Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.   UPDATE 7/31/22: Felix the Walker hound is a good-times boy, looking for someone to yodel with him and take him to explore the wilds. His enthusiasm is inspiring. He has the heart to be an all-day hiking companion, or a partner for dedicated runners. He is an athlete! With a little direction, Felix could be a serious contender in a variety of dog sports such as Lure coursing, Tracking, Agility, Fly ball. His general good nature toward dogs and people add to his great potential. Food and toys work as positive motivators for him to accomplish tasks. Felix is already learning leash manners and how to wait politely. He is respectful of items in his room and is trying to keep his space clean.Sadly, this lanky (53 pounds @3 years old) hound was left running free to fend for himself, before he ended up with us. Now, he has been neutered, vaccinated, and wormed. With good meals, he has gained needed weight. Heartworm and tick-borne disease testing will be completed soon. He shows his good nature every day by being friendly with all of Almost Home’s staff (even a staff member’s child), volunteers and visitors. He seems interested in becoming friends with most of our other dogs. When introduced to our cats, Felix shrank away in fear. Mostly, he behaves in a confident way and seems to enjoy every breath he takes.Felix would do best with people who enjoy leading a dog through basic training, who like active athletic hounds, who don’t mind dogs that can sometimes be vocal, who have another dog that enjoys interacting with other dogs, who have a fenced area or large and safe open area where he can run while supervised, who enjoy training dogs for fun dog activities. If you can’t resist the tight muscles of a hound ready to go, his nose vibrant to scents, a happy howl thrown to the wind just for the joy of it, Felix won’t disappoint. He will be available for adoption soon.Felix the Walker hound is a good-times boy, looking for someone to yodel with him and take him to explore the wilds. His enthusiasm is inspiring. Story
ASK NOT WHAT THIS HOUND CAN DO FOR YOU, BUT WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR THIS HOUND. Harry Neil is a 10 year old walker hound who recently came to us when we was not longer wanted to hunting. Having lived life on a chain, Harry Neil is now enjoying romping in a fenced yard, interacting with other dogs in his foster home and soaking up all the attention. Harry is kind and quiet and surpisingly petite! The mass on his face is a damaged salivary gland. Nothing can be done for it but it does not hurt or bother him. Henry is looking for a compassionate family who understands that he missed out on a lot of things while pursing a career in hunting. He will need extra support with house traing and basic manners. Henry Neil deserves a comfy home with a wonderful family to enjoy the rest of his life! He'll pay you in kindness and gratitude. (We do not recommend hunting hounds for homes with cats.) A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Harry Neil, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Augusta Dog Adoptions is an all- volunteer, foster- based rescue. We take applications online and schedule adoptions in Waynesboro, VA. A $175.00 adoption fee ($300 for puppies under 6 months old) helps us take care of all the dogs we rescue. All dogs are spayed/neutered, tested for heartworm and tick borne diseases (if old enough), microchipped, and vaccinated for rabies (if old enough), distemper/parvo and bordetella. They are also treated for internal and external parasites. Many dogs also receive extensive medical care such as dental work and major surgeries. Story
Meet Bubba! This good natured, goof ball is ready for a home to call his own! He adores being the center of attention and lives to make is humans happy. He's a very good boy who would be a wonderful addtional to almost any family. Bubba is crate and house trained and has good house manners. He won't tear up your shoes or steal your leftover pizza off the counter....but he won't turn down a bite if you offer it to him. I mean, look that bod! He is good on leash and easy to walk around the block or on a hike. He's in a foster home with lots of other dogs and is great with almost all of them! In his free time, he enjoys sitting on the couch watching cooking shows. We know that Bubba is a good boy and hope there is an adopter out there who will see it too! Bubba has been waiting for over a year to be chosen. A reduced adoption fee of $100 does apply for Bubba, our seniors, special medical and behavioral needs dogs and other "slow to adopt" dogs! Story
Hey there, I'm Paul Rudd, the charming and resilient hound looking for a hero to save the day! Life hasn't been easy for me since I found myself at the shelter, but I'm ready to turn a new leaf and become the superhero of your heart. At around 3 years old, I'm a Treeing Walker Coonhound with a tail-wagging personality and a heart of gold. Despite my rough start, I'm as friendly as can be once I warm up to you. I may be a bit timid at first, but give me a chance and watch me shine! I'm all hound, with a nose for adventure and a voice that's music to your ears. While I'm good with medium to large-sized dogs, I'm afraid I can't share my home with cats or other small animals - I like to keep my superhero lair peaceful and serene. Plus, I've never experienced the comforts of indoor living, so I'll need a patient adopter who can help me learn the ropes of being a house hound. If you're ready to embark on an epic adventure with a lovable sidekick by your side, I'm your guy! Let's team up and save the day together! My adoption fee is $175, which covers all of my vetting. If you would like more information on me, please give SVASC a call at (540) 943-5142, email SVASC at ewiles@co.augusta.va.us, or stop by during open hours and ask for Paul Rudd!

Story
Today we have Ollie, a young strapping man who LOVES kids and other dogs of all sizes.  One of those guys who doesn't know exactly how big he is but makes up for his clumsiness in cuddles.  Great a helping clean the kitchen counters and floor (food driven) or training others to keep them clean, enjoys laundry day (warm towels and sheets are the best), is even a great singer!  Ollie will greet you slippers in mouth when you get home, maybe a blanket some days.  Don't let this sweetie pie get away! Adoption Process If you are ready to meet the pet, please fill out an online adoption application by copying and pasting the following link into your internet browser: https://www.petstablished.com/adoption_form/10666/generic Once your application is submitted, we will contact the vet reference provided. If you do not yet have a vet, please provide three personal references – these could be family and friends who can attest to your pet parenting skills. A volunteer will schedule a phone interview with you. The interview and application help our fosters find their forever home by ensuring a good match.   The Louisa Humane Society does not have a brick and mortar facility, so all of our pets are in foster care. Once approved, the foster parent will reach out to arrange a visit. The foster family can tell you all about her likes, dislikes, and little quirks.  The application and visit do not oblige you to adopt, but if you’re ready to take the pet home as your furry forever friend, the adoption fee is $150. ##1625038##
