Story
Bea is a gentle, quiet, and calm companion. She is still learning how to be a dog and is slowly coming out of her shell more each day. Right now, Bea is most often found lounging on her dog bed and quietly following me around the house. She deserves a quiet home she can learn to trust. Email BARCfoster@houstontx.gov to get to know more about her!

Story
Hello, gorgeous girl… meet Dolly Mae   Dolly Mae is a sweet, gentle mama who was turned into the shelter with her five tiny puppies because her owners said they “had too many animals”… words we hear far too often.   One of her babies was baby Socks… the sweet boy we tried so hard to save, but lost in less than 24 hours.   After that, we asked about Dolly Mae and her other puppies, hoping to bring them to safety too… but we were told we couldn’t take them because of the shelter’s adoption event — they were “adoption only.”   So we waited. We watched closely.   One by one, her puppies were chosen… all adopted on the very first day. But not Dolly Mae. And honestly… she shouldn’t have even been there. This mama doesn’t need a busy adoption floor — she needs rest, healing, and someone to finally take care of her. It’s so clear her body has been through far too much. When we finally got the okay to take her, we didn’t hesitate. This morning, Dolly Mae walked out of the shelter and into safety.   She’s now decompressing at our trainer’s home, and she is everything you could hope for — incredibly sweet, loving, and just wants to be by your side, giving hugs and kisses. But there’s still a quiet sadness in her eyes… You can tell she’s looking for her babies. They were only 6 weeks old — she wasn’t ready to say goodbye.   Dolly Mae is only about 2 years old, a petite Aussie mix at 26 pounds (should be closer to 30–35 healthy). She has her whole life ahead of her, and we are determined to make it a good one. Right now, she needs a soft place to land while she heals. A foster home is needed, or even a foster-to-adopt. Let's give this sweet mama the love she's always deserved!    May 19, 2026, 12:50 am

Story
UNTIED FROM A TREE TO UNLEASH HER LOVE AND DEVOTION  DOB 4/1/21, weight 54# Hey there, everyone! I’m Isha, a very sweet, outgoing, and eager-to-please black Border Collie/ shepherd mix gal with a white dot on my chest who socializes with everyone – adults, kids, and medium/ large dogs as well as cats and small dogs as long as we’re properly introduced. From my outward appearance, it looks like my canine heritage has been herding sheep, and although I haven’t found any sheep in Houston, I have inherited the shepherdess’ intelligence, intense loyalty, devotion to duty, and untiring work ethic. I humbly believe that those four qualities make me the perfect canine companion! My previous owners kept me in their yard, tied to a tree where my friendly energy was suppressed. I was miserable, but thank heavens, the gardener noticed my plight and convinced my owner to surrender me to HOPE because they could find a family who would provide me a more enriched life. I’m so much happier interacting with all the people, dogs, and cats in my foster home as well as whom I meet on my daily walks! I’m proud to say that leash-training, housetraining, and kennel-training were all a snap. (Remember I told you that I’m very intelligent – just give me a job to do!) Now I’m ready to bring my sweet affection, lithe agility, and intrinsic devotion to bless my forever family. Could that be you? Arrange to meet me today! I’m eager to be your perfect canine chum and to enrich your life as well as mine! HOPE ID D26-0325-0017 Isha’s $200 adoption fee includes spay/neuter, basic vaccines, microchip and registration, testing for heartworms, negative fecal test, and preventative treatment for heartworms and fleas. To apply online:http://www.homelesspets.net/adoption-forms/dog-adoption.php If you have questions prior to filling out the application or want to find out which adoption site that Isha will be this weekend, email us at lisagilchrist16@gmail.com, and a volunteer will get back to you May 18, 2026, 12:12 pm
