Story
Banana, 9.5 years, is a super sweet, sensitive, playful and loving pup. I started caring for Banana out of the shelter 8 years ago. At that time she was emaciated, suffering a skin disease, shy, suffering PTSD and quiet timid. It took her a week to learn to trust and eat food. In the 8 years we have been together, she has experienced tremendous shifts, through loving attention on multiple levels and some homeopathic remedies. She loves to run and be playful with other dogs. She also loves to bury her snout into you and give and receive love. She gets along well with everyone and has lived with dogs and cats and kids and people her whole time with me. She also appreciates alone time and while she enjoys caressing, getting too close for too long can be too much. An ideal new home would be somewhere with space and other animals I feel. Or at least where she can be taken to interact with other dogs. She has no known medical issues and operates best on a wet food diet.

Story
This 2-year-old male beagle is a shy and sensitive boy who is still learning to feel safe and comfortable around new people and environments. Despite this, he is able to remain functional and will accept food rewards with mild hesitation, which is a positive sign that he can continue building trust through patient handling and gentle positive reinforcement. He will benefit greatly from a calm environment and slow introductions that allow him to move at his own pace. He would likely do best in a quiet, understanding home that can provide consistency, patience, and confidence-building experiences. Overall, he is a gentle beagle with a soft demeanor who has the potential to continue gaining confidence as he settles into a supportive environment.

Story
Harriet has been waiting for a home for over two months and unfortunately the shelter is not where this sweet girl shows her best self. This gal is a 5-year-old Beagle mix who was found running after a truck that kept speeding up as she tried to follow it. Eventually, she became too tired to keep going and was brought to us. We don’t know anything about her life before that day, but since arriving at the shelter, we’ve been slowly getting to know her. The staff and volunteers have spent a lot of time with Harriet to help her acclimate, and she has made a lot of progress. Once Harriet is out of her kennel and feeling more comfortable, she really starts to open up. She enjoys exploring the yard with her nose leading the way, walks well once she settles into the leash and has happily approached people for pets and attention. She is also VERY treat motivated, although we’re still working on taking those treats a little more gently, Harriet has also been through heartworm treatment during her time with us and recently completed her final injections like a brave girl. She is still on activity restrictions while she recovers, but at 5 years old, she has plenty of speed when she’s feeling comfortable! More than anything, Harriet needs someone who can look past how frightened she is in the kennel and give her the time and patience to feel safe. She has so much love to give and deserves a home where she can finally relax and be herself. Thanks to our friends at J.R. Dunn Jewelers, they have kindly paid her adoption fee.  To meet Harriet, complete the pre-adoption application at www.humanebroward.com. The Humane Society of Broward County is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL 33312 and the adoption kennels open daily at 11 a.m.  If you have any questions call 954-989-3977 ext. 6.

Story
I’m as sweet as my name suggests! But fairly shy when meeting anyone new. I’m deliciously chunky (must be all that ricotta filling!) but I’m working hard to slim down to a healthier size. My last family had a new baby who kept grabbing me and scaring me, so here I am looking for a new home. Give me a chance, and we can enjoy the dolce vita - together!

Story
I am a sassy girl who loves long walks on the beach! I was found roaming the streets near downtown, covered in fleas and frightened. No family came to claim me, but that's fine! I've been flourishing in my foster home! I enjoy the sun and sand. I do well with other pups, but get a little snappy if they get too close. I'm working on it! Will you be my furever family?

Story
This is Laura, she’s a 3 year old Beagle, she’s the sweetest, friendliest, and curious little thing ever. She is frightened and hides from strangers but a couple seconds or sniffing and she’s demanding licks! Unfortunately, we were told shortly after rescuing her that we need a certificate to have a dog her size in our neighborhood due to HOA regulations. Therefore, we refused to give her back to a shelter but instead to find her a new home instead. Documentation of all her medical history, shots, and heartworm tests are in our hands and we’re asking for a $0 adoption fee, but a loving family that can take care of her and she’s got another 10-12 years to go. Feel free to reach out with any questions that need answering.P.s. She's a big foodie! :)
