Story
Meet Moche! Moche is being fostered here at the rescue in Athens, east TN. Out of state welcome however you would need to come here to meet him. He is not eligible for transport only because he is very shy of new people. His story is quite sad actually. He was adopted from us back in 2020, born at the beginning of December 2019 or the end of November 2019. He was adopted and we did everything right with the adoption process and it was a great home with a woman who loved him dearly. Covid came and his owner’s world sort of changed and he was never given the chance to meet new people or other dogs or even go anywhere. He stayed home with his one human and his best friend (a kitty), He snuggled with this kitty and they were besties. His owner contacted us a couple of weeks ago and said she had to return him and not because she wanted to but because it was the best thing for him. She had been overcome with mental health issues, there was a death in her family and she was facing eviction, She could not take care of him anymore because she couldn’t take care of herself. His first few days here were hard on him he was so scared of us and the other dogs and this new scary place. Keep in mind we are not your typical home we have anywhere from 25-50 dogs at a time (we board and board and train for clients as well as foster our rescues (with that being said it was scary for him because we have a very active and excited household here). It took a few days and he warmed up to us, he is now part of the pack and he loves the other dogs. He hasn’t figured out how to play like a dog but he’s working on it. He does have some sight issues and it appears to be some mild cataracts, that does not stop him from learning his way around and enjoying life. He will be getting vetted prior to adoption and we will get his eyes checked to verify his slight sight issues. Now that he trusts us he is a snuggle bug and begs for attention using his paw to tap for attention and loves to give you his tummy for tummy rubs. We feel confident that if you allow him a little time he will be the same with you. It’s not his fault at all for the lack of socialization he never got. He does have a bit of separation anxiety, only if he can hear you in another room and he can’t get to you. If you leave the home he does just fine. He hates the crate but he doesn’t have to be crated, he is fully potty trained and he doesn’t get into anything. He will settle down to sleep in a crate after he lets you know he ain’t happy with it lol. He sleeps all night-we allow him to free range the house at night and he has done amazing. He is learning how to play with toys via flirt pole and he loves it. He was fearful for his life in those first few days. Six years with one person and a best friend kitty. He had no clue what the world has to offer and that it could be so much fun. What he needs is time and patience and a loving owner who will help him with his new life and learn to love what the world has to offer. He is amazing with cats and dogs so if you have other pets that would just be a bonus for him. Older Kids would be fine if they can understand that he will take a little time to get to know them before he accepts pets and love. His home would need to be patient and give him a few days to trust and must also be willing to help him learn what the world is about by taking him places, having visitors (they don’t need to pet him he just needs to know their presence is not a threat). He is not aggressive at all he will just avoid them. If they ignore him and allow him to meet them on his terms he will eventually be fine with them. This all will change as he gets more adapted to his new life. He has come so far already with us. He just needs more one on one time with his new family. We are a great waystation for him to learn that the world has more to offer but we cannot offer him what a real home can. He really is a precious soul who was dealt a really bad hand in the card game of life. He needs someone to love him and show him the world is not to be feared but to be enjoyed. He will be current on vaccines, he is chipped, he will be heartworm tested and we feel pretty confident it will be negative. He will potty outside and understands when you tell him to go potty. He is so well mannered on a leash. Please consider this precious boy and give him a chance. We also train dogs and he will come with all the training advice and free sessions (here with us in Athens or online virtually) that you could ever need for him. His adoption fee is waived to the right home. Apply at Petpath.org

Story
My name is Redman, and I’m Nathan’s brother. Like him, I once had a home. Like him, I lost it all in one day. The only thing that got me through those frightening nights on the streets was knowing he was beside me. Together, we braved the noise, the hunger, the cold. But when we were taken to the shelter, even though we were together, I couldn’t stop shaking. I’ll be honest with you: I’m still scared. Not because I don’t want to trust, but because the world has been so unkind to me. I want to believe in good again, but I need someone who will let me learn at my own pace. Someone who will show me, day by day, that I won’t be abandoned again. I’m a three-year-old Australian Shepherd mix, about 37 pounds of gentle soul. I am not aggressive, just timid. Deep down, though, I’m so very sweet—I just need the safety and kindness to show you. My sweetness shines in small ways, like the way I watch carefully with soft eyes, or the way I long to follow when someone kind passes by. I need a calm home, maybe with another kind dog to show me the way. I would do best with adults or older children who understand that I’m still finding my footing. Whether I get adopted with Nathan or on my own, what I dream of most is the same: a place where I can exhale. A family that won’t leave me behind. A quiet corner where I can rest, knowing I am safe. Please, if you’ve ever wanted to save a soul, let it be mine. Love, Redman

