My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Leo is an extra large, goofy boy looking for someone that will love him and all of his goofiness.

~ Can be shy/timid around new people
~ Leo would love a family that will keep him active and give him lots of daily exercise and enrichment to keep him busy and happy.
~ This guy is looking for a family that are all adults as he is a big boy that is still working on his manners and he does not quite understand just how big and silly he is.
~ He is looking for a family that will take him to some in person training to work on those silly manners and continue to work on basic training, walking on leash and build a good bond with his new family... He is a smart boy and loves to learn!
~ Leo can be touch sensitive around certain places
~ No apartments please due to his nervousness
~ Leo would rather be an only fur child, he does want to have any other fur siblings

Regularly Exhibited Behaviours Noticed:
- High Energy
- Under-Socialized
- Reactive to people and dogs behind a barrier
- Mouthy
- Jumpy
- Walking on leash/leash manners
- Not comfortable with other dog interactions
- Prey drive

Explanation of Behaviours:
- Leo is high energy and will need plenty of daily exercise, enrichment and training daily.
- Leo can be very vocal especially when he wants something he becomes very demanding
- There has been a lot of reactivity seen when Leo is behind a door or looking through windows
- Leo is under-socialized and will need his new family to help slowly and positively socialize and desensitize him to the world around him with new people, environments and situations so he can feel calm and confident.
- Leo becomes quite jumpy and gets mouthy when he is excited and playing. His new family will have to work on his basic training and manners as well as self-control.
- Leo is very strong and does pull on leash, he will need to work on his on-leash manners.
- Has displayed on multiple occasions being reactive and/or uncomfortable with other dogs and dog to dog interactions.
- Has displayed an intensive play style with prey toys and displayed a prey drive with wildlife.

This dog would benefit from:
- An active home
- Adopter with large dog experience a strong asset
- A family of adults only
- Lots of time and attention
- No apartments
- Training and socialization
- A home with no other animals

Training needs/behaviours that need to be worked with for this dog:
- Basic obedience
- Basic manners: Jumping up, Mouthing, Self-control
- Socialization
- Leash manners
- Reactivity

Additional adoption info

Come into the Centre and if you see a pet you like, you are able to do a "Meet and Greet" with that pet. Spend some time in alone with the pet or take a dog out for a short walk. If you are still interested in adopting the pet you can meet with one of our Adoption Counsellors who will have you fill out and application and will ask you some questions about the environment in which you live. If you seem like a wonderful match and your envirnoment meets the needs of the pet then your application should be approved!
