Story
Meet Ross!Ross’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. Back in 2018, he and his littermates were found abandoned in a trashcan as tiny puppies. Luckily, they were rescued and given the chance to grow up surrounded by love. For years, Ross enjoyed the good life—long walks, couch snuggles, and endless belly rubs. But after seven years and life changes, his world turned upside down. When his family could no longer keep him (due to accidentally knocking over grandkids), Ross found himself back with us.When he first arrived at his foster home in early August, Ross was petrified and shut down. But with patience, gentle hands, and a calm environment, Ross began to realize he was safe again. Now, this sweet 7-year-old shepherd mix is showing his true colors:✨ He melts for belly rubs.✨ He leans in for gentle kisses.✨ He loves quiet affection and the simple comfort of being near his people.✨ LOVES walks ✨ Cannot get enough of his squeaky toysWith the help of daily medications and time to decompress, Ross has blossomed into a loving, loyal companion. He’s ready for a fresh start in a home where he can feel safe, understood, and adored.Could you be Ross’s second chance? To have your home considered for adoption, read about our adoption process or fees, and find out about interstate transport (dogs only), please visit our website.https://longwayhome.org/apply ❤ Long Way Home makes no guarantees on breed--most animals we receive from shelters are mixed breeds. As long as they need rescue, that's what is most important to us.

Story
Meet Buttercup, a 1.5-year-old double merle Australian Shepherd with deafness who is currently at Fort Bend County Animal Shelter outside of Houston, Texas. Buttercup cannot leave the shelter unless a foster or adopter steps forward—and we’re hoping that could be you. Buttercup is pure sunshine wrapped in a fluffy coat. Her deafness does not slow her down or dim her spirit one bit. She is incredibly loving, affectionate, and sweet, with a big heart for people of all ages. She adores kids, lives for cuddles and kisses, and still has plenty of playful, happy energy to share. Buttercup has previously lived successfully in a home with kids, dogs, and cats. Because she cannot hear cues, she does best with slow and thoughtful introductions to other dogs, but her nature is friendly and positive. She is potty trained and walks fairly well on leash, especially with gentle guidance and consistency. This special girl just needs a safe place to land so her rescue story can truly begin. By fostering or adopting Buttercup, you’re not just saving a life—you’re giving a deserving dog the chance to shine in the loving home she’s been waiting for.

Story
Jersey is a lively little moo-ver and shaker with a voice to match her personality. Also born on a Texas farm to an abandoned feral mama, she arrived with her siblings in rough shape and has since blossomed into a healthy, happy fluffball. Jersey is playful, vocal, and always ready to stir up a little fun in the pasture. She loves to play, chat, and keep things interesting—perfect for a family who enjoys an outgoing pup with extra “moo-tivation.”

Story
Meet Stella, our adorable Mini Australian Shepherd wiggle butt with enough bounce to power a small city! Born on 12/13/2022, Stella is a playful, spunky, and incredibly loving girl who brings joy everywhere she goes. She’s an ASDR-registered Mini Aussie who thrives outdoors and absolutely loves having a large, fenced yard where she can zoom, explore, and proudly show off her signature Aussie wiggle. Fetch is her favorite pastime, and she has energy for days, but she also has a sweet, affectionate side that shines once she’s comfortable. Stella gets along well with other pets and walks nicely on leash when wearing her harness. She can be a little shy when first meeting new people, but with a bit of patience, she quickly warms up and rewards you with kisses and happy wiggles. Stella will be up to date on vaccinations prior to adoption and will require spaying by her new owner within 60 days of adoption.

Story
Jake is the friendliest boy you will ever meet! His story is quite sad, but we're sure he's going to find his new loving home soon. Jake was an owner surrender after his owner died and the surviving family members could not keep him. Since he's been in our rescue, he's been incredibly well-behaved, quiet, and so eager to please! He adores every person he meets and does extremely well with people of all ages. Jake has been around other dogs and has done very well, but we have not tested him with cats yet. This can be done on request if interested. Jake is a medium sized dog and would do well in any type of home. He is very agile and would do great with a person/family that enjoys the outdoors but would also love to be a snuggle bug on the couch soaking in all the attention. Whatever the situation, we feel that Jake would be an amazing addition to any family! Jake is neutered, microchipped, fully vaccinated, and heartworm negative so he's ready to find his loving forever home! Please contact our rescue if you are interested in adopting or fostering. We will schedule a day/time for you to meet our adoptable animals first. If you decide to adopt or foster, we will provide an application to be approved. Once approved, an adoption or foster contract is signed. If you are fostering, you will be provided with all necessary items for the pet (food, bowls, crate, collar, leash, etc.). If adopting, we require an adoption fee that covers a portion of the cost of veterinary care. This is fully refundable for the life of the pet should the adoption fall through at any point. We will always take our pets back regardless of the situation.
