I’m Rio, and I’m looking for a safe place to land and a person who will show me just how wonderful life can be. ❤️🐾 My story is a little heartbreaking. My owner passed away, leaving me behind with my six puppies. Thankfully, some kind neighbors stepped up to care for us until Hay Dude Rescue could take us in. I’ve spent my time being a mama, looking out for my babies, and doing my best to survive. Now it’s finally MY turn to be taken care of. I’m about 2 years old and weigh around 55 pounds, which makes me a perfectly sized companion for someone looking for a medium-sized best friend. I’m a beautiful girl with a heart of gold, but I’ll be honest with you: I’m a little shy when meeting new people. I’ve spent time as a street dog, and when you’re trying to survive and protect six little puppies, you learn to be cautious about the world around you. I’m not an aggressive girl; I just need a little time to figure out that you’re one of the good ones. I do best when people let me approach at my own pace instead of expecting me to be best friends five seconds after meeting. Give me patience, kindness, and a little understanding, and you’ll start to see the real Rio emerge. ❤️ And let me tell you, once I get comfortable? I’m actually pretty funny! I have a silly side that comes out when I feel safe, and it’s such a joy to watch my personality blossom. I’ve been busy being a responsible mama for so long that I’m ready to discover what it’s like to just be a dog and enjoy life. No more worrying about raising six kids or keeping everyone in line. I’ve officially earned my retirement from motherhood! My dream home would be a calm, quieter household with people who understand that trust takes time. I could do well with respectful children who understand how to be gentle and give me space, but a home full of constant chaos, loud noises, and tiny humans acting like unsupervised hooligans probably isn’t my cup of tea. 😂 I just want a peaceful place where I can relax and learn that the world isn't such a scary place after all. Oh, and a bonus for my future family: I ride really well in the car! So once we’ve built that trust, I’ll be ready to accompany you on adventures, errands, or a good old-fashioned drive with the windows down. I know I may not be the dog who runs up to every stranger demanding attention, but please don't overlook me because I need a little extra time. There is a very sweet, funny, loving girl underneath that shy exterior, and I have so much love to give the person who earns my trust. Meet Sandy! 🧡🐾 Every little witch needs someone to look after her, and Sandy has certainly taken that job seriously! This beautiful mama arrived at Claws & Paws alongside her three adorable daughters after being surrendered to Animal Control. When we were asked if we could take this little family in, we fortunately had the space and were more than happy to help! While Sandy is still relatively new to us, she’s already made a wonderful first impression. She’s a happy, friendly, social girl with a sweet disposition and plenty of love to give! She’s also been a wonderful mama to her three little girls. Understandably, she can be a bit protective of her babies, but who could blame her? She’s simply been doing her best to look after her little family. We don’t know much about Sandy’s life before coming to us, and we’re still getting to know her. As she settles in, we’ll continue learning more about her personality, preferences, and what kind of home would suit her best. What we do know is that Sandy deserves a chance to be more than just a mama. She’s spent her time looking after her babies, and now we’re hoping someone will give her the opportunity to be loved and cared for herself. It’s just a bunch of Hocus Pocus! 🧙‍♀️✨ Meet the Sanderson sisters — Winnie, Mary, and Sarah! 🐾 These three adorable little ladies arrived at Claws & Paws alongside their mama, Sandy, after being surrendered to Animal Control. When we were asked if we could help this little family, we fortunately had the space and were more than happy to welcome them! While these three sisters may share a family resemblance, they’re already showing us that each has a personality of her own! 🧡 Winnie is our outgoing little social butterfly! She’s happy-go-lucky, playful, friendly, and always seems ready for her next adventure. This little lady has no shortage of enthusiasm and is more than happy to share it with everyone she meets! 💚 Mary and 💜 Sarah, on the other hand, are a little more reserved. These two girls are still finding their confidence and can be timid when faced with new people or experiences. But that’s all part of growing up! With patience, positive reinforcement, and plenty of positive experiences, we’re hopeful these little ladies will continue coming out of their shells. Like any young puppies, all three are essentially blank slates, ready to learn and grow alongside their forever families. Their adopters should be prepared for everything that comes with raising a puppy — potty training, crate training, basic obedience, chewing, and, perhaps most importantly, socialization! Early, positive exposure to new people, places, sounds, surfaces, and experiences is an important part of raising a confident, well-adjusted adult dog. This is especially important for our more timid girls, who will benefit from patient families willing to help them build confidence at their own pace. Puppies are a lot of work, and they don’t come with an instruction manual! But with consistency, patience, guidance, and plenty of love, the effort you put into them now can make a world of difference in the dogs they become. Winnie, Mary, and Sarah are just beginning their journeys, and we’re hoping to find each of them a family ready to make a lifetime commitment.
