Breed: Chihuahua mix
Sex: Male
Age: 2 yrs. (dob 10/27/2023)
Weight: 6.9 lbs
Medical Needs: Neuter date is December 9th at the DOVER BVSPCA (Horsepond Road). Keeping this appointment is a condition of adoption. Applicants must either live in Delaware, or within 1 hour of where the appointment is scheduled to be eligible to adopt this dog. (Drop off for spay is 8-8:30am– nothing to eat or drink after midnight).
Housebroken: Yes. He whimpers to let you know when he's ready to use the bathroom.
Crate trained: Yes.
Good in the car: The only times he's been in the car was upon picking him up to transport to his current foster home and he was in a crate when going to the vet, and at that time he was in a dog carrier (and he wasn't very happy about that).
Good on a leash: Yes. He enjoys walks.
Energy Level: With being 2yrs old, he's been laid back, until he gets around the resident dog and then his energy level goes into high gear for "play time".
Need a fenced in yard: No, with how small he is, he does not need a fenced in yard. Personally, I would never leave him alone in a fenced in yard, if you have one.
Dog Friendly: Yes, he's currently in a foster home with another dog.
If yes, does your foster need another dog in its new home? No, Bento does not need another dog in his new home. If there is another dog in the home, we have discovered that Bento has "resource guarding" issues. We don't know what trauma that Bento experienced before joining the GRR Family, but he does not like for anyone to take his food once it's in front of him. In his current foster home, his foster mom continues to feed him and the resident dog separately to prevent any feeding issues.
Cat Friendly? Unsure, with Bento being in a home without a cat.
Kid Friendly: Yes... absolutely enjoys belly rubs.
If yes, what's the youngest child you'd recommend they be placed with? Due to his size and the "resource guarding" issue, it's recommended that Bento shouldn't be with any child under the age of 8, without close supervision.
Special traits that make your foster special or that we need to know about them? Mr. Bento may be tiny is stature, but has a very strong personality that lets you know his feelings straight up front where I don't think he realizes he's of a tiny stature. He may look like a "purse dog", please don't attempt to place him in a "purse" or any bag. He's definitely not a fan. He enjoys being around the family as much as possible. He's willing to relax by your side, if you want to relax and watch TV or take a walk outside to enjoy a beautiful day. Don't be scared by his reverse sneeze that happens sometimes, when he gets excited, it comes out of nowhere. Unfortunately, we don't know about Mr. Bento's past life before coming to his current foster home, so his new family will definitely need to have patience with him. He is looking for a family that will love on him, adore him, and give him the needed attention for him to introduce himself, grow with his new family, and into being his most, amazing self.
