We got Ellie from a work friend when she was just a puppy and she is now about 7 years old. We are looking for a home that can give her the attention, love and exercise that she deserves. She is very affectionate and loving, and loves being around people. She would benefit from a home that has someone around during the day and with daily exercise. She has never had issues being around other dogs or children, although she takes some time to warm up to other dogs. Ellie is a mixed breed and the vet thinks she is part beagle. She is about 30lbs.

This sweet boy is Rocky! Rocky is a beagle mix that is heavier than he should be... so, currently he is on a diet, with us. His previous owner left him outside in a lot and threw food over the fence along with scraps. Rocky is an incredibly sweet and affectionate dog who loves a good belly rub and he loves to be a clown and smiles frequently when taking his picture. He is loving life, now, in his foster home. There are plenty of people and dogs that are playing with him and making sure that he is losing weight and making it fun, at the same time. Rocky is 3 years old. He has never lived inside, so we are working on his housetraining. He learns quickly and he is eager to please. Rocky loves other dogs and seems to ignore the cats in his foster home. He loves the attention of the kids, that are around some and most especially anyone that showers him with affection. Rocky is up to date on vaccines. He will be neutered, heartworm tested and chipped, in a few weeks.

Found as a stray who was never claimed, it would seem that she had been previously abused. She was first adopted by an elderly lady who said that she was afraid of her cane at first. She became comfortable and happy at her house, only this elderly lady is now in hospice care and needs to rehome her. Except for going to the vet's offices, Chelsea is not accustomed to being away from the lady's house..She has enjoyed playing with other foster dogs, but occasionally, can be bossy and dominant with them. She is initially skittish and shy, but warms quickly. As such, she would be a flight risk, so would recommend double-leashing her and having a secure, fenced yard. She loves to run back inside for a treat; is well crate-trained....Although she enjoys sleeping with someone, more recently, she has slept in her crate.....is very food and treat motivated. Is an even prettier dog in person, who deserves a lot of love... NO YOUNG CHILDREN. FENCED YARD REQUIRED; VET'S REFERENCE REQUIRED.June 4, 2023, 1:03 am

Charlie Girl is a 3-year-old Beagle mix.  When she came to Ruff Love, she had a severe eye infection that led to ulcers that could not be remedied, so she lost that eye, but that doesn't slow her down any. She is incredibly sweet.  She's good with everyone - people, children, dogs and cats.  She loves having a buddy, so she would be great in a home with other pets. She would be ok as an only pet if her person gave her LOTS of attention.  Otherwise, another animal companion would be needed. ~~ Adoption donation $200 . All vetting is up to date. We adopted Ellie as a puppy from Pender County Humane Society about 5 years ago. She is so sweet and smart! She is clicker trained (vibrate not shocks), she can sit, shake, and stay. She is also partially leash trained (needs reinforcement). She loves pizza and tennis balls. We are looking for a home with either only cats or no pets, children over the age of 10, or no children in the home. She loves to run around and play or go for a walk, so a backyard would be preferrable or at least multiple walks a day if an apartment setting. She has lived in both an apartment (when she was a puppy) and a house. We just want her to be loved and in an environment where she can live her best life.
