My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet the fabulous Puainako! 🌟 This 2-year-old lovable mix of Pit Bull Terrier, Catahoula Leopard Dog, and a sprinkle of Irish Wolfhound magic is like a big bundle of joy wrapped in a fluffy package! Weighing in at a sturdy 50 lbs, he’s got the heart of a gentle giant and the playful spirit of a puppy! 🐶💖

Now, let’s talk about this charming fella! Puainako is one sweet, silly goofball who’s always ready to spread joy. He adores people and gets along splendidly with other dogs, although he might not quite be aware of his size—get ready for some enthusiastic jumping and kisses! 💋 If you like a furry friend that brings laughter into your life, Puainako is the one!

He simply loves to play fetch, although he’s still working on mastering the “bring it back” part. But hey, who needs perfection when you’ve got a heart full of love and a face that melts hearts? ❤️ Plus, he’s a food lover, so prepare yourself for some adorable puppy eyes when mealtime rolls around!

Now, a little note: Puainako hasn’t had his shots yet, but not to worry! He’ll either be all set with vaccinations before adoption or come with an appointment to get fixed and chipped—so you’ll have a healthy, happy companion ready to go! 🩺✨

If you’re searching for a loyal, energetic buddy who’ll keep you smiling (and maybe sneak a snack or two), look no further than Puainako! Ready to meet your new best friend? Hit apply and let’s get started! 🐾

More about this rescue

Big Island Dogs Rehoming and Resources Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based on Hawaiʻi Island. We are a dedicated dog rescue charity committed to giving every dog the second chance they deserve. We rescue abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs, providing them with essential medical care, safe shelter, and the unconditional love they’ve been missing, as well as assist the community in various needs such as rehoming, transportation to clinics and education.

We are holistically minded, believing that a dog’s well-being goes far beyond basic care. Our approach supports the whole animal....body, mind, and spirit, so every dog has the opportunity to heal fully and thrive.

In addition to rescue and rehabilitation, we provide education and resources to help people support their dogs in living healthier, happier lives. From guidance on nutrition and natural wellness to tools that promote a robust immune system, we empower owners with knowledge that can make a lifelong difference.

Through fostering, adoption, outreach, and community programs, we strive to build a world where every dog is cared for compassionately and holistically. Every donation, volunteer effort, and act of kindness helps transform a dog’s life and strengthens the human-animal bond along the way.
