Story
In 2023 I adopted Max when he was 2 years old, he is now 4! His birthday is September 4th, 2021. He has a ton of energy so someone who is active is ideal. I would like to see Max be able to have a yard where he can play and have an owner that will be able to keep up with his active lifestyle!

Story
Approximate Age: 1 year Approximate Weight: 39 lbs Meet Ice 🧊 They call me Ice Blue in my foster home because of my beautiful blue eyes. I am full of love and an overall fun guy. I’m still young so have lots of energy. I love playing with toys, especially ones I can squeak and shake around. I haven’t met a ball I don’t like and will play fetch for hours if you will play with me. I know some commands and walk pretty good on a leash but could always use more practice with it. I’m searching for a family who is active or will let me get my energy out in a fun way. I get along with everyone I’ve met and while my foster home doesn’t have kids, if they will play with me, I’ll probably love them too. I haven’t met cats but I have met chickens and ducks and while they were new to me, I left them alone because they were kinda scary. I like dogs too - just make sure they give me a little space when we first meet because I need confidence to interact appropriately. I don’t love being in a crate but I will sleep in one throughout the night if it has a comfy blanket. I also keep my crate clean and know my potty manners. I haven’t had any accidents in the house and always use my outside time to relieve myself. I’m a bit picky about food. I like the good stuff (aka wet food) and take my time eating. I’m more interested in playing so I will need to learn your routine to understand that I can’t take all day to eat my breakfast. Right now I’m eating beef but I can probably adjust to any high quality food. Please give me a chance to be your new best friend. I promise to give you lots of love, snuggles and good times in return! ********************************************************************* Schedule a meet-and-greet by completing our Adoption Survey on the Adopt page of our website at https://www.olddominionhumanesociety.org/adoption-survey. Story
Marmaduke is a big goofy lovebug! He adores children and other dogs. He is very curious about cats and chickens and is probably best in a home without those (or where he can be separated from them). He is only about 1 year old and has been in rescue all his life. He had a medical issue as a puppy that required surgery and he is completely healed from that. He will do best in a home with a secure fenced yard, another dog or dogs to play with that are not tiny since he's so big, and respectful animal-loving children that will love him as much as he loves them. If you are interested in Marmaduke, please fill out an application at our website: forrescue.net He is fostered in the Huntsville, AL area and could be available for transport but transport fees are on top of the adoption fee.

