She was severely underweight and covered in ticks and fleas. Despite all of that, she was immediately friendly and just wanted love—even while we were pulling ticks off of her. For the first two weeks, she was so afraid of being indoors that she slept in our Florida room and would not come fully inside the house. With time and patience, she has warmed up and is now a total ham. She is fully vetted: Up to date on vaccinations Microchipped  On Simparica Trio for fleas, ticks, and parasites Personality & Household CompatibilityMabel is affectionate, playful, goofy, and has a classic beagle personality. She has discovered the joy of: Having her own bed Sharing human beds with people and other dogsShe loves snuggles, belly rubs, and light play/wrestling. She’s on the clumsy side when she’s excited on the bed, which just adds to her charm. She currently lives peacefully with: Multiple dogs Cats A ferret A 9‑year‑old child She has done well with all of them. She genuinely enjoys other dogs and likes to cuddle and play with canine friends. She’s estimated to be around 6 years old, but still has a good amount of play in her. Known Challenges & Training NeedsGiven her history, I strongly suspect she was an outdoor dog and likely abused. She has physical scars, and behaviorally she tends to shut down with any negative reinforcement, so she absolutely needs a positive‑reinforcement, beagle‑savvy home. Areas we are still working on: Potty training:She’s made progress but isn’t 100% consistent yet. To be fair, we have two senior dogs who use potty pads, which makes things confusing for her. A more straightforward setup and consistent routine should help her continue to improve. Resource guarding: Mabel came to us extremely thin and food-insecure. She has gained over 10 pounds since arriving and looks much healthier, but she still guards food and will steal from other dogs if given the chance. She currently eats separately and does best with structured mealtimes. Her guarding has only involved growling and occasional barking—she has never bitten or made contact over resources in my home. She can also guard human attention and bed space a bit, so adopters should be comfortable with management and positive training around this. Recall: Her nose is all beagle—once she’s on a scent, her recall can suffer. A securely fenced yard is strongly preferred, and off‑leash should be limited to safe, enclosed areas. Chewing: She is still a chewer and is learning what’s appropriate vs. off‑limits. She does well when supervised with proper chew options and will need ongoing guidance here. Ears: She has chronically yeasty ears and will need regular at‑home ear care (enzymatic washes and otic cleaner) to keep them comfortable.  Crate & vocalization: Mabel is not great in a crate at this point and is very vocal, as you’d expect from a beagle. She uses her voice outside and will bark at the door when she’s ready to come in. A home that understands beagle volume and doesn’t share walls with sensitive neighbors would be ideal. Ideal HomeMabel would do best in: A beagle‑experienced (or hound‑experienced) home With at least one other dog of similar age and energy level for companionship and play Ideally, with someone who works from home or is around a good portion of the day A securely fenced yard, as we are still working on leash manners, and her nose can override her recall She’s spayed, loving, and absolutely has the makings of an excellent family dog—especially for a family that likes a goofy, cuddly, vocal beagle and is willing to continue her training with patience and positive reinforcement.  Mabel has survived a lot and truly deserves a life that is much better than how it started. You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.She arrived as Granny. It's a sweet name, but about ten minutes in, it was clear it didn't match the dog. This lady hops. She hops when the harness comes out, because the harness means going somewhere, and going somewhere is her favorite thing in the world. So Granny became Franny, and Franny it is. Her paperwork says 11. Our vet took one look and said he'd be surprised. Whatever her real number, she has not read it. Franny loves to go. She'll lead you to the door, then to the car, then look back to make sure you're coming. But she's just as good at the other half of the day. She loves her time in the backyard, and she loves her time on the couch pressed up against her person. She knows how to play, she knows how to cuddle, she knows how to ask for a belly rub, and she is a deeply enthusiastic eater. She's living with our two dogs, one bigger and one smaller, and she does well with both. She's potty trained, with a couple of accidents her first few days and none since. She taught herself the doggy door. What she wants most is company. Franny can be left alone, she'd just rather not be. She has been a perfect work-from-home companion, happy to sleep at your feet all morning as long as you're there. She's funny, she's sweet, and she is so ready for a family of her own.   Granny Franny is heartworm positive.  She can be adopted during treatment if the adopter is local and able to transport her to her vet visits. He came to TBBR all the way from Kentucky where his life was not the greatest, but he still has a sunny, sweet personality. Leroy has a loud beagle bark when he uses it which is no too often. He likes short walks and to go sniff everything. Leroy had a few accidents inside at his foster home but quickly settled into our schedule and using the dog door. He is a very good car rider and likes to spend time outside and sometimes plays with the toys here. Leroy gets along well with others and is very food motivated. Leroy tested positive for lyme and canine ehrlichiosis and has almost completed his initial treatment for that. He loves to play with toys and run around with his foster siblings in the backyard. He is a great shadow and wants to be near his person all the time. He is slowly learning basic commands and is treat motivated. He does well in a crate during the day but loves to cuddle in the bed at night. He is house trained and hasn't had any accidents but will try to get in the laundry or rearrange shoes. He is learning to walk on a leash and does well when walking with another dog for encouragement. He gets along well with both small and large dogs, hasn't been tested with cats or kids, has not shown any aggression and is very laid back. I may be a little shy and nervous when I first meet someone or enter a new environment, but once I feel safe, loved, and comfortable, I become the most loyal little shadow you could ask for. Before you know it, I’ll be following you wherever you go! I’m wonderful with both big and small dogs, as well as older and younger children. I’m submissive, laid-back, loving, and incredibly well behaved. I don’t need to be the center of attention or have something exciting happening all the time. I’m a calm, low-energy boy who is happiest simply being near my people. I’m already crate trained, potty trained, leash trained, and house trained! I’m very respectful in the home, and I don’t need constant activity to be happy. I actually think naps, couch cuddles, and relaxing are some of life’s greatest pleasures. I also love spending time outside on the balcony, feeling the fresh air and just taking in the world around me. Once I trust you, I’m a total cuddle bug and couch potato. I love being close to my people and soaking up all the affection I can get. I’m not hyper or overly active, making me a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys a peaceful, loving dog. I may bark or whine a little while getting comfortable in my crate, but I’m learning quickly and settling into my routine. I don’t know any commands or tricks yet, but I’m smart, eager to please, and ready to learn! With positive reinforcement, patience, and encouragement, I’m sure I’ll pick things up quickly. I could also use some help building my confidence, especially as I continue learning that new people and new places can be safe. My ideal home would be with a loving, patient family who understands that shy dogs sometimes need a little extra time to come out of their shell. I’m playful, loving, nurturing, submissive, friendly, shy, and laid-back. I can be a little skittish at first, but once I feel safe and learn that I can trust you, my sweet personality really starts to shine. 🥰 Once I’m comfortable, I’m an absolute cuddle bug! I love relaxing with my people and would happily nap beside you all day if you let me. I’m a total couch potato and think being close to my person is one of the best things in the world. ❤️ I’m also incredibly well-behaved in the house and have great house manners. I’m crate trained and house trained, and I’m the kind of guy who is happy to settle in and enjoy a peaceful day with my family. I don’t know any commands just yet, but I’m learning and ready to keep working on them. Because I’m a laid-back boy, I’d be a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys a quieter, relaxed lifestyle. I would do best with a small family where I can have plenty of time and attention to build my confidence and become comfortable in my new surroundings. 🐾 A backyard would be wonderful for me, too. I’d love having a safe place to wander around, enjoy some fresh air, and explore at my own pace before coming back inside for more couch time and cuddles.
