Hi! My name is Short Cake and here is a little more about me :
My Journey I come from a colony/community cat background and am now enjoying the comforts of indoor life. I’ve adapted well and continue to show just how curious and engaging I can be.
My Social Life Other cats: I enjoy playing with older, low-key cats and could also do well with an equally energetic kitten. Dogs: Dogs are a hard no for me—even barking on TV is a bit too much! Kids: I’ve met mini humans and love engaging in play with them. A quick summary: I’m playful, curious, and social in my own way. I’m not a constant cuddler, but once you’ve earned a “worthy” warm spot, I’m happy to settle in. I bond strongly through play and interaction.
My Personality Curious, energetic, and clever. I love to explore, learn, and play, and I’m smart enough to be taught tricks! Interactive time helps me feel confident and connected.
I Enjoy… My fishing rod toy (it’s my absolute favorite—I can hear it from anywhere and come running!). I can play with it for 2 hours straight.. Yes, my foster tested it !!! Crinkle toys and springs Watching bird feeders or “bird TV” from a cozy spot
I’m Not a Fan Of… Dogs of any kind. I also have a mischievous habit of chewing on plants—not to eat them, just to chew and spit them out. Sometimes I’ll rustle them if I want attention, so plant-free spaces are ideal.
What Makes Me Special My voice! When I want something—treats, attention, or to be picked up—I let you know with an adorable, drawn-out meow that turns into little chitters until I’m completely out of breath.
My Perfect Home I’d thrive in a home with playful kids who want an active feline friend. I could live happily with a calm adult cat, a fun-loving kitten, or even as a spoiled solo cat. As long as there’s playtime, stimulation, and no dogs, I’ll be right at home.

More about this rescue
Smittens isn’t just another cat rescue.
We are a coalition of volunteers with a spay/neuter mission, dedicated to helping both stray and owned animals in the greater San Diego area get fixed, receive veterinary care, and whatever else they may need! Smittens works with shelters and other rescues to route cats to proper vet care and eventual homes, and we take in stray cats who need help getting off the street. We also support TNR for feral cats, and assist cat and dog owners to get their own pets fixed and vaccinated at a low cost.