Story
Blue is an 8-year-old Australian Shepherd with a classic good looks and an eager-to-please attitude. He was originally adopted from Green Dogs Unleashed and has spent the last several years living happily alongside another Aussie. Due to medical challenges with the other dog in the home, Blue is now looking for a new place to land where he can get the attention and care he deserves. Blue is house trained, has basic recall, and walks nicely on a loose leash. He tolerates car rides well and is reported to be a big fan of frisbee and fetch, having even competed in a disc dog competition. He enjoys being engaged with his people and thrives on interaction and routine. Because Blue has lived in a fairly consistent environment, we are still learning about his preferences with kids, cats, and other dogs. Thoughtful introductions and a calm, structured home will help set him up for success. Blue would be a great match for someone who appreciates the loyal, active, and intelligent nature of the Aussie breed and wants a companion who is past the puppy stage but still ready to play. If you are looking for a devoted buddy who is happy to fetch a frisbee and walk by your side, Blue might be your guy. At Green Dogs Unleashed (GDU), we are dedicated to ensuring the successful placement of our dogs in loving, permanent homes. Over the years, we have seen an increasing number of returns due to behavioral issues that could have been prevented with the right support. A significant percentage of these returns involve out-of-area clients or those who have not completed training with GDU. To address this, positive reinforcement training with Green Dogs Unleashed is required as a condition for all adoptions. Preference for this dog will be given to adopters who commit to signing up for and completing our six-week Canine 101 training class in person at our headquarters in Troy, VA. Secondary consideration will be given to a limited number of out-of-area adopters who agree to complete one private lesson with GDU, either in person or virtually, and attend a pre-approved positive reinforcement training class in their area. At the time you are seeing this post, this dog is still available for adoption. But please know that we may be working on multiple applications already, and any one of them could be approved at any time. Please READ THIS ENTIRE DESCRIPTION and complete an adoption application, if you are interested in any of our animals. Application at www.greendogsunleashed.org If you send an inquiry to ask if the dog is still available, or just tell us you are interested, your inquiry will not be answered. FILL OUT AN APPLICATION. We can do NOTHING without that. No, we cannot tell you if he would be a match for your family without seeing an application. PLEASE KEEP READING for info. */*/* PLEASE NOTE: The first communication you will receive after completing an application will be an email response, which will have instructions on how to proceed. Please check your inbox AND spam folders for the next 48 hours, for this email. We will not begin processing an application without the information requested in that email. */*/* We are happy to consider applicants from out of state on most dogs. Please read the description to see if this dog is an exception. If the applicant is approved to adopt, they MUST be willing to come to our location in Troy, VA, for a meet and greet. If all parties agree that the pup and family are a good fit, they would take the pup home at that time. For more information about our mission and for an APPLICATION for adoption, please go to www.greendogsunleashed.com. GDU does ask a minimum adoption fee of $400.00. This does not even come close to covering all expenses created by animals while in rescue. We are funded solely by the angels and volunteers willing to donate time and finances. This minimum fee includes DAPP, rabies if age appropriate,, heartworm test and preventative, if age appropriate, and flea and tick treatment, as well as neutering or spaying, if the animal is medically sound to undergo surgery. In an attempt to avoid tummy upset from a sudden change of food, the foster family may include a small, transitional bag of the food the dog/puppy has been eating. And if the dog/puppy has grown attached to a special item (like a toy or blanket), they may send that along, as well. */*/* Young puppies will receive age-appropriate vaccines, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Adopters may be required to provide additional puppy boosters and at 16 weeks of age, a rabies vaccine. Future annual vaccines, testing and monthly heartworm preventative are REQUIRED, and will be the financial responsibility of the adopter. *****Due to the sheer number of animals and applications in our program, coupled with a limited number of volunteers, applicants MUST have patience as we process applications.   If you do not hear back from us, the animal may have been adopted.   We strive to let people know but sadly cannot offer reasons for denial beyond that.  Any harassment of our volunteers will go unanswered and we will simply block you.   Our volunteers spend their time working hard to ensure the very best for each animal.   Please remember the animal, not the applicant, is our client.*****  ##2608744##

Story
BJ is a 10-month-old purebred Australian Shepherd with a big personality and an even bigger love for life. He happens to be deaf, but that does not slow him down one bit. BJ is incredibly smart, learns fast, and is already house trained and crate trained. This guy is social and friendly across the board. He is great with other dogs, fine with cats, and absolutely loves kids. True to his age and breed, BJ is bouncy like a little tiger and brings joyful, enthusiastic energy to everything he does. He would thrive in an active home or with another young, playful dog who can match his zest for fun. BJ truly shines when it comes to play and activities. He excels at disc and will happily chase, catch, and retrieve right back to hand. He would be an amazing companion for someone who enjoys staying active and wants a dog who is eager to participate in adventures, training, and enrichment. BJ is neutered, current on vaccines, and ready to find a home that embraces his energy, intelligence, and joyful spirit. If you are looking for a fun, athletic, and affectionate partner who is always up for doing things together, BJ may be your perfect match. Story
Willow is an Australian Shepherd who was born this summer and adopted from a family that breeds this breed. He is a sweet, full-of-love dog with LOTS of energy. He gets along well with other dogs. We are rehoming Willow because my husband and I work a lot and do not have the time to give Willow the attention he deserves. We are hopeful Willow can find a home where he can run around and explore while getting all of his energy out!
