Story
Foster Location: New Jersey Thunder was found as a stray during a thunderstorm (hence the name) and got a second chance when he was adopted from a local shelter. Unfortunately, his nose- and instincts- have gotten him into trouble. Thunder discovered that chickens are delicious and very exciting to chase, and his current home couldn't keep him because of it. He's friendly with people, does well with other dogs, and has been around kids from toddler age up through pre-teen. Cats, birds, and poultry are an absolute no unless it's for lunch. Thunder is smart, playful, and loves a ball and chew toys. He's right around a year old and has been doing so great in foster. He's gone from being a primarily outdoor dog to a guy who loves to be inside taking a nap on your bed, your couch, your lap, or wherever happen to be. His foster told us last week that he's the best dog they have ever fostered and they have been fostering since 1989! Thunder is currently in foster in Green Brook, NJ and is adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Story
Grandpa Douglas is an 8 year old hound mix with a gray muzzle and a smile he can't seem to turn off. Don't let the "Grandpa" fool you- he's bright, happy, and full of life. He loves car rides with his head out the window, a good long sniff through tall grass, and butt scratches above all else. He's very vocal about his gratitude and will happily tell you how he's feeling. He came off a euthanasia list at a rural Oklahoma shelter, where the staff fought hard to get this good old man placed before his time ran out. He made fast friends everywhere he went on his first day of freedom, including the crew at a Sonic drive-thru who sent him off with a bacon topped pup cup. Douglas is good with cats and other dogs, friendly with strangers, and great with teens (he hasn't been tested with younger kids). He's crate trained and rides like a champ. This sugar faced senior has waited long enough for his happy ending. He's currently heartworm positive and in foster in Tulsa, OK. Once he's cleared of heartworms, he will be adoptable anywhere in the country. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application

Hi, I'm Uno! I may not be the first one to run up and introduce myself, but give me a little time and you'll discover what a sweet guy I really am. New people and unfamiliar situations can make me a bit nervous at first, so I appreciate patience and understanding while I get comfortable. One thing that helps me feel confident is having other dogs around! I absolutely love having friends and would be thrilled to have a dog buddy to show me the ropes. Whether we're playing, exploring, or just hanging out together, I feel happiest with friends by my side. Story
Hi, I’m Dakota! I was recently rescued from animal testing and I am ready to start my new life. I’m easy going and very sweet. I love staying busy and learning new things—especially if snacks are involved! I love everyone I meet but I especially love people, I love being held for snuggles, sometimes I want to get cuddles more than walks - but once I get walking I remember just how much fun it is! I’ve got a lot of love to give and I’m excited for what’s next. 📍 My Location: PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ Please note: Third-party sites like PetFinder or Adopt-a-Pet may sometimes list multiple locations for the same animal. Story
Hello there! I'm Newton! Aren't I just the most adorable and handsome beagle boy that you've ever seen?? I'm a sweet, super affectionate, and silly pup who's looking for a furever home! If you're looking for a snuggly, loyal, and friendly companion who's sure to make you laugh every day-- I'm your guy! I love to cuddle, play, explore, and spend every moment I can with the people that I love. I adore every person that I meet and even get along with cats, too! Sometimes, I get a little anxious and scared, just because my life used to be pretty ruff... I was rescued from a severe case of animal cruelty. But, despite my past, I wake up every day ready to spread love and make new friends! I hope that one day someone notices me and decides to make me a part of their family... I really am the most darling and special boy. Everyone always tells me that finding an adopter will help me believe that I'm finally safe, and that no one will ever hurt me again. Could you give me the loving home that I've always dreamed of? In return, I promise to make you the happiest and most loved pawrent on earth! 📍 My Location: NOWATA, OKLAHOMA Please note: Third-party sites like PetFinder or Adopt-a-Pet may sometimes list multiple locations for the same animal. Story
Newly Rescued, Currently in Foster. This girl was just pulled from the shelter and is now settling into a foster home while we get to know her. New places take some adjusting to, so we're going slow- letting her decompress, feel safe, and show us who she really is on their own timeline. We'll share more as we learn more. For now, she's safe, she's resting, and that's exactly where she needs to be.

Story
Beans grew up in a hoarding situation- one of 15 dogs living in overwhelming conditions with no consistent care. She had an unknown number of litters before coming into rescue, and after a lifetime of that, she's still sweet, silly, and eager for connection. Her nails had grown long enough to change how she walks and she's dealing with bald spots, fleas, and heartworm from her time there, but the rescue is covering her vetting and none of it seems to have touched her spirit. Beans is affectionate to the point of demanding it- she wants attention, all of it, all the time, and she'll ask for it clearly and often. She gets along easily with other dogs and doesn't seem to hold onto the hardship of where she came from. She's low to the ground in that classic basset way, and about as food-focused as you'd expect from the breed. Beans would do best in a home that has time for her- someone who wants a dog underfoot, leaning on a leg, or asking for a scratch mid-task. Another dog in the home would suit her well given how easily she gets along with others. She's looking for more than a quiet corner to recover in. She's looking for people. helplesshounds.com/adoption-application
