I also have a scared guy named Butterball who needs placement. Butterball does not like to be outside or go for walks. He is a very scared boy but will walk outside with another dog. He has been dog friendly with us and has been adopted and returned twice due to his fearful nature. On his most recent return he did bite the hand of the adopter while they were restraining him to put a harness on to take him for a walk. Both homes were dog free and did not have a fenced yard. Due to our shelter not having strict adoption requirements we worry that he may end up returned again for his fearful nature. We have been better screening potential adopters this time around. Our adoptions have been moving a bit slowly. Butterball is also heartworm positive. HSTC will schedule and provide the heartworm injections when the time comes. You'd just have to get him here. we are looking for a dog savvy person to work with Butterball out of the shelter in a home where he can blossom. Any of these incidents can happen when folk are not dog savvy and cognizant of dog behaviour. So we are seeking a foster that can nurture and help this dog commit to boundaries and a routine that will instill confidence and positive outcome. Could that be you?? He is still in the shelter and we cannot pull him until we get a committment. Recommend someone on the east coast please. Thank you !

Meet Sun! Sun is the sweetest girl and loves her people! We rescued her from the shelter with her litter of puppies and she was estimated to be only a year old. She was skinny and dirty, but is now a gorgeous black & tan girl. She has a beautiful coat and is so healthy now! Her puppies have all been adopted and now it's her time to shine.  Sun is potty trained, great on a leash and loves car rides! She absolutely loves being outside, playing and exploring. Once she finds her person, she wants to stay close and follow them around - she’s happiest when she knows her person is nearby. She is good with kids and has met a few other dogs. She did well with them, although she hasn’t had a lot of experience with other dogs yet. She’s still young, and with continued positive socialization, we think Sun has everything it takes to become a social butterfly. She is best with calm, submissive dogs and not dogs that are in her face. Ideally, we think she would thrive as your only dog and is a wonderful companion that way.  Sun is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated and heartworm negative. Her adoption fee is $200 and she is being fostered in Tampa.
