My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Gertie was brought to a regional shelter after she was hit by a car and left alone, badly injured. Animal Control picked her up and took her to the emergency vet where she was found to have had pulmonary contusions and several cuts, bumps and bruises, but no broken bones. (One of the photos is from the shelter with Gertie's hurt mouth.)

Gertie is recovering nicely, and is a friendly girl who loves to give hugs! She is currently in a foster home with several dogs and wants to play constantly! Gertie is high energy and needs a bit of leash and obedience training, but is eager to please. She will make such a loving and loyal companion!

However...
We have recently discovered that Gertie loves to protect her people when at her home. Female visitors are fine, but she is suspicious of and reactive to unknown human males (like workers) in her home territory. If you're looking for a guard dog, Gertie is your gal!

WE ONLY ADOPT LOCALLY WITHIN A 2 HOUR RADIUS OF THE TRICOUNTY AREA. ***Exceptions may be made for seniors or hard to place dogs.

If the animal is under the age of 3 years old or has health issues, a vet reference is required which means you must own a pet or have owned a pet in your name.

Adoption fee of $440 covers all vetting including spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, microchip heartworm test and treatment if needed and any other medical that may be required while in rescue.

We only do adoptions on Saturday and not all animals are able to attend so if you would like to see a specific animal please let us know so that we can make arrangements for it to be present at the event. Event locations do vary so please check the homepage to find out where we will be this week. Please do not ask us to reduce adoption fees since all fees help us to cover medical expenses for all of our animals, some of which can be very expensive. Saving lives is not cheap so thank you for your understanding and helping us save as many as possible.

Please email lowcountryanimalrescue@ymail.com for an application.
