Bria is a sweet 7-year-old, 41-pound Beagle mix who is finally getting the chance to enjoy life after spending years being overbred. Since coming into rescue, she has received the veterinary care she desperately needed. She has been spayed, had a much-needed dental, been treated for ear infections and a urinary tract infection, and had a mammary mass removed. Thankfully, the mass was benign. Now feeling better than ever, Bria is ready to leave her past behind and find the loving family she deserves. When Bria first arrived in foster care, she was extremely nervous and unsure of her surroundings. She has come a long way since then and continues to gain confidence every day. She can still be startled by sudden movements or loud noises and may retreat to a quiet spot until she feels comfortable again. Having a routine and the company of calm, confident dogs has helped her tremendously. She often looks to her foster dog siblings for reassurance. As a true hound, Bria loves following her nose. Whether she is in the yard or out on a walk, she is always investigating scents. Because of this, she will need a securely fenced yard and a family that understands her instincts. If something smells interesting enough, her nose will win every time. Bria would love a family where her people are hound lovers and know that hounds will follow their nose every time so have to be kept secure. Bria enjoys her daily walks and walks nicely on a leash. She loves taking her time to explore the world around her. She is especially interested in squirrels and rabbits, so her family will need to keep a firm hold on her leash when wildlife is nearby. She also travels very well in the car and settles quietly without a crate. Whether it is a quick trip or a longer drive, she is happy to come along. Although Bria is not fond of being crated, she will reluctantly go into her crate at mealtime, where she eats her meals and spends some time. It is best not to put blankets, towels, mats, or toys in her crate with her, as she will always shred them. Bria has made it clear that she prefers not to be in a crate, and she becomes stressed when confined, often drooling while crated. Over time, after learning the house rules, Bria has proven that she does not need to be crated and she can be trusted when left out of it. She will need to be crated in her new home initially tho until she feels secure and can be trusted. Bria is looking for a home where someone is home most of the time, so she only needs to be crated for short stints. She will need a detached home as she can bark when left in her crate as well. She is quiet as can be though when her people are home with her. One of the nicest things about Bria is how well she settles into a household routine. She is happy to find a comfortable place such as a dog bed or the corner of a couch to nap and watch what is going on around her. In the evenings, she puts herself to bed on a blanket on the couch in her foster's bedroom and sleeps quietly through the night. Bria is fully house-trained and clearly lets her family know when she needs to go outside. Once she understands what is expected of her, she is an easy dog to live with. As she has become more comfortable, Bria's playful side has started to emerge. She enjoys interacting with her foster dog siblings and can be quite entertaining. Beneath her shy exterior is a gentle, affectionate dog who simply needs time to trust. Bria currently lives with a dog-savvy foster cat and does very well. She is respectful and shows no inappropriate interest in the cat, so we think she could live successfully with a cat that is comfortable around dogs. Why is Youngsil still waiting? The truth is, Youngsil has received very few adoption applications. We're not entirely sure why. Everyone who meets him in person comments on how much more handsome and charming he is than his photos suggest. We also believe in being completely honest about the challenges that come with adopting a rescue dog. Youngsil can become extremely anxious during major life changes or unfamiliar situations. In those moments, he may have an anxiety-related poop accident. Once he settles into a consistent routine and builds trust with his family, this has not been an ongoing issue in his foster home. Youngsil also has a bite history. The incident (only once) occurred when he was feeling very scared and overwhelmed before trust had been established. You have to give him space when he doesn’t feel safe. All dogs bite when they’re cornered and fearful. Because of his intelligence and sensitivity, Youngsil needs an experienced adopter—ideally someone who has worked with rescue dogs or anxious dogs before. He isn't the type of dog who will trust a stranger overnight. But once you earn his trust, he forms an incredibly deep bond and is affectionate, loyal, and eager to be by your side. To help make his transition into a new home as smooth as possible, Youngsil will go home with a six-month supply of anti-anxiety medication. He is not currently taking anxiety medication in his foster home, but we want his adopter to have this support available during the adjustment period to help reduce stress and set him up for success. Lorelei actively seeks out affection, and would rather be snuggled up to you than just in the same room (which would be a wasted cuddle opportunity). This is important because with her gorgeous multicoloured coat and incredible ears, she attracts attention and admiration wherever she goes! She's also settling in well with the other dogs in her foster home: she loves to play. She'd do well as a second dog, but would also be happy to be the only dog in the house.
