She's a true peoplelover, always ready for affection and cuddles. Suzi enjoys a variety of things and activities such as playing tug, soft squeaky toys, going on walks, frozen peanut butter filled kongs, hard chews, licky mats, snuffle mats, dog puzzles, soft foam dog beds (and maybe a fuzzy one for her head), belly rubs, and giving kisses. She's potty trained and kennel trained, though she'd rather be by your side.  Suzi has a bit of a prey drive, so she's not suited for homes with small animals. She's selective with other dogs, making her a good fit as an only dog or with a submissive dog companion. She's actively learning commands and tricks (sit, lie down, come, wait, here, get it, give it, leave it, place, here, spin, twirl, touch, hide, roll over, crawl and catch) and is eager to please for treats or toys. Suzi is intelligent, inquisitive, and knows when to relax. If you're seeking a Border Collie's intelligence, beauty, and loyalty without the high energy, Suzi is your ideal match. She requires a fenced yard and someone knowledgeable about her breed. She's spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick prevention. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.  Update on Louise Louise has made wonderful progress and continues to settle beautifully into home life. She now happily comes over for snacks, follows her people from room to room, and enjoys spending time with the other dogs in the house. She’s discovered the joy of couches and cozy beds and is comfortable taking naps while her humans go about their daily routines. Louise thrives on structure and has established a solid routine. When called, she will come to you, and she knows her crate well—running right to it and waiting patiently at mealtimes. She is respectful of her space and does not chew blankets, so she enjoys having plenty of soft bedding in her crate. Toys and bones are her absolute favorites. Louise is fully potty trained. She continues to make steady progress in her confidence and daily routine. She must have a securely fenced yard, as this is important for her comfort and safety. While she does best in a calm environment, Louise can be unsure around strangers in the home and will need to be placed in her “safe zone,” such as her crate, when visitors arrive. She may bark at new people, and her rescue is actively working with her on this behavior. Leash walking will require patience and consistency, but with a gentle, understanding adopter, she has the potential to improve. Louise is looking for a patient, committed home that will continue helping her build confidence and reach her next milestone. With time, structure, and love, she will make a deeply loyal and rewarding companion. He LOVES cuddling on the couch, snuggling into warm blankets fresh from the dryer, and rubbing his face on yours when he wants attention. Squeaky ball fanatic Completed obedience classes—smart and eager to please Great in the car and enjoys short walks Excellent house manners Showing wonderful improvement on leash around distractions, including other dogs Leroy would do best as the only dog in his home or could live with a submissive female dog. While he’s sweet and friendly with people (just ask his vet team!), he’s happiest and most relaxed when he doesn’t have to share his space with more dominant dogs. Meet Lucky: A Loyal Shadow with a Gentle Heart Lucky is a sweet 9-year-old cattle dog mix with a calm spirit, a soft heart, and a deep love for being near his people. After the passing of his male owner, he settled into foster life and has shown everyone what a steady, affectionate companion he can be. Lucky is happiest indoors, padding from room to room as his foster mom’s loyal little shadow. He is leash trained, has excellent recall, and comes running with enthusiasm when called. When new people arrive, he may bark at first, but he settles quickly once he understands everything is okay. Lucky can coexist with other dogs, though he has his preferences and may not enjoy every canine friend he meets. He ignores cats, making him an easygoing presence around feline friends. He is crate-trained, but he rarely needs one because he does so well with his house manners and outdoor routine. He enjoys a little playtime, but he is just as content curling up on the couch for a quiet snuggle. Story
Nancy is a young Australian cattle dog who would just love to sit on your lap and be cuddled all day. She’s smart and full of personality with spurts of play time then lots of chill time.  Nancy is about 3 or 4 years old. She is completely house trained and is excellent in her crate. She’s good on a leash and knows several commands including “sit” and “kennel.” She is particularly motivated if treats are involved! Nancy loves other dogs but can get pretty rowdy when she plays. She would be great with a dog buddy as long as the dog is accepting, playful, and not easily offended by silly antics. One of Nancy’s favorite things is to talk to all her favorite toys. Nancy needs a home with a fenced-in yard and would prefer someone who has herding dog experience. Nancy has trouble navigating stairs and needs a home with no steps. No kids under 10 please. Story
Gabriel came to us from a rural shelter in the Carolinas. This young dog had been seriously injured after being hit by a car. The impact broke his leg and caused his eye to pop out. Although veterinarians were able to save his eye, he wasn’t able to see out of it, so it eventually had to be removed. He has recovered quickly from that procedure as well as surgery to fix his leg. Although Gabriel is only a couple years old, he totally acts like a puppy. He is extremely curious, energetic, and playful, but also loves to snuggle. He adores playing tug, thinks chew toys are fantastic, and has a blast with stuffed toys and his Jolly Ball. Gabriel is doing great with potty training and is working on leash and crate manners. He’s a quick learner and knows sit, kennel up, and hush. He is goofy and can be rowdy, but he totally wants to be a good boy. Gabriel is good with dogs that like to play as hard as he does. He needs a home with a fenced-in yard. He’d be fine as an only dog or would have fun with a well-matched dog pal. He’d love a family who might be interested in dog sports or other fun activities and who will spend time continuing to teach him how to be a great dog.  Gabriel wants to play and wants to be loved and cuddled. Roscoe is just an absolutely outstanding boy. He makes no mess in his kennel and is very gentle and well mannered on leash. We have paired Roscoe with various other dogs and he is always tolerant and playful. Please come down to Macoupin County Animal Control and view Roscoe for adoption. Our hours are Weekdays 10-2, closed Tuesday, and Saturday 8-12.