Story
Penelope is a beautiful approximately 2 year-old Aussie mix. She is a sweet and loving dog that is very active and loves to run and play. She is also warm, affectionate and cuddly. A fenced yard is recommended since she loves to play outdoors in the yard. She is not fond of cats, but does well with other dogs. She is up to date on all shots and spayed. She is currently in a foster home, but truly needs a permanent family of her own that can spend active time with her. Penelope also has a medial luxating patella in one of her rear legs. This simply means her femur slides out of her knee joint periodically and then slides back in. She will limp for a few seconds and then it stops. It is common among many dogs and does not affect her health or any other aspect of her life. She runs like the wind! Email loudonk9pawsandtails@gmail.com if you are interested in meeting this sweet girl. Adoption fee is $85

Story
Gypsy is about ~5-6 years old and is an Aussie mix. She is an absolute sweetheart who loves humans and cuddles. She needs to be the only pet in the home. She loves going outside for walks and is up for adventures. She is truly a great dog but unfortunately she does not get along with our other dog. We are hoping to find her perfect home! We adopted her from a rescue and when she did she was way under weight and you could see her bones. After many vet visits we found out she has EPI. She is now happy and healthy but she requires an enzyme powder in her food everyday and this is super important. We pray God leads the right family to our Gypsy, please reach out if you believe she would be the perfect fit for you and your home!

Story
Meet Nala! This sweet girl is being fostered in east TN. She is not available out of state. She is sweet, funny, lovable, goofy and spunky. She does need a special home though because she is also fear reactive with meeting new people. She is nippy yet takes the correction when she is told not to do something. She has a lot of herding instinct in her and she is literally trying to figure you out and make sure you are not a threat. She is excellent with her people and only reacts this way with new people. She needs a bit of time to trust you before you can pet her. She will take treats but if you try to per her too soon she will let you know she is not ready for that yet. She took about 30 minutes to be ok with us. We gave a few treats and one of us was able to scratch her chin but that was the extent and we had pushed too far she was still to nervous she barked and snipped but never bit or broke skin. 20 minutes later she came to me and (Amy) and put her paw on my thigh and climbed up to me and begged for love. She was craving being loved so much she couldn’t get enough of it. It was a very emotional moment for me because I thought oh boy another one that will never be able to overcome their fear of new people, yet here she was literally melting in my arms and giving kisses and begging for affection. She was in foster care for a year with another rescue and she nipped at a visitor of the foster parents. The rescue placed her in training with a local trainer. She was literally wasting away a whole year of her life with this trainer. The other rescue did not know this was the case. She spent the majority of that year in a crate. That trainer did her no good at all, the methods she used to attempt to have Nala meet new people made Nala even more fearful than she already was. She was forced into muzzle (hey muzzles are great tools if you know how to use them correctly) and forced by leash to be handed over to other trainers whom she did not know nor was given the time to get to know and she reacted out of fear. She tried to bite them and it was quite traumatic for her to endure. She needed to be given time on a leash to see these people at a distance and learn what they were about before meeting them hands on. Here we allow her to meet new people but these people are not allowed to touch her unless we tell them it’s ok and it’s ok when Nala asks for it that is when she trusts that person. Once she trusts she is golden. Is it the best behavior for a dog to have,? absolutely not but it is her and we have done the best we can for her. She is not aggressive and per the other trainer said she should be euthanized she was unadoptable. Well here we are having met her and given her time she is a big baby and she also has met our friends and family on occasion and with proper guidance she is doing amazing. She is an excellent protective companion and very intelligent. She needs an experienced owner who can guide her when meeting new people. She will always have a home with us if she never finds that perfect home. She is truly just too amazing and loving to euthanize. She is just misunderstood and that year was more of a setback than a help to her. She is house trained. Current on vaccines, chipped, spayed and heartworm negative. She is well behaved in the home and is not destructive. She walks well on a leash and knows a few basic commands. She is as devoted and loyal as they come. If you give her the chance you will be rewarded significantly by her acceptance and love. She is worth it, her life is worth it! Apply at petpath.org

Story
🐾 Meet Koda Koda is truly one of the best dogs we’ve ever had, and making the decision to rehome her has not been easy. With my daughter leaving for college and a change in our living situation that doesn’t allow pets, we want to find Koda the loving home she deserves. 💛 Personality Koda is what we lovingly call a “Velcro dog”—she just wants to be near her people. Whether she’s curled up next to you on the couch or following you from room to room, she is incredibly affectionate and loyal. She has a great balance of energy too—she loves relaxing and cuddling, but she’s just as happy running around in an open field and playing. She loves tug of war! 🏠 Ideal Home Koda would thrive in a home where she can spend plenty of time with her people. She would do great with someone who enjoys both quiet time and outdoor play, and who wants a constant, loving companion by their side. 🐕 Training & Behavior Fully housebroken Walks well on a leash Well-behaved in the home
