Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Unlike her namesake, Garbo would never say “I want to be alone.” Garbo is a one-year old girl who loves running and playing with her doggy friends and then snuggling up to her humans. At her boarding facility, Garbo is known as a “love bug.”   Garbo loves playing with other dogs, and especially enjoys other dogs who love to run and play. Garbo likes to be around her humans or other dogs, and is happiest when she has a dog or human companion nearby.   Garbo is mostly an English Setter and has a fair amount of the prey drive English Setters are known for. Those who have been around Garbo think she may be mixed with a dash of Border Collie. She may be OK with cats, but would need supervision and slow acclimation in a home with cats to make sure.   Garbo needs all the things that an active young dog needs – lots of people time and training, plenty of exercise and stimulation, and an active resident dog in her adoptive home. Garbo will not be happy as an only dog. She also needs a securely fenced yard with a 6’ fence to keep her safe. Garbo is not a candidate for a home with children.   If Garbo has one fault, it is loving food too much to share. She guards her food. Because of this issue, her adopter will need to be careful with either dog or human food. Food guarding is not uncommon in rescued dogs and is an issue that can be worked with, and sometimes eliminated.   Garbo is crate-trained and appears to be house trained. She has basic obedience training, but is a willing student who needs to learn more. She is fully vetted and ready for a foster-to-adopt or adoptive home. Currently, Garbo is in a boarding facility near Salt Lake City.  September 27, 2023, 3:54 pm

Story
TJ is 4 years young and a smaller field boy at about 40 lbs. He is a sweet, shy, sensitive Velcro boy. His first owner was a hunter who passed away. Then he went to another hunting kennel where it was determined that TJ is not a hunter and they contacted rescue to find him a non-hunting home as a pet/family member.  TJ is looking for a calmer quiet home. Another active dog for him to run and play with would be ideal and would help him settle into a new home. Since he previously lived in hunting kennels, he’s never been an only dog. A home with kids would be too loud and unpredictable for him. He is affectionate and appreciates cuddles and physical assurances that everything is ok.  TJ needs a home with a secure physically fenced yard that is large enough and interesting for him to run/work/explore/play with another active dog buddy. His foster Dad says “he is lightning fast”. He has a typical prey drive for an field ES and has never lived with cats so we do not expect him to be safe with cats.   TJ has adapted to being a house dog well. He is eager to learn, wants to please and is treat motivated. September 27, 2023, 3:54 pm

Good with dogs,
Story
Hey Stella!!! Look who is ready for her furever home! She is literally rooooo-ing for you to find her and bring her home! If you are looking for an active, young (4 yrs), sweet, submissive, high prey drive, beautiful little pocket Setter then Stella might be just the one for you. Like many young ES this girl is B-U-S-Y and needs a good sized, setter-interesting, physically fenced yard with at least 6 foot no climb fencing to ensure she has a safe and secure place to self-exercise many times a day. At a recent pool party she logged over 100,000 steps in one day, our current SWESR dog record holder for steps in one day! And she was ready to go back the next day! She might climb a tree if given the right tree and opportunity. At the pool party her solution to being hot was to hop 3 feet into the air and into the Intex Pop Up Pool and climb back out when she was finished with her dip. Experienced field ES people will understand exactly what Stella needs and are sure to be delighted with this amazing little girl as long as you have an active lifestyle and the right property/containment for her. Stella started out as a hunting dog and lots of time and money was spent preparing her for this career. But alas, she is terrified of gunfire and didn’t understand the expectations that she should stay with you or come back to you. Stella is excellent with other dogs of all sizes and breeds and would appreciate another active dog in her new home to run and play with. She is learning the joys of being a house dog and joining in the pile of dogs on the couch after a busy day of running off the setter crazy. As busy as she is, after the sun goes down, Stella nicely flips that switch to sleepy time. Stella is far too active/busy for a home with young children and with older children (9+ years), your home must be very secure from the opportunity to bolt out of a door or gate. She is crate trained and housetraining is going well with supervision, understanding her signals and repetition. Stella is spayed, up-to-date on vaccines and tests, on heartworm preventative and wearing a Fi GPS collar. September 27, 2023, 3:54 pm

