Rescue FAQs

German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) Rescue of NJ is a 501c3 organization dedicated to finding permanent loving homes for homeless, abandoned, neglected and abused purebred GSPs. As part of our mission, we educate the public about the breed, and assist GSP owners as needed. Our group covers all of NJ, parts of New York, and assists other recognized out-of-state GSP rescues in emergency situations. GSP Rescue of NJ is part of the National GSP Rescue network. As a non-profit, we raise money through awareness days and special events. We also receive donations and adoption fees. These funds go directly to the costs of vetting, care and boarding associated with the dogs in our program. Aside from re-homing needy GSPs, we are available to offer a variety of assistance for GSP owners in many different ways. OTHER SERVICES INCLUDE: •Emergency foster care for dogs in need •Counseling for owners of dogs with behavioral or other problems •Recommendations for obedience training classes •Educational and reference materials •Breeder referrals for those wishing to purchase a new pup
We deal primarily within NJ, but do work with other surrounding rescues to facilitate out of state adoptions if we do not have a match locally for an adopter, or if an out of state resident is interested in a dog in our program and their local group doesn't have a match.

Additional adoption info

You must fill out an adoption application. Once we receive that, we will have a volunteer call you to discuss our program in more detail, the dogs we have available for adoption and they will set up a home visit.

All GSPs are fully vetted with rabies, distemper and bordatella vaccines, fecal exam and dewormed, HW/Lyme/anaplasmosis/ehrlichia test, microchipped, spayed/neutered and given HW and flea/tick preventative before going to their forever home.

Some type of fencing is usually required, but based on the structure of the house and the energy level of the dog, it may be negotiable.

Adoption fees are $300 for any dog over 1 year of age, $350 under 1 year of age.
