She is in a foster home in SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS and can transport once an adopter is matched. Meet Trix – The Shy Girl with the Sweetest, Smartest Soul Trix and her brother were surrendered to a shelter in Houston, and it was clear from the start that she was the more shut down of the two. While her brother has already found his forever family, we knew Trix needed extra time in foster care to build confidence before beginning her own journey home. Trix was significantly undersocialized early in life, and her baseline is fear of humans. That said, she has never shown any reactivity — no growling, barking, lunging, nipping, or biting. When she’s unsure, she simply looks for a safe place to hide (a closet, under a deck, a quiet corner). She is gentle — just scared. She is also very quiet and incredibly observant. Trix watches everything going on around her and picks things up quickly. She is VERY smart. Doggy door? She had that figured out within just a couple of days. She may be shy, but she is always learning. After a few days in a new environment, you can see her begin to soften. With patience and intentional time spent building trust, she grows more comfortable being near her people. Over time, she’ll surprise you — playing with toys when she thinks no one is watching, running and sunbathing with other dogs, and eventually choosing to curl up on the couch or sleep in bed with her humans. Trix does well with other dogs after proper acclimation, and we strongly believe she would thrive with a confident canine companion to follow and learn from. While not an absolute requirement, adopters without another dog should have a thoughtful plan for socialization and confidence building.
