Story
Some dogs have that look about them that makes people stop scrolling, and Chillon is definitely one of them. We rescued this guy from euthanasia at an overcrowded shelter in San Antonio, Texas. He made his way to the PNW a few weeks ago!
Chillon, 5-year-old, neutered 68-pound Lab/Pit mix has movie-star good looks paired with the sweetest, slightly goofy personality. With his soulful amber eyes, shiny black coat, and absolutely adorable collection of pajamas, he has a way of making everyone he meets smile. He is currently in a foster home in BURIEN, WA and is ready for meet and greets.
Chillon came into rescue after being surrendered by his owner, landing at a shelter, and ultimately finding himself on the euthanasia list through no fault of his own. Thankfully, he got his second chance, and now he's hoping to find the family he's been waiting for.
Chillon will need another dog in the home to help him with his confidence. He is currently a single dog in his foster home and he stays pretty nervous. When he has a four legged friend around, he becomes very outgoing.
At first, Chillon can be a little shy with new people, but he warms up surprisingly quickly once he realizes he's safe. Underneath that initial hesitation is an incredibly affectionate, silly dog who just wants to be close to his people. One of his signature moves is gently reaching out with a paw to get your attention, then leaning into you before dramatically flopping onto the ground for belly rubs. He has a playful, almost puppy-like spirit about him and can go from bouncing around the yard with a goofy grin to curled up on the couch ready for a nap.
Chillon has done wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys enthusiastic play with friends his own size and larger. He has shown no signs of reactivity and does well with appropriate introductions. He's happy to chew on toys alongside other dogs without any signs of resource guarding, and if another dog gives him a growl or a correction, he simply takes the hint and walks away.
He hasn't been around cats, and while he hasn't been formally tested with children, no issues are anticipated. Because he can be a little timid at first and is still building confidence, a home with respectful, dog-savvy kids ages 12 and up would probably be the best fit.
Chillon is house trained and rides beautifully in the car. He's also incredibly smart and eager to please, which makes him a fun dog to work with. He does pull on the leash right now, so his future family should be prepared to continue working on his leash manners, but he has all the ingredients to be a quick learner. Long daily walks and regular activity will not only help polish those skills, but they also seem to help him feel more settled and confident.
Like many dogs who have experienced a lot of change, Chillon can be a little worried about being left behind. He bonds deeply with his people and truly loves being part of the family. He's currently most comfortable with a predictable routine and would thrive in a home where someone is around for a good part of the day, such as a work-from-home household or one where schedules are staggered. As he continues to build confidence and security, his new family should be prepared to help him work through some separation anxiety with patience and consistency.
His ideal home would be with someone who enjoys having a loyal sidekick nearby and doesn't mind a dog who always wants to know what they're up to. A household with regular walks, playtime, or adventures would be a wonderful fit, and he'd love a cozy couch to crash on afterward. Chillon is very much a "glue dog," happiest when he's included in whatever his people are doing.
Chillon is the kind of dog who makes you root for him. He's a little quirky, a little sensitive, incredibly handsome, and absolutely full of love. He'll make you laugh with his goofy play style, melt your heart with his signature belly-flop requests, and remind you every day just how special it is to earn the trust of a dog who only wants a safe place to land, a comfy couch to snooze on, and a family to call his own.
