Story
Homer is a high-energy hound and one of the sweetest and most affectionate dogs you’ll ever meet. He needs time and space to run around, then he’ll be happy napping on a dog bed - or ideally, your lap - once he’s given his nose and legs a workout. He is good with other dogs and a velcro dog with his human. Homer is a favorite among the counselors at doggie day care and well-known at the dog park, where he does not stop running or baying  – and the other dogs follow.  He’s a quick learner/treat-motivated  and picked up “sit” right away. He does not bark much in the house. He will bark on walks and at the park, but he’s learning “quiet” and some leash training to help with pulling. He is house-trained, fine being crated, and loves a car ride where he can stick his nose out of the window and take in all of the smells.  The main thing is that Homer needs a yard or lots of opportunity to work off his energy, which we do not have. If you’re able to give him that, then you’ve got a wonderful companion and new best friend! He is 2-3 years old, neutered, HW - negative, and up to date on all shots (including flu vaccine required by some doggie day cares). Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. Should the match turn out less than perfect, or if you are unwilling or unable to care for an adopted animal, the Louisa Humane Society will take the animal back into our care. ##1672518##

Story
Meet wonderful Betsy (Shay) Betsy is approx a 2-year-old coonhound who was found as a Stray and hugely emaciated. She was picked up by her local area Animal Control and transferred to our rescue. She was immediately put on a feeding schedule and slowly nursed back to a healthier weight and better spirits. From there she has been vetted several times and all her vaccines bought current. Microchip and now cleared to be spayed. Betsy is a love bug but does require some patience with her manners as she continues to learn more and more every day what they are. She is learning to be house-trained (we are working on that) but does use pee pads. Betsy does this strange act before going poop - it's interesting why she does it, but it works for her. She likes to jump several times before pooping and then she goes. That's her Quirkiness! Nonetheless, it is as if this little lady had never been in a house before, but she is totally without a doubt an awesome dog who just needs someone that will continue to work with her and love her unconditionally. She deserves that! She is beautiful and just wants your love. She is very dog friendly, very cat friendly, and all ages of people friendly too. Her downside is she loves to run, but what coonhound doesn't? So, she'll need a nice fence area to stretch her legs and get all her wiggles out, then she'll be ready for in-house good behavior. She also is learning to walk on a leash and needs more work with patience and listening, but does much better if she is walked with a companion canine. Whoever had this little lady before just didn't work with her much. However, she plays like a puppy and loves her toys, and is very treat motivated so, definitely trainable and smart too. If you are looking for a great and awesome active, never dull-moment companion - look no further, Betsy is your girl. She is scheduled to be spayed in Jan 2023 now that she has been cleared for surgery, her rescue will take care of that for her adopter/s. She is microchipped and heart-worm negative and on monthly preventative too. Betsy is another favorite among the rescue - she just needs a forever family she can never again be neglected or starved and enjoy life being a loyal dog as it should be. If interested in Betsy, please see our website: https://serendipityanimalrescue.org for adoption, foster application, sponsor, donate, or info.

Story
Meet Chicken! This stunning guy is estimated around 6 years old. He is currently in boarding and needs a foster or forever home! Chicken loves to run with other dogs in the yard. He is very people and dog friendly. He hasn't met cats or kids yet. Chicken keeps his kennel clean so he would likely be potty trained or nearly potty trained in a home. He is working on his leash manners. He would love another dog in the home but doesn't really need one. He would make a great walking/hiking partner! He's also quite good at napping after some exercise! Apply to adopt here: https://www.dogsdeservebetterblueridge.org/adoption-application

Story
Meet Ruby! Ruby came into rescue VERY pregnant. She was an excellent mom and naturally weaned all her pups. Now her pups are going onto their new lives and Ruby needs her own forever home! She is estimated at about 3 years old. She's a very easy going girl, allows nail trims, ear cleaning and all the pokes and prods of the vet without complaint. She will try to sneak into the car when you open the door so we think she probably loves car rides! Ruby appears to be house trained and non-destructive when left alone. She is dog friendly but not suitable for a home with cats. Ruby needs a month or so for her mammary glands to go down before she can be spayed. That will be done before her adoption can be finalized. She is ready for a foster or foster to adopt home now though! Apply here: https://www.dogsdeservebetterblueridge.org/adoption-application (**All of Ruby's puppies have placement and are NOT available.**)
