Story
Meet Mae – the sweet, enthusiastic little sister every dog pack loves. Mae is young, playful, affectionate, and incredibly social. She blends beautifully into new environments and families, and is the kind of dog who brings joy wherever she goes.
Dog Social Skills
Mae is a social butterfly who loves other dogs. She is friendly, energetic, and excited to play, though sometimes a little overeager in her attempts to get everyone involved. She is respectful and submissive, and if another dog tells her they’re not interested, she quickly gives them space. Mae has successfully interacted with dogs ranging from 10-pound Chihuahuas to 80-pound Akitas and gets along well with all.
She is excellent on leash and stays close, naturally correcting her position without pulling or criss-crossing. She is friendly when meeting new dogs on walks and adjusts quickly to new packs or situations.
Cat-Friendly
While she has not lived with cats, Mae has met them in controlled environments and has behaved politely. When a cat at the vet hissed at her, she immediately backed away. Based on her temperament, she would likely coexist well with cats in the home.
Kid-Friendly
Mae has not lived with children, but her foster believes she would do well with kids of any age. She is affectionate, joyful, and gentle, though still young and playful. Like any young dog, she could accidentally knock over a small child while playing, so supervision is recommended with toddlers. She does not jump or nip and her little “corn-cob” nibble is affectionate rather than rough.
Leash Behavior
Mae is described as “sensational” on leash. She keeps a steady pace, stays on one side, and naturally adjusts without needing correction. One short walk a day plus playtime suits her well.
House and Crate Training
Mae is mostly house trained. She alerts when she needs to go out, though she occasionally forgets to potty outside if she is too busy playing. She has never had an issue with accidents involving anything other than urine.
She is confident and comfortable in her crate. She eats in her kennel, sleeps there at times, and does not destructively chew or fuss. She can also be left loose if she has recently had a potty break. Occasionally she will vocalize, but she quiets down when told.
Resource Behavior
Mae has no food or toy guarding issues. She shares toys, chews, and treats, and may cheerfully grab a toy if another dog walks away, but not in a pushy or aggressive manner. She is respectful with food and does not beg excessively.
Energy Level
Mae is moderate energy. She loves to play and can be energetic, but she also settles nicely, entertains herself without getting into trouble, and is not demanding if a day is less active. A daily walk and free time in a backyard or play space works well for her. She does best with another dog in the home, as she is confident and happy on her own but truly thrives with a canine companion.
Separation and Time Alone
Mae is usually crated when left alone because this is the routine in her foster home, and she handles it well. She can also be trusted loose as long as she has pottied beforehand.
Personality
Mae is outgoing, playful, affectionate, curious, smart, and silly. She loves toys of all kinds and melts into affection, draping herself over your shoulder and sneaking kisses whenever she gets the chance. She enjoys snuggling on the couch, relaxing with her people, and spending time together.
She is friendly with new people, rides well in the car, and has no issues with stairs.
Fun and Quirky Traits
Mae has a big sense of humor and a dramatic streak that makes her endearing. Her tail wags with such enthusiasm that it could take out a plant or two. She brings positive energy and laughter into the home.
Training Notes
Mae may occasionally give gentle “corn-cob” nibbles when excited, which is affectionate, not aggressive. Continued basic training, provided with positive reinforcement, will help her mature into the wonderful adult dog she is already becoming.
Ideal Home
Mae is a wonderful fit for many types of homes, but she would thrive especially in a family setting with:
A yard to play in
Another dog as a playmate
Kids to grow up with
People who include their dog in everyday life
She does best with gentle correction and a consistent routine. Smart, motivated, and affectionate, Mae has the potential to become a beloved companion or even an emotional support dog for the right adopter.
Mae is ready for a family of her own. If you’re looking for a sweet-natured, playful, affectionate, social dog who will brighten every day, Mae may be the perfect match.
