Meet Stevie, the Sweetest Quiet Soul Looking for Her Forever Home

Stevie is a gentle, soft-hearted girl who wins people over not with big energy, but with quiet loyalty and a tender spirit. She takes her time getting to know new people, especially men, but once she decides you’re safe, she becomes a deeply devoted companion who greets you with a wagging tail, soft eyes, and a hopeful roll onto her back for belly rubs—her absolute favourite.

At home, Stevie is the definition of well-mannered. She’s fully housetrained, non-destructive, and respectful of the space—she doesn’t even attempt to get on the furniture, preferring her bed and her beloved lambchop toy, which she often carries with her like a comfort item. She settles well when left alone and spends much of her day snoozing contentedly. She isn’t very food-motivated, but she’ll happily accept pork treats, dental sticks, or a crunchy cod skin.

Stevie is timid by nature and would thrive in a calm, patient home that lets her blossom at her own pace. Loud or busy environments, including very young children, may overwhelm her, but gentle, dog-savvy older kids or adults would be a great fit. She warms up more quickly to women, but with kindness and time, she opens her heart to anyone willing to earn her trust. Once she feels safe, Stevie’s personality shines through in the sweetest ways—her little backyard zoomies, her goofy moments, and the way she nudges you for affection in the morning. She doesn’t bark, she rides quietly in the car once settled, and she’s working on basic commands like stay and come.

Life with Stevie is peaceful and easy. She’s a low-energy girl who loves her routines: a mid-morning walk, a cozy nap in her dog bed, an evening stroll, and plenty of lounging in between. She walks beautifully on leash and prefers to keep moving when passing strangers, but she’s made great progress with confidence and continues to improve. She’s indifferent to most dogs and would be perfectly happy as an only dog, though she could coexist with a calm canine friend, though her preference would be to live in a quieter neighbourhood outside of the ci

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

To adopt one of our dogs, please fill out an application here (https://caninehaven.org/dog-application/).

Although we do our best to reply to all inquiries within 48 hours, please remember we are a 100% volunteer based organization, and many of us have full time jobs outside of rescue. We appreciate your patience.

Our priority is to ensure the fit is right for both you and the dog, we will reach out to your personal and veterinarian references (if applicable), and your landlord (if applicable). A virtual video or pictures of your place are required at the time of application.

You will then be granted a private meet and greet with the dog. If after the meet and greet, you would like to proceed with adoption, we will review your application internally and with the foster and make a final decision.

More about this rescue

Formed in 2013, a small scale dog rescue located in Ontario. We are a non-profit, volunteer-run, foster home based.

None of our dogs are boarded in kennels upon arrival.

We are dedicated in rescuing dogs from the Caribbean, Mexico and North America as well as local surrenders.

We place dogs in loving, responsible and committed permanent homes, following a comprehensive adoption process.

Animals in our care are spayed or neutered, receive all appropriate veterinary care and treatment and placed in nurturing foster homes while they await placement in their permanent homes.

We assist dogs in distress without regard to age, breed or ease of placement
