Thankfully, rescuers stepped in and brought me to safety, giving me a second chance to experience kindness, comfort, and a fresh start. Now, I’m leaving that lonely chapter behind and looking forward to a brighter future with a loving forever family to call my own.   MY HEALTH All vaccinations up-to-date Spayed & healthy with no known health issues   MY PERSONALITY Hi, I’m Palkong! I’m a sweet, gentle dog with a beautiful golden-beige coat and a slightly shy personality. I may be a little reserved, but underneath that cautious exterior is a lovely companion who genuinely enjoys human attention once I feel comfortable. I’m not the type to rush into every new situation with confidence, but give me a little time, and you’ll discover that I have a very soft and affectionate side. When I first meet someone, I may approach carefully while I figure out whether I can trust them. Even when I’m feeling uncertain, though, I’m willing to come closer and accept treats, which makes getting to know me a little easier. As I become more familiar with someone, I relax and begin to genuinely enjoy gentle affection. Although I may seem timid initially, I’m not a dog who wants to avoid people altogether. I’m curious enough to approach, happy to accept something tasty, and capable of building trust through gentle, positive interactions. What helps me most is having the freedom to move at my own pace, especially when everything around me is unfamiliar. I may take a little longer to show my personality, but I hope my future family will appreciate the quiet sweetness behind my shyness. With patience, stability, and someone I can lean on, I have every opportunity to become a more confident and comfortable companion.   MY SOCIAL SKILLS · With People: I can be a little shy when I first meet someone, but treats are a great way to win me over! I’m happy to accept a tasty snack, and it usually doesn’t take long before I warm up and feel comfortable being petted. I’m also comfortable being gently picked up with an arm supporting me under my belly. I haven’t had experience with children under 13 yet, so my comfort level with younger kids is still unknown. · With Dogs: I’m comfortable approaching unfamiliar dogs to say hello, but I generally prefer a friendly greeting rather than engaging in play. I tend to rely on other dogs for reassurance and feel more secure and confident when I have a dog companion nearby. In fact, I become noticeably brighter and more relaxed when I’m with my current roommate, Sakong! Having another dog in my future home may help me feel more settled and give me extra confidence as I adjust to my new surroundings. · With Cats: My reaction to cats is unknown   ENERGY LEVEL & ACTIVITY I have a moderate energy level – I enjoy spending time outdoors, but I’m also happy to settle down and relax afterward. I have plenty of walking experience and good leash manners, following my person well without pulling. I especially love taking my time to sniff and explore, so my walks often involve plenty of little stops to investigate all the interesting smells along the way.   TRAINING & HABITS I don’t guard my food around people or other dogs I rarely bark I’m calm and settled when I’m in a kennel I’m accustomed to doing my business outdoors, so I generally prefer outdoor potty breaks.   MY IDEAL HOME I’m searching for a patient, loving family who can help me become the best version of myself. I’ll thrive in a home with: A family that will provide me with a safe haven – where I can relax, feel secure, and be myself in a stable environment A family that understands my past and is patient with me throughout A family that enjoys indoor and outdoor time together A family that will love and cherish me forever   SPECIAL NOTES Changes in my environment can affect my appetite. When I move into an unfamiliar space, I may not eat very well at first. I’ll need a quiet, comfortable place to enjoy my meals without pressure, along with a consistent feeding routine while I settle in. My future family should be patient with this adjustment and keep an eye on my eating habits. But once I realize everything is okay, my hesitation quickly fades, and I’ll start approaching you on my own to ask for attention. There’s also a very easy way to speed up our friendship: treats! I absolutely love something tasty, and offering me a few snacks is a wonderful way to break the ice. Once we’re friends, I become incredibly affectionate. I’ll actively seek you out for pets and enjoy the attention I was a little too shy to ask for earlier. My rescuers say the difference between my first few minutes and my personality once I’m comfortable is especially endearing. And then there’s my smile! I have one of those beautiful, happy expressions that can instantly brighten someone’s day. Seeing that smile appear as I begin to relax makes getting to know me even more rewarding. I’d love a family who understands that a little initial shyness doesn’t mean I’m not interested in making friends. I simply appreciate being given a moment to settle in before showing my affectionate side. Born into an overcrowded shelter housing more than 1,600 dogs, he spent the first four years of his life waiting for a chance at something better. With so many dogs needing care, he was sadly overlooked—not because of who he was, but because there simply weren't enough resources or attention for every dog. Everything changed in early 2024 when one of our directors met Youngsil during a visit to the shelter. Knowing he deserved a brighter future, she brought him to Canada, where he has been thriving with a loving foster family ever since. Meet Youngsil – Our Brave Boy 💛 Youngsil is smart, brave, loyal, affectionate, and incredibly intelligent. He's one of the brightest dogs Eight Paws has ever rescued—which makes it all the more surprising that he is still waiting for his forever home. Over the past two years, Youngsil has made remarkable progress. He has learned to trust, enjoys life with his foster family, and has shown just how loving and devoted he can be once he feels safe. Why is Youngsil still waiting? The truth is, Youngsil has received very few adoption applications. We're not entirely sure why. Everyone who meets him in person comments on how much more handsome and charming he is than his photos suggest. We also believe in being completely honest about the challenges that come with adopting a rescue dog. Youngsil can become extremely anxious during major life changes or unfamiliar situations. In those moments, he may have an anxiety-related poop accident. Once he settles into a consistent routine and builds trust with his family, this has not been an ongoing issue in his foster home. Youngsil also has a bite history. The incident (only once) occurred when he was feeling very scared and overwhelmed before trust had been established. You have to give him space when he doesn’t feel safe. All dogs bite when they’re cornered and fearful. Because of his intelligence and sensitivity, Youngsil needs an experienced adopter—ideally someone who has worked with rescue dogs or anxious dogs before. He isn't the type of dog who will trust a stranger overnight. But once you earn his trust, he forms an incredibly deep bond and is affectionate, loyal, and eager to be by your side. To help make his transition into a new home as smooth as possible, Youngsil will go home with a six-month supply of anti-anxiety medication. He is not currently taking anxiety medication in his foster home, but we want his adopter to have this support available during the adjustment period to help reduce stress and set him up for success. Youngsil has already overcome so much in his life. Now he's simply looking for someone who will give him the time and patience to feel safe. In return, you'll gain a devoted companion whose love and loyalty are truly unforgettable. We know the right person is out there. We hope they'll see beyond his past and recognize the incredible dog waiting for his forever home.
