Story
Kip is a true velcro pup with a heart of gold. While indoor life is clearly a brand-new adventure for him, he loves cuddling on the couch! He is crate-trained and has not had any accidents inside. Currently fostered in Gainesville area, Kip is heartworm positive and the rescue is willing to pay for treatment up to 600 dollars. Our usual treatments range from 500 -700. He LOVES to meet new people and has a playful energy. He does a good job on leash and is not reactive to other dogs even if they are. When it comes to play, he matches other dogs energy. He is calm around the resident dog who is old and not interested in play, while he wants to play with the young, high energy resident dog. When he gets excited he may jump up on new people, but he’s easy to correct and knows to sit for his attention. While traditional fetch isn't really his thing, he loves a good rope toy! Watching for squirrels and lizards in the yard is his absolute favorite hobby, so this prey drive won't be the best fit for homes with cats. Because he is food-motivated, working on new commands with him is fun and rewarding. He easily learned commands like "sit", "here", "wait", and "go to your place" (for going to his crate). He is a sensitive soul who thrives on encouragement and soft, positive reinforcement. He learns quickly and just wants to make his humans happy! Kip will do wonderfully with a dog savvy owner who appreciates his playful side and is willing to be patient with slow introductions to resident dogs as he learns more about house-dog life. Story
This older 7 yr old gal has just been returned to the shelter after being with a local foster.. She was in an equestrian setting and the constant coming and going of people was a bit too much for her. Sadie is extremely intelligent, food-motivated, and eager to learn. She already knows sit, paw, down, stay, come, and roll over, and she enjoys learning new tricks. She is housebroken and crate trained. Despite having plenty of energy for training and activities, she is also very happy to settle down and be a couch potato. At her current foster home, she has calmly ignored the horses and done well around the barn. Sadie can be a little cautious when meeting new people and does best with a slow, positive introduction. Treats are definitely the way to her heart! Sitting down, offering her treats, and giving her a little time to approach at her own pace usually allows her to warm up quickly. Sadie has successfully participated in many appropriate playgroups with other dogs. She can enjoy canine friends but may correct dogs who become too pushy and sometimes tries to monitor or “police” energetic play. She also has a previous history of playing roughly with children, so we feel she would be best suited for an adult-only home or a home with older children who understand appropriate boundaries. Sadie has also had one previous nip during a meet-and-greet while a staff member was holding her leash as the potential adopter family was leaving the yard. The nip did not break the skin. Because of this history, her future placement should be comfortable providing structure, management, and slow introductions with unfamiliar people. Sadie has so much to offer the right person. She is smart, loyal, affectionate once comfortable, and eager to learn. We would especially love to find a rescue or adopter who understands herding breeds and appreciates their intelligence and unique personalities. Sadie is in need of a foster or foster to adopt home!! Great for an older couple who wants a lovely companion. you really should be dog savvy with this girl, not just herders but dogs in general. Meet Bret! Bret is a 1-year old male Australian Cattle Dog mix who weighs about 35 pounds. He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and heartworm negative. He is currently located in Spring Hill. Bret's foster is willing to travel within 2 hours of Spring Hill, FL for an approved adoption applicant! Bret is a lovely, affectionate boy with tons of energy and enthusiasm for life. He absolutely loves to run and play, and he’ll happily soak up all the attention you’re willing to give. With his intelligence and drive, he would make a fantastic sports prospect or thrive with an active family that enjoys hiking, running, water activities, or other outdoor adventures. He does well with other dogs and would benefit from having another active canine companion to help burn off his energy. He is not a good fit for cats because he plays rough with them. His experience with small children is unknown. Bret is crate trained and leash trained. He heels well on a leash when given reminders. Bret also knows how to "auto-sit" when you stop walking. He has learned many other commands in training such as down, stay, come, and leave it. Bret appears to be house trained. Bret graduated from basic obedience and intermediate obedience. Macaroon is a 5-year-old heeler mix who has not had a kind life but so deserves one! A very timid girl she would thrive in a calm, secure, structured, dog-savvy home environment with maybe another quiet dog or two. Macaroon has been in a temporary foster home and is ready to move up to a longer term foster or forever home. Mac is healthy, vaccinated, spayed, and heartworm free. She is also quiet, and timid at first with both people and dogs, but once she warms up loves to be loved on. She also loves to play with toys and enjoys a game of fetch. Mac would benefit from more socialization, leash work, and a kind, patient, dog-savvy family that can set boundaries while also giving lots of TLC. Her energy level needs a fenced yard for play. Mac would be perfect for a calm person or couple with a steady routine that can introduce her to new situations and walks in small doses. She's very food motivated, house trained, and loves her crate -- her safe space. Mac longs to trust in people and be an active companion for hiking, the beach, day trips, and yard play!
