My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

How this pet arrived:
Barney was brought in by their previous owner on January 7th, 2025.

Why this pet is the one for you:
Meet Barney! Barney is a slow-and-steady kind of cat, the cardigan-wearing, take-it-easy type. New environments can feel a little spooky, so he'll need a cozy room or hideaway to decompress and observe the world at a safe distance. A quiet, consistent home is his jam. He likes to take things one whisker at a time. Skip the forced hellos, and he'll eventually show his more people-curious side - and when he does, it feels like you've unlocked a secret level. He's looking for a human who notices his cues and is happy to let Barney set the pace. If kids are in the home, they should be 12 or older and able to respect boundaries. Barney is ready to join your crew and bring a little charm, mischief and curiosity to your days. Don't forget a secure carrier for Barney's VIP ride home.

Shy/Fearful Cat:  Barney requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them.

More about this shelter

San Diego Humane Society, an open-admission shelter, is creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. Our lifesaving safety net has helped San Diego become the largest city in the U.S. to keep healthy and treatable shelter animals from being euthanized. We are a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.

With campuses in El Cajon, Escondido, Oceanside, Ramona and San Diego, we provide animal services for 14 cities within San Diego County. We not only care for 50,000 animals in our communities but also share the expertise we have gained through our innovative programs with shelters nationwide so they can save more lives in their communities.

While our influence is expanding nationally, our top priority is meeting the needs of San Diego. We provide exceptional care for all animals through world-class veterinary medicine, shelter and most of all: love.
