We do our best to provide information that will help determine if the animal might be a good fit for you. Please note that behaviors may change in a home environment. We also ask our applicants to assume that any animal they adopt from us will need to be potty-trained and learn house manners, although this is not always the case. In most cases, the listed breeds are also a best guess. Our online animal bios are designed to provide as much information as possible and answer some anticipated questions. We do not have the resources to respond to emails with more specific questions. We are receiving an unusually high number of applications at this time! Applications are reviewed as they are received, but we do not select adopters on a first-come basis. Our job is to ensure each pet is placed into the best fit home for them and that adopters are paired with an animal that is a good fit for their lifestyle. All animals will stay online until they are “pending adoption”. Therefore, if an animal is still listed, we are still accepting applications for him/her! Please do not send inquiries about a specific animal's availability as this can change quickly over the course of the day. The fastest way to get a response is to simply submit an application! We will do our best to notify you by email if the pet(s) you are interested in are no longer available. New animals are posted daily, so please let us know if another furry friend peaks your interest (there is no need to fill out a second application)! Fill out the application completely. Every question must be answered, and it must be signed.-Applicants must be 21+ years old and live within a 100-mile radius of our shelter at 22415 Groesbeck Hwy, Warren 48089.-You must identify at least 1 animal that you are interested in.-Once your application is received, it will be assigned to one of our volunteer Adoption Counselors who will follow-up with the applicant who is the best fit within a few days, or to discuss other options. It could take up to a couple of weeks for you to receive a final disposition on your application so there is no need to check on the status.-Introductions will be scheduled by appointment only, 30 minutes per appointment. The entire household, including current dogs, must be present for the appointment. (Note: Please do not bring your dogs if you are meeting cats!). The introductions will take place outside in our parking lot (or in our cat room if you're meeting cats).-We will perform vet checks for current and prior pets in the household.-Finalizing the adoption will also be scheduled by appointment.Thank you for your understanding.

Story
🐾 MEET BASIL 🐾 Name: Basil Age: 6 years old Breed: Basset Hound Sex: Male Weight: Approximately 50 lbs. ABOUT BASIL Personality: Laid-back, affectionate, easygoing, and sweet. Basil is a gentle guy who enjoys the simple things in life and would love nothing more than a comfortable place to call home. Favorite Things: Sniffing around, lounging, tasty treats, being brushed, getting attention, and enjoying a comfy place to nap. Funny/Cute Quirk: Basil is a professional lounger with those classic floppy Basset ears! Give him a cozy spot, some treats, and a yard to sniff around, and he’s a happy boy. Foster’s Favorite Thing About Them: His easygoing, gentle personality. Basil has spent nearly his entire life with the same family and has so much love to give his next one. THE DETAILS Energy Level: Low Good with Dogs: Yes — although he can occasionally be dominant. Good with Cats: Yes — he generally ignores them. Good with Kids: Adult-only home needed. Potty Trained: Mostly — he is housebroken but currently goes out approximately every 4 hours and will need regular bathroom breaks while adjusting to a new routine. Crate Trained: No Ideal Home: A calm, adult-only home where Basil can enjoy plenty of attention, comfortable places to lounge, and a yard to sniff around. His adopter should be comfortable with his handling needs, as Basil has bitten during nail trims in the past. He is currently groomed at a facility that uses a protective cone and grooming hammock for nail trims. Adoption Fee: $350 MEDICAL Known Medical Issues: N/A Anything Else We Should Know: Basil is currently still living with the family he has been with since he was 4 months old. Due to changes in their work schedules, they can no longer give him the time and attention he needs. Happy Paws Haven is looking for a foster-to-adopt home so Basil can transition directly into his potential forever home rather than entering boarding. Once a foster-to-adopt home is found, the rescue can bring his veterinary care up to date. INTERESTED IN ADOPTING? Story
Currently this sweet baby is with our rescue, The Artemis Project, in Arkansas. We DO, however, transport monthly to the metro Detroit area of MI. Because we’re able to transport, we ARE able to accept adoption applications directly from residents of MI. Why do we transport? Because animal overpopulation is severe in our region, and stray and unwanted dogs have very little chance of finding a home here. These babies are, however, at a high risk of being neglected, abused, abandoned, euthanized or even shot (it’s “the way things are done” for some people down here). YOU are truly one of the only safe and happy endings for the lucky ones we are able to rescue. Upon approval of your adoption application, we will then transport your new furbaby to you in the metro Detroit area for just a small travel expense fee of $50 in addition to the adoption fee. MICHIGAN RESIDENTS—>PLEASE CLICK THE LINK BELOW TO FILL OUT THE ADOPTION APPLICATION: https://new.shelterluv.com/form/other/TAP/2450-michigan-adoption Before we can change your new furbaby’s status from "adoptable" to "adoption pending," the $50 transport fee must be paid to secure the adoption. At that time, we will stop accepting applications. The entire adoption fee must be paid prior to the transport in order to ensure your new baby has a spot on the transport. Thank you SO MUCH for giving a homeless Arkansas pup a chance at a real life with a family of their very own!
