dogs and would absolutely thrive with a playful canine companion to wrestle, chase, and share adventures with. He also lives peacefully with two dog-savvy cats. While he's friendly with new people, he likes a few moments to sniff and assess the situation before his sweet personality shines through. Like any young pup, Cheetos is still learning. He can be mouthy with household items if left unattended, pulls on leash, and gets very excited by squirrels, rabbits, and other dogs while out for walks. He's crate trained and his house training has come a long way, but he'll continue to benefit from consistency, patience, and positive reinforcement. Cheetos is looking for an active family with a securely fenced yard where he can safely run and burn off his puppy energy. A home with another playful dog would be a dream come true. Because he enjoys companionship and interaction, he'd do best with someone who is home for part of the day and has the time to continue his training, play fetch, enjoy long walks, and help him become the incredible dog we know he can be. Training would be beneficial to give him confidence and learn manners. Respectful children 6+ . No apartments or condos since he can be vocal at times. If you're searching for an eager, intelligent, playful companion with a heart full of love and a toy always in his mouth, Cheetos is waiting to meet you!

Story
MEET SHEP: 100% SWEETHEART, 0% UNDERSTANDING OF PERSONAL SPACE Shep is two years old, and his favourite place is wherever his person happens to be.He is a big, affectionate boy who immediately leans his entire body into you for love. A quick pat will not do; Shep is looking for the full snuggle experience!A few things we love about Shep:- He is incredibly affectionate and people-focused- He takes treats very gently- He is relatively quiet and settled indoors- He is friendly and eager to meet visitors when introduced properly- Responds well to redirection- He has an excellent appetite, which makes training much easier- He enjoys getting out for walks- He occasionally forgets how big he is and tries to become one with his person-Toys are fine—but people are much more interestingShep is young, smart and still learning the basics. He can jump, pull on leash and become overly enthusiastic when excited, but he is responsive and eager to engage. With consistency, positive reinforcement and someone willing to keep teaching him, he has so much potential.SHEP’S IDEAL HOMEShep would do best with:-Someone comfortable handling a strong, energetic dog- A person who wants a loving, devoted companion- Continued work on basic obedience, leash manners and calm greetings- A predictable routine with clear, consistent boundaries- Calm introductions when new people visit- A home where he can be the only dogShep has had very little appropriate socialization with other dogs, and being close to them can be overwhelming for him, particularly around male dogs. He can also alert when unfamiliar people approach his space, especially men. When visitors are introduced to him properly, however, he has been friendly and excited to meet them.Shep may still be learning his manners, but he already knows how to love with his whole heart and his whole body.If you have been looking for an affectionate, goofy and loyal companion who will always be ready to lean in a little closer, contact the Humane Society of Kawartha Lakes to learn more about Shep.

Story
Kodiak is the true definition of an adventure buddy! Do you enjoy hiking, running, biking, swimming or exploring? Kodiak is the perfect dog for you! In fact he is already and waiting at the door for you! He is an intelligent dog who is capable of learning extremely quickly. He already knows the commands sit, down, stay, come, and speak! Kodiak’s greatest strength is his loyalty; Up or down, good or bad, happy or sad it will be Kodiak and you against the world. What makes Kodiak special is that he has so much love to give. The exact reasons you are looking for a dog are the same reason Kodiak desperately wants his forever human. He will need a very active adult-only family to drain his energy in order to keep him happy. Kodiak is looking for an experienced and confident owner to continue working on his reactivity to dogs and new people. He will need a strong leader to slowly introduce him to new people using the methods he has been taught while at Dog Tales. Kodiak is not friendly with strangers, children or other animals. Therefore he will need to live in a house with a fully fenced backyard. Once he is comfortable with a person he will become very attached and a great listener. Kodiak is looking for his chance with someone special. Upon adoption, Dog Tales can provide training for Kodiak and you in order to set you up for success.
