Story
Askem is a sensitive and soulful little guy who’s had his world turned upside down recently. At around 25 pounds, he’s on the smaller side — possibly a mix of Heeler and Chihuahua — and combines the sharp intelligence and need for purpose of a working dog with the emotional sensitivity and wariness that can come with tiny-dog genetics. The result? A dog who feels deeply, bonds strongly, and needs a bit of extra support navigating change. Askem was originally adopted from us as a puppy and spent the majority of his life with his first owner, who adored him. They gave him a loving, stable home for nearly two years and had nothing but wonderful things to say about him — affectionate, loyal, and a true companion. Unfortunately, a sudden change in their living situation meant they could no longer care for him. They tried to rehome Askem to a relative, but the match just wasn’t right, and after a short time in that second home, Askem found himself back with us — confused, overwhelmed, and unsure of what was happening. Understandably, he hasn’t adjusted well to the change. He’s a naturally nervous dog, and losing the only home he ever knew has shaken his sense of security. In the short-term home he passed through, Askem was reported to struggle with house training and was defensive with guests. These behaviors aren’t uncommon for dogs dealing with stress and uncertainty — especially those like Askem who are already prone to anxiety. It seems likely that he tried to cope the only way he knew how: by overcompensating with controlling behavior (classic Heeler) and reacting quickly when he felt vulnerable (classic Chihuahua). What Askem needs now is someone who can see past those stress responses and understand what they really mean — a dog who is insecure, not difficult. He would thrive with a confident, patient person who can offer him structure, predictability, and firm-but-kind boundaries. He’s the kind of dog who finds comfort in routine, and who will slowly let his guard down when he knows what to expect and who to trust. Beneath the nerves, Askem is incredibly affectionate. Sit down with him and speak softly, and you’ll see the longing in his eyes — he wants to be close, to crawl into your lap, to melt under your touch. He loves scritches and rubdowns and clearly desires connection. We're giving him the time and space he needs right now to rebuild his confidence, and he's already starting to show those sweet, loyal glimpses of the dog he once was. Askem isn’t a dog for everyone — he needs a calm home, likely without young children, and with someone who’s familiar with shy or reactive dogs. But for the right person, he’ll be a deeply rewarding companion. If you believe that trust is something worth earning, and you're ready to help a dog rediscover what it means to feel safe, Askem just might be waiting for you.

Story
Hannah is a now 1+ year old Cattle Dog/Terrier mix who originally came to us as a young pup after being found on a back road with her presumed sister, Cocoa. At that time, she was the calmer and more gentle of the two — a sweet, mild-mannered girl who was a bit timid in new situations but full of quiet affection once she felt safe. Recently, Hannah found her way back to us through Animal Control. Unfortunately, her adopter did not officially surrender her, so we don’t have many details about her time away. What we do know is that Hannah developed a habit of jumping the fence and touring the neighborhood, which eventually led to neighbor complaints and her return to our care. Now a little over a year old, Hannah has gained noticeable confidence. She’s excited to meet new people, loves attention, and enjoys being part of the action. Her personality has really blossomed, and while she still appreciates reassurance and structure, she’s becoming a happy, outgoing young dog. Hannah is now likely over 50 lbs, making her a sturdy, medium-to-large girl. She would do best in a home that can provide both physical and mental stimulation, along with a securely fenced yard or supervised outdoor time, as she has shown she can be an adventurous spirit. With consistency, patience, and love, Hannah will make a loyal, fun, and devoted companion. She’s ready for a fresh start and a forever family who will give her the stability, guidance, and affection she deserves. 💛🐾

Story
Meet Bubba! Bubba is a guessed 10-month-old Cattle Dog x bully breed mix — but as always, your guess is as good as ours! What we do know for sure is that he’s a big-hearted, sweet, and lovable young dog who’s ready for a fresh start. Bubba and his brother were taken in by a kind couple who truly wanted to help, but quickly realized they were in over their heads. As the boys grew, they became larger and stronger than the family felt comfortable handling. After a lot of thought, they made the heartbreaking decision to relinquish one of them so he could have the chance at a home better suited to his needs. That lucky pup is Bubba. Bubba has always lived as an outside dog, so he will need some work on home manners, including house training, crate training, and basic obedience. But we always say — you can teach skills, but you can’t teach personality — and Bubba has a truly wonderful one. He is incredibly sweet, affectionate, and eager to bond with his people. Because a fenced yard is all he’s ever known, Bubba will need time, patience, and guidance as he learns about life indoors and the wider world. He’s still catching up on foundational skills, socialization, and confidence building, and his future family should be prepared to invest in helping him grow into the best version of himself. With consistency, structure, and love, we know Bubba will absolutely thrive. Bubba is searching for a home that understands young dogs, enjoys training, and is excited to watch a pup blossom. With just a little effort and a lot of love, Bubba is going to make someone an amazing, loyal, and rewarding companion. 🐾💙

Story
Iris is a very intelligent girl; she is just a little over 3 years in age (we got her from the pound as a puppy). She is house trained, potty trained, crate trained and knows basic commands such as sit, stay, no bark, come, etc... She is a very aware and good alert dog. She loves being outside, exploring, but can chill in the house to with no issues. Very hygienic, and clean dog on her own. She is very aware and observant of emotions and is a good support dog as well.

Story
Meet Phil and Lil! These two sweet pups were found abandoned out in the countryside, so unfortunately we don’t know much about their early lives. Based on their timid personalities, it seems likely they didn’t have much exposure to the world during their first few months. We estimate they’re around 7 months old, and they appear to be Australian Shepherd mixes—but as always with rescue dogs, your guess is as good as ours. Of the pair, Phil is the more confident one. He’s still shy and needs a little time to warm up, but with patience (and plenty of treats) he begins to show his gentle, affectionate side. Once he realizes you’re safe, you can see how much he wants to trust and connect. Phil is a very sweet boy at heart—just a little unsure of the world right now. Lil is having a harder time adjusting to shelter life. When people pass by her kennel, she often bolts to the outside area because she feels overwhelmed and uncomfortable. It’s clear she hasn’t had much human interaction in her short life, and everything still feels very new and scary to her. Lil is a very special girl who will need a very patient and understanding family—someone willing to move at her pace and give her the time she needs to feel safe. Both Phil and Lil will need a lot of catch-up when it comes to socialization. New experiences, new people, and everyday life are things they’re still learning about. With patient families, gentle encouragement, and positive experiences, they have every chance to grow in confidence and blossom into wonderful companions. These pups just need someone willing to believe in them and help show them the world isn’t such a scary place. 💛
