Kasumi is still learning how to love and be loved. She was a terrified ball of brown fur in her kennel when she arrived. For good reason too. There is a scar around her neck from something unsavory from her past. Kasumi outside of her kennel is super silly. She likes to be close as possible and still figuring out how to ask for love without the energy. She is smart and we are sure she is already making great strides. A good home will help her even more. Chicago Animal Care and Control is located at 2741 S. Western Ave., Chicago, IL, and is open from 12pm to 7pm daily. Walk-in visitors are welcome and helped on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are planning to adopt the day you visit, please plan to arrive before 5:30pm. Visitors arriving after 5:30pm will still be able to view animals in Pavilions A-B-C until 7pm. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated before adoption. All household members should be present to meet dogs (especially those under 18 and any decision-makers). We recommend and can arrange dog-to-dog meet and greets for your current dog(s) to meet a potential dog sibling at the shelter. You will need to show proof of up-to-date rabies vaccination for your dog(s). Slow, cautious, and appropriate introductions are recommended after you allow time for decompression for the shelter dog. Also her ears are like satellite dishes so she can hear you open a door a mile away. If she sense your tired or upset will want to keep you company.

I was hiding behind a "fireworks" sign on the access road, big TRUCKS on my right side and the railroad tracks on my left! It was "ruff" but not so much anymore ;) I mean, this chick showed up with FOOD and a CAR and a LEASH and COMPASSION..... and she SAAAAVVVEEDDDD ME!! NOW, I have food every day, clean water, protection from the traffic and the weather and LOTS of friends!! I am living the rescue life....pretty soon the rescue peeps told me i will be living the ADOPTED LIFE :) I am a ruggedly handsome boy with an incurable positivity! Born: November 14, 2024 I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $400 Meet Luna Mae! ☀️ Luna Mae is a happy, affectionate young girl who is ready to find her forever family once again. At just over a year old, this beautiful Lab/Basenji mix has all the fun, playful energy of a young dog while already having great manners in the home. Luna Mae absolutely loves being with her people and would happily choose quality time over just about anything. Her previous family described her as a girl who wants to be by your side 24/7 and isn’t shy about asking for attention — she’ll even gently push on you with her paws when she wants some extra love! She’s house trained and will bark at the door to let you know she needs to go outside. She rides wonderfully in the car, does well for vet visits, brushing, and nail trims, and enjoys getting out for walks. She also knows a couple tricks including sit and give paw. Luna Mae loves playing with other dogs and enjoys trips to the dog park where she gets to socialize and have fun. On walks, rabbits can be a little extra exciting for her — she’s always curious about what’s hopping by! One of her favorite games? A good chase around the house followed by plenty of attention and cuddles. Luna Mae is looking for a family that wants a loyal companion, a cuddle buddy, and a best friend who will be right there with them through every part of the day.
