Bear is an adorable 2.5 - 3 year old, 50lb, Bassett Hound/ Labrador mix. We would like to put him in a calm home, with a secure, fenced backyard. He has short legs but he can jump high. He would be best as an only dog, or with a female dog that likes to play rough. He is healthy, neutered, current on all vaccines, and microchipped. My name is Charlie and I am an 11-year-old, happy-go-lucky senior male Basset Hound looking for my forever home. Sadly, my owner passed away suddenly, so I am now with the nice folks at BHRSC and ready to start the next part of my life. I am a fairly easy going, fully house and crate-trained hound. I love meeting other dogs and people and can sometimes be quite vocal about it! My foster mom says I sound like a seal! But most of all, I really like to stay close to my human. I would love it if someone could stay at home with me most of the time or provide another calm dog friend to hang out with. I also love and look forward to my daily walks. In the recent past, I injured my back jumping and received laser therapy which helped a lot. Since then, I like to set my own pace on walks and take rest breaks as needed. No more jumping for me! I am an expert at using a ramp on to the couch or into the car. I just had extensive dental work done and require ongoing medication for elevated blood pressure also. But give him a few minutes and he melts. He quickly attaches to his person and will follow you from room to room just to be near you. He’s a total sucker for head and belly scratches.He’s a lower-energy boy who’s happy with a relaxed 15-20 minute stroll before bedtime rather than a marathon walk, which makes him a great fit for anyone who wants a calm companion rather than a workout partner. He’s still learning about crates, but he settled in and slept through the night, and adjusted even faster the second time.Sheldon is looking for a patient person who can give him the safe, quiet space to fully unwind and show his sweet side. If you want a dog who’ll bond hard and just wants to be near you, he’s your guy.”Sheldon came in with another dog originally, but they had to be separated due to some semi-serious spats. He was returned from foster because he and the foster’s dog didn’t get along so well. He is fine walking near dogs and being in their presence, yet he would do best as the only dog in a new household. Bonded with Pickles, A132858. Must be adopted together.Pickles and Chico, what a pair! Their history has bonded them, so we feel it’s healthier for both to be adopted and kept together.Pickles has lived his life on the streets with his homeless owner since he was very young. Chico came into the picture about a year ago when he was found and cared for by the duo. Their owner has had some issues over the years and Pickles has been a regular visitor to our shelter. He has actually gotten very comfortable here and has formed a strong bond with staff, always feeling safe and loved.Pickles is up for any adventure. He loves a good hike, or a slow day at the park with endless belly rubs. Chico is a bit younger, full of energy and a new human will have to earn his trust (although it only takes a day or so and some yummy treats) he is less trusting than Pickles but comes around quickly and is lovely. Their former owner cared for them and loved them and got them whatever they needed, so they come from a loving situation. Now they need a home. It will take some getting used to for them, as they lived in parks and such, but they are smart and will catch on to a good thing and a comfy couch to cuddle on. Could this street savvy fabulous, pair be what you’re looking for? They say “yes!”---------------------------Pickles and Chico were great on the hike today. According to Garmin, we knocked out 2.7 miles and Chico was still raring’ to go. I think Pickles was done (see pics below). Both were great in the car with Pickles just chillin’, but Chico definitely wanted to be co-pilot and have a clear view of the road at all times! I will say Pickles pulled pretty much the first 2 miles, never like a lunge or a chase, but he’ll definitely need a strong handler or more leash work. They were both non-reactive to other dogs and joggers on the path. They noticed squirrels, birds and lizards, but never went after them. Overall a delightful day hike and they’re so great with each other.
