Hi! I am Athena I was born on February 17, 2024 along with 8 of my other siblings. I was the 5th one born, turned out to be the smallest, but my personality makes up for my size. I LOVE vegetables, fruit, and peanut butter. I enjoy playing with the other dogs in the house, or with my foster mom. Playing outside in the kiddy pool during the summer is my jam! My cutest trait is my nose! I do get easily spooked with new places, so give me time to adjust. I enjoy walks, it’s always a new adventure, even if it’s the same walk. I am crate trained for up to 7 hours.

We found Leeloo wandering the streets of downtown San Antonio. Leeloo is an older dog that has been through a lot in this life. She was found malnourished with a swollen ear and what looks like a broken jaw at one point. We believe she’s about 11-12. She’s an older dog, but she still has that puppy energy that comes out here and there. All she wants is affection, something I don’t think she’s had much of before finding her. Right now, we are looking to find her a more suitable home than ours. We already have two large dogs and being in an apartment makes having three extremely difficult. We love her and planned on keeping her with us but after having her for a few months now, we have come to find it is too much for us. We want to find her someone that can spend more time with her than we can and can have her as their #1. She is the sweetest dog, with a quirky personality. She is an old dog and deserves her last few years to be filled with love.

Introducing Auburn! Auburn is a beautiful Cattle Dog / Heeler mix who is approximately 2 years old and currently weighs 30 pounds. We rescued this gorgeous gal from the Hondo, TX shelter and although we don’t really know much bout he background, it is clear that people have not always been very kind to her. During her spay surgery, our vet discovered that she had been shot in the leg with a pellet gun. All of that is behind her now and we are excited to help this sweet girl find the loving home she deserves. Auburn is a gentle and curious. She needs someone who will go slow with her so that she can feel comfortable knowing that she will be treated kindly. Once she feels safe, she loves getting attention and affection. She gets along well with the other dogs in her playgroup and is happy and playful! With patience and lots of love we know Auburn will blossom and become a wonderful, loving companion to her new family. She is just waiting for that special person to understand her! She has a heart of gold and shows ZERO aggression of any kind. Sweet, submissive and needs one on one time and love, that we cannot give her here at the rescue. Auburn is located at our rescue in Hondo, Texas. She is spayed, up to date on all shots, microchipped and her adoption fee is $325. A meet and greet will be arranged with an approved application. Auburn tested positive for Chagas disease and has started her treatment. This is completely curable after treatment and dogs can go on to live long and happy lives. Our rescue is one of the first to do Chagas testing for all of the dogs in our care and is having measurable success in the treatment protocol. Major is an adorable Cattle Dog mix who is approximately 1.5 years old and currently weighs 45 pounds. He was found on the side of the road with his two brothers in south Texas near the border of Mexico. The puppies were starving, covered with fleas and ticks and were just in terrible condition. Thankfully a private rescuer was able to help these puppies and get them into our care. Major is happy, playful and very smart boy! He loves everyone he meets and is always ready for adventure! He has the best time playing with his toys and enjoys romping around the play yard with the other dogs in his play group. He loves getting attention and affection will make a very loving companion. Major has fun adventurous personality, which would make for a great hiking, running or agility buddy and we can really see him doing well growing up in just about any family environment. Izzie is a wonderful Cattle Dog Boxer mix who is approximately 4 years old and weighs 50 pounds. She was found living on the streets in a neighborhood in Weslaco, Texas near the border of Mexico. Everyone knew who she was, but no-one claimed her as their own. She was pregnant and had her babies under an abandoned trailer home. Local children heard the puppies crying and they crawled under the house to pull all of them out ! She did a good job of taking care of her babies. She is just such a sweet mama dog. All of that is behind her now! Izzie is such sweet girl with the most wonderful disposition. She is friendly, playful and is always happy to jump in the car and go on an adventure. She loves love love riding in the car, and would honestly make a great traveling companion! She loves everyone she meets and her tail is always wagging. Izzie gets along well with the other dogs in her group here at the rescue and is learning that toys are pretty cool, too. She is crate trained for her meals and for sleeping but if you asked Izzie, curling up next to her people in a warm bed would be a-ok with her as well. We just love this girl and can see her doing well in just about any family environment! Izzies updated video!
