Story
Rico and Halo are listed together because they are bosom buddies. We would love to see them be able to have a home together. Both of their information is here in this write up as well as in each of their personal listings.    Rico was a stray, picked up by AC and no one ever claimed him. He is appx 2 yrs old, and is neutered, heart worm negative (will need committed adopter to continue preventative) up to date on shots, worming and flea/tick preventative. Rico is a frisbee champion! He LOVES to play frisbee and can leap up in the air and catch it most of the time. He also loves to play fetch with his ball, he is good to bring it back and give it back to you. He is an intelligent boy, quick to learn, listens well. Rico loves to go for rides in the car.  Rico currently has access to a doggy door, and does great with that. He is good on a leash. Rico can be a bit grumbly when meeting other dogs. But once he knows them he is quite willing to play.  Rico and Halo have been together for quite awhile, they met in the foster home and were instantly comrades and have stayed buddies ever since. Rico was by Halo's side during her heart worm treatment. Their play style is a good match, they both play rough and tumble. Though they will occasionally squabble over a toy, it is quickly resolved without any problems. Both have an abundance of toys and balls to choose from and they make use of them:) Halo has the looks of a Boston Terrier but is much larger, at least in weight. She is short in stature with short legs, she is a little over 15 inches high at her shoulder but is a whopping 70 lbs! She is spayed and up to date on shots, worming and flea/tick preventative.  Halo came to us with severe skin lesions particularly around her neck, which indicates that she had likely had a large collar that was too tight and no care for her skin condition. Sadly Halo also tested heart worm positive. She has finished her treatment and the last blood test showed negative for heart worms YAY!! Halo is appx 2 yrs old Because of the heart worm diagnoses Halo MUST BE ON HEART WORM PREVENTATIVE year round. So her adopter must be committed to continuing her preventative. Halo loves people, belly rubs are a favorite thing of hers. She is a strong girl, and though most times will take treats nicely she can get a bit excited over treats and toys. She wants to know what you have in your hand if you are carrying something and will bounce up to try and get a look. She walks on a leash fairly well, likes to carry the leash in her mouth or maybe a toy or ball on walks. Stuffed toys are quickly destroyed, so tough toys are best for this girl.  Halo LOVES toys and balls!  Her favorite is a Kong squeaky ball, but she loves getting new toys and balls and also chew bones. She has access to a doggy door currently and does very well going outside to do her business. Halo does well with other dogs if they are willing to be friendly and play. She has rough and tumble play style. She MUST have a fenced yard as her curious nature can lead to wandering The ideal home for these two would be a home with no other dogs, cats or small children. Fenced yard is a must so that they can run and play safely. Someone who is dog savvy and understands the time and patience needed in having two sweet but energetic dogs. Commitment to daily play times of frisbee and fetch are essential for these two! Story
Askem is a sensitive and soulful little guy who’s had his world turned upside down recently. At around 25 pounds, he’s on the smaller side — possibly a mix of Heeler and Chihuahua — and combines the sharp intelligence and need for purpose of a working dog with the emotional sensitivity and wariness that can come with tiny-dog genetics. The result? A dog who feels deeply, bonds strongly, and needs a bit of extra support navigating change. Askem was originally adopted from us as a puppy and spent the majority of his life with his first owner, who adored him. They gave him a loving, stable home for nearly two years and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him — affectionate, loyal, and a true companion. Unfortunately, a sudden change in their living situation meant they could no longer care for him. They tried to rehome Askem to a relative, but the match just wasn’t right, and after a short time in that second home, Askem found himself back with us — confused, overwhelmed, and unsure of what was happening. Understandably, he hasn’t adjusted well to the change. He’s a naturally nervous dog, and losing the only home he ever knew has shaken his sense of security. In the short-term home he passed through, Askem was reported to struggle with house training and was defensive with guests. These behaviors aren’t uncommon for dogs dealing with stress and uncertainty — especially those like Askem who are already prone to anxiety. It seems likely that he tried to cope the only way he knew how: by overcompensating with controlling behavior (classic Heeler) and reacting quickly when he felt vulnerable (classic Chihuahua). What Askem needs now is someone who can see past those stress responses and understand what they really mean — a dog who is insecure, not difficult. He would thrive with a confident, patient person who can offer him structure, predictability, and firm-but-kind boundaries. He’s the kind of dog who finds comfort in routine, and who will slowly let his guard down when he knows what to expect and who to trust. Beneath the nerves, Askem is incredibly affectionate. Sit down with him and speak softly, and you’ll see the longing in his eyes — he wants to be close, to crawl into your lap, to melt under your touch. He loves scritches and rubdowns and clearly desires connection. We're giving him the time and space he needs right now to rebuild his confidence, and he's already starting to show those sweet, loyal glimpses of the dog he once was. Askem isn’t a dog for everyone — he needs a calm home, likely without young children, and with someone who’s familiar with shy or reactive dogs. But for the right person, he’ll be a deeply rewarding companion. If you believe that trust is something worth earning, and you're ready to help a dog rediscover what it means to feel safe, Askem just might be waiting for you.

