Lightning was brought to the shelter when his owner had to move and couldn't take him with her. He is a little shy at first, and will bite when pressured by strangers . He seems to be great with children and other dogs. He is also housetrained. He is still a young dog and will need someone with alot of patience to get him comfortable in their home. He seems to be more accepting of women than men. I am still available for adoption, but currently I'm at Jeff City Correctional Center in the Puppies for Parole program. I was running around Montreal when Camden County Animal Control picked me up almost a year ago. Unfortunately, I was very sick with heartworms and have just now gotten the all clear from the vet so I am READY TO GO. I love to play with balls and go for walks with the volunteers and people who work here. I've been told I have really soft hair so you should come by and see for yourself. I will smile when you give me a pat. While I like all the people I meet and cats, I REALLY don't like dogs, so I will have to go to a home where I am the only dog and get all the attention I deserve. I already know a few commands so that just proves how smart I am. Hopefully, my good looks will entice someone with no other dogs to adopt me. Say hello to Rusty! He is an almost 4-year-old cattle dog mix who was recently rescued from a difficult situation by animal control. Sadly, his previous owner passed away, and Rusty had been left on a chain outside for likely the majority of his life. Based on how he acts coming inside, it's likely that he hasn't spent a whole lot of time indoors. But it is very clear that he never missed a meal. As a result, he is currently overweight and will require a family who is committed to helping him shed some pounds and get back in shape. The most important thing about Rusty, though, is that he has an awesome personality and is an incredibly gentle and loving dog. He has been introduced to dogs and has done well, though he would be happier in a more calm environment. For a cattle dog, he is a lot more mild mannered than you might think- though that may be a result of his extra fluffiness. He loves attention and affection, and is always trying to figure out how to fit in your lap.
