My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Why does everyone assume I’m small?
Sure, I’m a low rider and a chunky boy, but there’s more to me than my stature. A lot of people think I’m small when they first hear about me, but once they meet me, they realize I’ve got presence.

Meet Hobbes! 🐾
I’m a smart, well-trained long-haired terrier mix who made my way from Austin, TX, to find my forever home here in Skokie! I already have a great foundation—I’m potty trained, crate trained, and know my basic commands. I’m food-motivated and eager to learn, which makes training both fun and rewarding for everyone involved.

I’m an intelligent boy who thrives with structure, consistency, and clear boundaries. I enjoy staying active and do best in a home that can keep both my mind and body engaged. I’ve been working on impulse control through training and have shown great improvement.

My Ideal Home:
Calm, quieter household
Adults only or older children
Someone who enjoys training and building a strong bond with me
Active lifestyle with plenty of mental enrichment

I’m loyal, intelligent, and ready to shine with an experienced owner who can continue building on my excellent foundation. If you’re looking for a dog with great potential and a strong work ethic, I’m ready to meet

I would love to come home with you today.

Our fees include a full medical exam by a veterinarian. This includes a Feline Leukemia and FIV (Feline Immunodeficiency Virus) test for cats, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, deworming and Spay/Neuter. Dogs receive a Heartworm Check, Spay/Neuter, Rabies and Distemper Vaccines, Canine Flu Vaccine, deworming, and Kennel Cough preventative. Our modest adoption fees do not cover the procedures and vet work that we provide the animals. We fundraise to make up the difference. Any ongoing medical needs that C.A.R.E. is aware of are explained fully, (including daily medicine costs), to the potential adopter, and become the responsibility of the adopter.