Story
🐾 Meet Rocket 🐾 Rocket is a 3-year-old Cattle Dog whose world was turned upside down due to an unfortunate and heartbreaking situation. He didn’t lose his home because he wasn’t loved or wanted—in fact, quite the opposite. Rocket had a family, a kid who adored him, and a home where he was clearly cherished. During a child’s birthday party, with lots of extra kids running around (as kids do), Rocket handled the excitement well for quite some time. But as a herding breed, his instincts eventually kicked in. In an attempt to regain control of the chaos, Rocket nipped a child on the back of the leg. While the situation was resolved and no lasting harm was done, the landlord ultimately decided Rocket could no longer stay in the home. His kid was devastated, and Rocket didn’t understand why everything suddenly changed. The transition has been very hard on him. He’s still adjusting to the shelter environment, which is a far cry from the life he knew. Even so, we are more than willing to be a character witness for Rocket—because this boy is good. Rocket is incredibly sweet and affectionate. He seeks out human attention and leans into love, making it very clear that he’s been well cared for and deeply bonded to his people. We were told he is house trained, has lived with kids his whole life, does okay with cats, and has had doggie friends in the past. Rocket would thrive in a home that understands and respects herding breed instincts—one that can provide structure, guidance, and appropriate outlets for his intelligence and energy. With the right environment and expectations, Rocket has so much love and loyalty to give. This wasn’t a bad dog situation. This was a heartbreaking circumstance. Rocket deserves a second chance at the stable, understanding home he so desperately misses. 💙

Story
Meet Osiris 🖤🤍 Osiris is about a year and a half old, and while we can only guess at his breed mix, we’re thinking Cattle Dog x Terrier… with a few suspicious spots that look an awful lot like Dalmatian flair. Whatever the mix, he’s a truly unique and handsome guy. Osiris was adopted from us as a 5-month-old puppy and spent his first year in a home where he was loved and cared for. Unfortunately, when his family found out they were expecting a human baby, they came to the conclusion Osiris was no longer a good fit for their situation. There’s no blame being placed—but it’s important to know that his return had nothing to do with behavior issues or being bad with kids. He simply wasn’t given the chance. And that part has been the most confusing for him. Now back at the shelter, Osiris is still adjusting. The shelter environment can be overwhelming, and because of that, he can be unsure of strangers at first and may come off a little defensive during initial meet-and-greets. But give him a little time (and maybe a few treats—those definitely help), and you’ll quickly see his true self shine through. Once he feels safe, he’s incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to connect. Osiris is: - House trained - Crate trained - Good with other dogs and cats - Familiar with basic commands He’s a good boy who just needs patience, understanding, and someone willing to let him settle in at his own pace. We truly believe that in the right home, Osiris will blossom into a loyal, loving companion. All he’s asking for now is a chance—the kind he never got before. 💙

Story
Iris is a very intelligent girl; she is just a little over 3 years in age (we got her from the pound as a puppy). She is house trained, potty trained, crate trained and knows basic commands such as sit, stay, no bark, come, etc... She is a very aware and good alert dog. She loves being outside, exploring, but can chill in the house to with no issues. Very hygienic, and clean dog on her own. She is a super smart loving girl who we hate to rehome, but we are expecting another child, and my spouse has developed eczema in the process on their hands from the small amount of dog dandruff she does have, we will keep Iris, but she would be better off in a more active household or outdoor environment such as a farm or property with land, as we will have most of our time consumed the next few years with children. We have her shot records, she is chipped, spayed, her nails tend be a little longer, she is very peculiar about her paws being touched and trimmed.
