Hi, my name is Koda! I am a 5 year old, neutered male Malamute looking for a new home. My owner was forced to move to a less than ideal environment, due to a severe illness, causing me to be moved from a large yard and plenty of running and exercise, to being confined in a dog run with my female canine friend. I have as a consequence not been walked or exercised enough making me unhappy.
While I tend to be shy with strangers at first, I do have a sweet disposition but need a lot of attention. I am perfectly happy to lean and love on you for hours and love to be brushed (I think I'm quite handsome). Scratch my belly and we will be friends for life.
I was raised with a smaller dog in the household and would do well as an only dog or with a mellow female. Because I missed out on some early socialization, I have a hard time warming up to other animals but have always done well with visiting family pets. It may not be ideal for me to be around smaller pets due to my normal prey drive, which has been amplified by a large number of stray cats in my area.
I would do well in a home with a large yard and room to play "tag" and daily walks. I love to run and be chased, but of course will let you catch me to make you feel better. I have a sweet face with a smile so wide you won't be able to keep yourself from smiling making any bad day you might have had disappear.
I am housebroken and always have had a bedroom of my own to stay in before my move (the mudroom ) and I have never been crate trained. I am in good health and up to date with my vaccinations.
I love to walk, perhaps a little to enthusiastically sometimes, but am doing much better since I have a new "no-pull" harness. I will miss my "mom" and family, but since she is sick and cannot take care of me like she would like, I need to find a home more suitable. If you like a loving and playful dog, then I am your boy!
