Story
Saint is the most handsome boy with a very bright personality! This young, Australian Shepherd mix is estimated to be around 2 years old. He is heartworm negative, and appears to be in good health. Sadly, Saint arrived to our shelter as a stray and was never reclaimed by his owner. However, he has not allowed this to break his spirit at all.Saint enjoys time out in the yard, playing fetch, jumping for frisbees, and is overall a WONDERFUL dog. He is kennel trained, and incredibly toy motivated. Treats may get his attention, but if you have a tennis ball in your hands, you will be the only thing in the world he sees ;) Saint has already mastered the command, "Sit," and is very intelligent. Stop by the Humane Society of South Mississippi and meet him today! We are located at 2615 25th Avenue in Gulfport, MS. Our shelter is the only Open Admissions animal shelter on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and we provide shelter and love to over 5,000 of the Coasts' most vulnerable animals each year. When considering adoption, please consider adopting from your local animal shelter! We cannot save lives without our community's support!

Story
Dingo is a 7 year old male Australian Shepherd mix. Dingo is a sweet gentleman and a snuggly couch potato. Dingo walks well on leash and goes right into his kennel when asked to. Dingo loves to cuddle, sleep, and have some tasty treats. Dingo is already neutered, so he can stroll along to his furever home today! Come adopt from the Humane Society of South Mississippi (HSSM)! Each year HSSM houses approximately 7,000 homeless pets. Every day we are fighting a space capacity crisis as we try to care for the overwhelming amount of abandoned local pets. If you have a question about one of our adoptable animals, give us a call at (228) 863-3354, email adoptions@hssm.org or stop by from 10am-5pm Tuesday-Friday or 10am-4pm Saturday. Walk-ins stop 30 minutes before close. We are located at 2615 25th Ave in Gulfport. Come to our back parking lot through our adoptions entrance.

Story
UPDATE!!  We just don’t understand how this sweet boy continues to be overlooked. He’s been with us over a year and he is so deserving of a home to call his own! Meet Jax! This Lab/Aussie mix is 2 year old and 43 lbs. He was adopted as a puppy but sadly his parents divorced and he had to be returned. Jax is one cool dude. He’s happy, playful and doesn’t meet a stranger — human or fur friend! He loves to play outside, loves to romp around with other pups and kids and lives for the water. He’s a happy go lucky boy and would be perfect for a home that’s active and up for adventure because he loves it. While he is an active boy he also very much enjoys chill time on the couch with his people and cuddling in the bed. Jax is great inside and in a crate. He’s fully utd, neutered and ready for a home to call his own. Jax is really the perfect family pup!  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter! Puppies will be altered before adoption. All rescues and shelters practice pediatric spay and neuter. This is essential in our rescue efforts and it is a policy that we will stick by. All dogs over 8 weeks and 2 pounds will be altered before adoption.  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up.  Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. We also have full-time jobs and Families. We will try to answer all questions and applications in a timely manner. Please be patient and bear with us . Do not contact Parkway Animal Hospital as they are a vet clinic and can not answer questions on behalf of Wags and Whiskers. All questions and comments must go directly through the rescue. Thank you for your understanding.  ADOPTION APPLICATION  https://form.jotform.us/70898112177159Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.April 25, 2024, 1:01 pm

UPDATE!! One of our amazing volunteers worked endlessly to catch this sweet litter of 6 that were dumped and had been living on the streets for several weeks. Thanks to some amazing fosters that stepped up we were able to get these beauties to safety. They are slowly coming around and learning to be real puppies and their little personalities are starting shine! They appear to be lab/aussie/shepherd maybe! They are 10-12 weeks and 10 lbs. they will be medium to large sized adults. They will be ready 4/24/24 after their second vaccines! Get your apps in now on these beauties!  Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. There are no exceptions to this rule on all healthy and adoptable dogs. We have researched and discussed in depth with multiple vets everything on pediatric spay and neuter and from a rescue stand point it must be done. Please do not ask for an extension on spay and neutering, it will NOT be granted on a healthy puppy!  Puppies/Dogs that are not available for adoption due to vetting not being complete can be reserved with an approved application and a non refundable $50 deposit. Deposits can ONLY be submitted once the rescue has been in contact on your approval and it has been requested through Wags and Whiskers. This deposit is applied to your adoption fee and the remaining $125 is due at pick up. Wags and Whiskers is an all-volunteer rescue. Please allow us time to respond to all inquires and applications! UPDATE!!&#226&#156&#168 Thanks to some amazing Fosters we were able to secure these pups and get them into care. They have since been altered and up dated on vaccines and are adoption ready. They came to us from a local Overcrowded shelter where they were dumped. We are unsure of their breed but they are 10-12 weeks old and appear to be retriever/aussie and maybe some terrier in there mixes bc they are only around 4 lbs. We do believe they will be smaller medium sized adults. They are spunky, playful and oh so sweet. They are perfect for any household. They are utd, altered and ready for their forever homes!  Our adoptions are NOT on a first come first serve basis and there is no fee to apply! We never state any animal is fully House-trained. New environments, situations, families, routines, ect. can lead to accidents even with the most well trained animals.  All dogs have a $175 adoption fee which includes vet check, age appropriate shots (atleast 2 sets for puppies), dewormer, heartworm test (if over 6 months), rabies (if atleast 16 weeks) and spay/neuter!
