Story
Unlike her namesake, Garbo would never say “I want to be alone.” Garbo is a one-year old girl who loves running and playing with her doggy friends and then snuggling up to her humans. At her boarding facility, Garbo is known as a “love bug.”   Garbo loves playing with other dogs, and especially enjoys other dogs who love to run and play. Garbo likes to be around her humans or other dogs, and is happiest when she has a dog or human companion nearby.   Garbo is mostly an English Setter and has a fair amount of the prey drive English Setters are known for. Those who have been around Garbo think she may be mixed with a dash of Border Collie. She may be OK with cats, but would need supervision and slow acclimation in a home with cats to make sure.   Garbo needs all the things that an active young dog needs – lots of people time and training, plenty of exercise and stimulation, and an active resident dog in her adoptive home. Garbo will not be happy as an only dog. She also needs a securely fenced yard with a 6’ fence to keep her safe. Garbo is not a candidate for a home with children.   If Garbo has one fault, it is loving food too much to share. She guards her food. Because of this issue, her adopter will need to be careful with either dog or human food. Food guarding is not uncommon in rescued dogs and is an issue that can be worked with, and sometimes eliminated.   Garbo is crate-trained and appears to be house trained. She has basic obedience training, but is a willing student who needs to learn more. She is fully vetted and ready for a foster-to-adopt or adoptive home. Currently, Garbo is in a boarding facility near Salt Lake City.  July 25, 2024, 11:09 am

Story
TJ is 4 years young and a smaller field boy at about 40 lbs. He is a sweet, shy, sensitive Velcro boy. His first owner was a hunter who passed away. Then he went to another hunting kennel where it was determined that TJ is not a hunter and they contacted rescue to find him a non-hunting home as a pet/family member.  TJ is looking for a calmer quiet home. Another active dog for him to run and play with would be ideal and would help him settle into a new home. Since he previously lived in hunting kennels, he’s never been an only dog. A home with kids would be too loud and unpredictable for him. He is affectionate and appreciates cuddles and physical assurances that everything is ok.  TJ needs a home with a secure physically fenced yard that is large enough and interesting for him to run/work/explore/play with another active dog buddy. His foster Dad says “he is lightning fast”. He has a typical prey drive for an field ES and has never lived with cats so we do not expect him to be safe with cats.   TJ has adapted to being a house dog well. He is eager to learn, wants to please and is treat motivated. July 25, 2024, 11:09 am

Good with cats,
Story
Syma is a 9.5 year young strikingly handsome boy who was left behind at a hunting ranch when it was sold. The new owner reached out to rescue and this boy is lucky enough to be fostered by very experienced people in New Mexico. In addition to the couple and their adult son, he also lives with four other dogs, both male and female and gets along with everyone; he even gets along with small dogs.  Cats are an unknown as there are no cats in his current foster home.  Syma has won the hearts of the humans in the home and thinks he is a lap dog.  He is very confident when out and about as his mom works at a vet clinic and he has gone to work with her on several occasions. He greets strangers and dogs enthusiastically and he acclimated quickly to his new home. Foster mom says he is very birdy and needs to be supervised when outside. He needs at least a 5′ fenced yard to be safe. Syma’s recall is uncertain, but he does come when called from the yard; usually he is following the other dogs inside the house.  He is a very sensitive dog and his foster mom says he would not be a candidate for an “E” collar. He is working on leash training and currently uses a harness. He does need daily walks, but he is not a candidate for an apartment.  He is a very quick learner and wants to please; he is also treat motivated.  Syma is neutered, fully vaccinated and crate trained; he enjoys a Kong or Nylabone to chew on while crated.  Syma is a dream dog and only barks when he needs to go out.  Would you like to open your heart and home to this special boy who lived most of his life as an outside ranch dog and is now enjoying the well deserved life of a rescue dog in a wonderful home?July 25, 2024, 11:09 am

Story
Kris is a very handsome 7 1/2 year young, long and lean orange and white pup that was left in a rural shelter.  The shelter contacted SWESR and he was brought  into rescue.  He had skin issues, probably a flea allergy since he was infested, and was a tad underweight.  He has gained just a bit of weight and his coat is soft and fluffy now. Kris is doing great in foster care and he is crate and house trained.   He is interested in cats and may chase if he encounters one that runs from him.   Kris pulls on leash and would really benefit from some leash training.  He is walking better using an Easy Leash harness. He enjoys furniture privileges and sleeps in bed with his foster human at night.  He very gratefully settles in and seldom moves throughout the night.  Kris seems to get along with most other dogs and plays very happily with the other two neutered male Setters in his foster home.  He came from a family that had two female Setters and they got along well.   Kris does have the capability to climb any fence.  He scales chain link like it is a ladder and has gotten over a 6 foot stockade fence.  The problem is easily solved by going outside with him. He cannot be left alone outdoors ever, even with other dogs.  Kris will need a human to watch him.  He is very sensitive and will come when you call him as he doesn’t want to disappoint you.  He is on the high-medium level of setter activity.  Kris would make a good running mate but he settles easily in the house.  He is very funny and playful with the other dogs and doesn’t mind curling up next to them for a spot on the sofa.  His favorite place to be is next to the human in the house though.  Kris is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He is in a foster home in Edmond, OK. Won’t you consider Kris for your next family member?July 25, 2024, 11:09 am

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Forrest is a friendly, loyal 6 year old male, neutered English Setter. He is a velcro dog that will bond strongly with his primary caregiver. He would not mind being an only dog and would prefer a family that is not away from home more than 4 hours per day. He is house-trained and crate-trained. His energy level is typical of his breed, and he requires a securely fenced yard to run and explore. Forrest is not a candidate for a home with children under 18.  Forrest is friendly around other dogs, although he is not fond of pushy dogs and prefers companions that are a little bit introverted, like himself. He is focused on his people and would do fine as an only dog so he can get lots of attention. He has not been tested around cats.  Forrest will self-exercise in his yard, exploring the perimeter and looking for birds. He is happiest outside with his human watching him. He also likes toys and playing in the baby pool. Forrest would like a family that will allow him to snuggle with them on the furniture.  Forrest is a pretty low-maintenance pet, however he does experience some anxiety during thunderstorms. He also needs to eat grain-free food to prevent food allergies. Typical for an English Setter, Forrest is an escape artist and will take advantage of open doors and gates to take off on an unsupervised run! His future family should take precautions with doors in order to keep him safe.  Forrest is currently being fostered near Austin, TX and is up to date on all of his vaccinations.July 25, 2024, 11:09 am
