Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Ruby’s last puppy was adopted today and Miss Ruby has now officially said goodbye to motherhood and hello to a forever life of being number one!!!! Can we say enough about this girl????? Ruby has never met anything - human or animal - that she doesn’t like. Ruby is the most chill and well adjusted dog we have ever met. She is a cuddler and a lover and will make the most amazing family dog and companion. Ruby does have an old fracture that was never treated and healed creating a malformation in her front leg. We considered amputation as it seemed to be painful, but after consulting with specialists, we decided to treat conservatively with anti-inflammatories and it seems to be working well. She will have to be on medication for the rest of her life, but that will enable her to have the life that she deserves. She is able to go on walks and homes and get around just fine. She should not be a dog that goes on long hikes or a running companion, but most of us aren’t that person either. Do you have room in your heart and home for this amazing girl? She is spayed and microchipped and up to date on vaccines. She is about four years old and weighs under 50 pounds. She is completely house trained and prefers to ride shotgun in the car and sleep under the covers. If that’s your kind of girl, complete an application on LSAR.rescuegroups.org to be considered.  Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.October 5, 2025, 2:17 pm

Story
Queenie’s story is one that still baffles us. She was found abandoned in a rural area — and sitting on a rock nearby was a brand-new leash and harness. We couldn’t help but wonder: who would abandon her, yet take the time to leave her something new? When Queenie first arrived, she was terrified of human touch. It seemed she had little, if any, prior handling. But someone clearly knew her and cared enough to leave her those items. It took weeks of patient socialization before she allowed us to gently pet her. Today, after time and trust-building, Queenie has blossomed into a confident, affectionate, and utterly endearing dog. Queenie is a 3-year-old, 40-pound Heeler mix, and let us tell you — BALL. IS. LIFE. She absolutely adores playing fetch and would happily chase her ball all day if she could! She’s done beautifully with other dogs after proper introductions and enjoys playing with her canine friends. Queenie continues to be socialized around cats; she’s not aggressive but seems unsure, so a home without cats would be ideal. She currently lives with two young children and does well, though we recommend older, respectful children due to her initially shy nature. Queenie has the quirkiest, most lovable habits! She loves to chase her tail — determined as ever to finally catch it — and she’s a master at hiding her food. Yes, you read that right! She’ll tuck her bowl away in creative hiding spots as if playing hide-and-seek. Thankfully, this behavior has improved greatly as she’s learned food will always be there for her. She’s also kennel-trained and will happily settle when it’s time to rest. True to her breed, Queenie has the loyal, intelligent, and energetic spirit of a Heeler. She’s deeply affectionate with her person and forms strong bonds with those she trusts. She can be cautious around men, so she’ll need a patient introduction with males. Queenie’s ideal home would be a rural setting where she can stretch her legs and play ball daily. Experience with Heeler or herding breeds is preferred. Continued socialization is key for Queenie. She is spayed, microchipped, dewormed, and up to date on vaccines. A fenced yard and homeownership are preferred. (Please note: this rescue does not adopt to homes with unaltered domestic pets.) Queenie is personality-plus — loyal, smart, and full of heart. Once you get to know her, you’ll truly fall in love.