Not good with kids, Good with dogs, Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Chipper is a happy, active, 3.5 year-old, neutered male Great Pyrenees /  English Setter mix. Chipper is not a candidate for homes with children or cats. He is currently only available for adoption in the state of Texas, and he would prefer a home where he is not left alone for more than 4-6 hours at a time.  Chipper loves to run and play with other dogs. He needs a home with another playful dog who enjoys chasing and wrestling.  Chipper inherited a protective, guardian personality from his Great Pyrenees ancestors and barks when he is alerted to activity outside of his home. He is wary of strangers in his house, so he is crated when repairmen are working in his foster home.  A securely fenced yard is a must for Chipper because he can be stubborn and will not always come when called. Chipper had surgery on his right, rear knee to fix a dislocated knee cap (patella luxation). He initially had a grade 4 luxation that required surgery to fix. He currently has a grade 2 luxation that does not require further surgery. This means that Chipper has some scar tissue and stiffness in his knee and has a slight limp when he walks on his right rear leg. He is able to play, jump, and run like a normal young dog. He will lay down and take breaks from playing when his knee gets tired. Caution should be used during activities that will require sustained activity, such as hiking or jogging on leash, but otherwise Chipper’s injury does not impede his movement or quality of life.  Chipper likes people and enjoys affection. After plenty of exercise, Chipper is calm in the house and normally chooses to rest on a dog bed or the floor. From time to time he will sit on the couch with the humans. Chipper does not enjoy sharing his bed with other dogs. He rides quietly in the car, but sometimes needs to be lifted in at first. Chipper does not like to share his food with other dogs and should be fed and given treats separately from other pets. Chipper is crate trained and rests quietly in his crate when left alone. Chipper is potty-trained and knows how to use a doggy-door. He is head-shy and does not like having his collar grabbed. Chipper’s family will get the best results from using positive reinforcement training and avoiding harsh discipline, because Chipper is very sensitive.  Chipper will do best in a home with lots of structure and love and with at least one other friendly dog. If you are looking for a fun, loyal companion Chipper may be the right dog for you! Chipper is in a foster home near Austin, TX and is current on all of his vaccinations.   September 27, 2023, 3:54 pm

Story
Liam is a  5 year young,  55 lb, happy,  strong  field English Setter. He  has come to love cuddles from his foster Mom and will crawl in my lap. Furniture privileges are a must for this physical teddy-bear boy.  He  is looking for  a calm, patient and experienced home . Living inside is a completely new world to him, he looks all around like a young kid experiencing  sights and sounds  for the first time, in awe and  sometimes  not sure what to think.  He will retreat to his crate or a cubby hole in my office if a noise scares him or he needs a quiet place. For this reason, he is not a candidate for a busy home with kids.  Liam is still learning house manners and  watching for his cues is important.  If he’s been outside to potty, he will not hike his leg in the house. But if he hasn’t been outside for several hours he  will come to you and pace when he needs to go out . Supervision, belly bands and regular potty breaks are important. Liam excels at learning the routine of the house quickly and fitting right in with the pack.  He is learning to  use his voice when he has something to say. He’ll talk to people walking dogs on his street, to a bird in the tree ,  and to his foster Mom when  he wants something.  Liam LOVES toys, both inside and outside, his favorites are durable toys he can chew.  Liam needs a home with secure  5  foot fencing. I’m not sure if he would actually go over a shorter fence but he does go vertical on fences to get a better look at something and he can look over shorter fences. That coupled with his typical ES prey drive makes me think  sturdy 5  foot fences are best for his safety and security. A Setter-interesting yard is a must for Liam. He LOVES working the yard, self exercis ing and running and playing with another dog or toys. He is happy in a stimulating outside environment, and he has a constant Setter smile when he’s outside doing his thing. He is not a candidate for an apartment or a home without a physical fence. Liam is a  solid, strong  boy so he’ll need a person that is steady on their feet and can work on his leash training .  Liam’s dog social skills are good. He joined a foster home with another foster dog that  does not have good  doggy social skills and triggers to a scuffle very easily. So the two boys only met through a crate or a fence for the first days after Liam arrived and by the time they were introduced outside Liam was very respectful of the other dog’s space. After about a month, the boys are BFFs that run and play together and when the other foster dog triggers into inappropriate behavior, Liam does not react.  The two boys play is very physical, Liam’s play buddy is a 40 lb ES. Sometimes Liam will crouch and wait for Ike to run by so he can intercept him.  Another active and playful dog  that is 40+ lbs  in the home  would help  Liam’s  happiness and integration into his new home. Liam does not need a home with ES experience, but he does need a home that has experience with bigger dogs.  He’s a bit much for the two smaller and senior ES females in his foster home and he’s learned to stay out of their way and vice versa.  We don’t know if Liam previously lived with cats, we speculate that he had some experience with cats. He was interested in a waggy tail kind of way  initially.  It only took a couple of weeks for the bossy cat in the home to train him in proper cat etiquette, which is leave us alone. We think he will be fine with slow/proper intros to cats in a home where the cats do not run/hide. We do not think he would be safe with outside cats.  Liam is an  AMAZING dog and in the right home he will blossom and thrive. Liam is neutered, microchipped and up to date on vaccinations. He is in a foster home near San Antonio, TX. September 27, 2023, 3:54 pm

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Cooper was adopted from us as a puppy and his adopters did not take care of him. He is now an energetic lad that LOVES his humans and dogs his size that have his energy level. His ideal home is a farm or ranch that has a securely fenced area where he cannot escape. He would love to just hang out to be part of all the daily action. He does like older children that can handle his energy level. He loves toys and chew toys and bones. He will benefit from some dog training and daily exercise. He cannot be in a home with cats as his energy level is too much for them.

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
I am Rubble. I was found on the highway and I'm the only survivor in my family of distemper. I do have twitches from the distemper but I am otherwise healthy and a typical puppy. I will require an active family in an owned home with a securely fenced yard ideally with someone who has Boxer/Retriever mix experience. I would do well with a family with another dog and children. I will require some training and daily meds. I have such a sweet, lovable personality. Fill out an application online to claim me as yours.
